Technical muse available for consult.

I was instrumental in pushing esports out of South Korea into the global zeitgeist, I guess.

I find enjoyment in learning and making new connections, be they concepts or people.

Your mirror doesn't seem to work either
Lorin··on ClipX (Windows clipboard manager) updated after 18 years
No idea, email him and ask? I don't develop desktop apps but I'm assuming it's because the original installer didn't.
Lorin··on ClipX (Windows clipboard manager) updated after 18 years
ClipX has plugins that give you way more features. As a web developer I used the color picker plugin to copy the hex code of the pixel beneath my mouse to the clipboard when a hotkey is pressed, although it could be configured in many other ways.
Lorin··on ClipX (Windows clipboard manager) updated after 18 years
I've used ClipX since its inception in 2004, and was shocked to learn it was recently updated by the original author for a major 2.0 revision... 18 years later! The FAQ also states that he never sold it, so it remains 100% crapware free.

I used to joke that it took Microsoft until Win 11 to create their own clipboard manager, and even then it didn't hold a candle to the 18 year old ClipX 1.0

Lorin··on Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub
As someone who used to submit issues to Gitlab just to see them stagnate for 6-8 years and then ceremonially get closed after being stuck in management/release bump hell (along with many 'me toos' from both Gitlab premium support staff / 3rd party contributors) I agree with your statement 100%.

If we could restore the snapshot from around the year 2000 that'd be great, would like to make some changes.
Lorin··on Ten Basic Clouds
Ironically the site is now giving a "The website encountered an unexpected error. Try again later." Do I blame the cloud?
Lorin··on Valve raises Steam Deck prices
That's assuming ASML and co would even supply the required tech should that happen.
Lorin··on Ask.com has closed
Would have been a great domain with the rise of AI, shocking they didn't adapt the persona.
Lorin··on Copy Fail
What is the rationale behind naming CVEs and individual domains? Marketing?
Lorin··on Rare concert recordings are landing on the Internet Archive
I desperately miss PureDJ online radio, pretty much exclusively streamed EDM DJ sets. Would do anything to see the archive restored in some fashion.
Lorin··on The gold standard of optimization: A look under the hood of RollerCoaster Tycoon
If you worked on Lost Vikings I'd like to thank you for the entertainment during my childhood. Given your background did you ever get involved in the demo scene?
Lorin··on The EU moves to kill infinite scrolling
As long as this doesn't create yet another cookie popup UX nonsense we've ended up with...
Lorin··on Show HN: New 3D Mapping website - Create heli orbits and "playable" map tours.
Consider a slower default rotation speed, esp. on your front page backdrop as you must be considerate of users with movement based nausea. Further consider generating a looping video for the backdrop on the hope page since it's a non-interactive element and could be optimized.
Lorin··on JSDoc is TypeScript
The argument is that it doesn't surface the default written within the jsdoc block comment even when provided by the developer.
Lorin··on JSDoc is TypeScript
Not when the TS team refuses to fix long standing issues preventing JSDOC from operating properly in VSC, for example https://github.com/microsoft/TypeScript/issues/16665
Lorin··on We Need to Die
Anyone else see the irony of someone named Grey being pro immortality?
Lorin··on 30 Year Anniversary of WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness
StarCraft 2 tournaments broadcasts being watched in public venues pushed esports into the zeitgeist.
Lorin··on Migrating from AWS to Hetzner
I'd like to thank everyone moving their hosting away from shared hosts to VPS.

Been on the same shared hosting platform for 15+ years and the hardware's load average dropped to ~16% on a 64-core Epyc /w 512gb RAM. Easily handles half million unique bursts without breaking a sweat.

I still miss my KeyOne keyboard.
Lorin··on Liquid Glass in the Browser: Refraction with CSS and SVG
What is causing the ghosting/delay when moving the glass over text?
Lorin··on Meta announces Oakley smart glasses
At that point we might as well skip the glasses entirely and have it output directly to the visual/audio cortex (with shut offs, of course)
Lorin··on Show HN: Immersive Gaussian Splat experience of Sutro Tower, San Francisco
Sadly the controls are not mobile friendly and I ended up spinning wildly.
Lorin··on Frosted glass from games to the web
Agreed, on mobile I can hardly tell the difference after the second step, if at all.
Lorin··on Frosted glass from games to the web
I took it one step further even earlier using a Flash file as a backdrop which was able to achieve the glass effect while still being in a dynamic moveable frame. Can't recall if it used iframes, would need to dig up the code but considering the era it probably did.
Lorin··on NextTrace: An open source visual route tracking CLI tool
Site not loading at all, `https://www.nxtrace.org/static/js/main.4678cf79.js net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS` in DevTools console.
Lorin··on Using an 8K TV as a Monitor
I use a combination of Aquasnap's magnetic border feature with MS Power Toys hotkeys and it has been a treat. Still room for improvement tho', esp. if I can force specific browser tabs into particular windows based on purpose.

The linked blog post seems to have been deleted
Lorin··on WebP: The WebPage Compression Format
That's an interesting concept, although it would generate a ton of bogomips since each client has to generate the image themselves instead of one time on the server.

You'd also want "seed" and "engine" attributes to ensure all visitors see the same result.

Lorin··on CSS-only infinite scrolling carousel animation
I did this back in 2018 with full mobile support and nice edge fading: https://codepen.io/Lorin/pen/OEJGrM
