I can't lift a car, unless I use a jack. Mathematicians use theorem provers. Software developers use IDEs. Programmers would be pretty screwed if their keyboards had a 0 and a 1 on them and nothing else. Tools evolve.

My gut tells me that we would be fine with that. LLMs are viewed differently by many people, and I can't decide whether people are so naturally opposed to these discoveries because the LLMs were manufactured by us (and should therefore be in someway inferior), or because the LLMs lack a 'soul'. It's a very interesting question to ponder.

I think it was on the Astra launch site, they had a car racing game authored by codex. I played it once and was quite impressed. I played it a second time and realised that I could just hold down the accelerator, not bother steering at all, and beat all the AI opponents every time. The game was pretty but pointless.

No, there are a tonne of Apple users that aren't developers, that will probably love this. They'll currently be using paid subscriptions to OpenAI, but only via the web app, and will happily switch to using Apple Intelligence.

1. Use a soldering iron that can hit 400, and use a needle tip

2. Use leaded solder - lead-free is a pain. If you're not doing this for hours every day, even without ventilation, you'll be fine.

3. Heat the pads you're soldering to, not the solder. I used to tell kids to hold the iron to the pad for a count of three, then feed the solder in.

4. Two additional tools I find helpful - a solder sucker and copper wick.

Not exactly in the the same class as PCBs, but I've had a lot of success with Codex and Claude producing Fritzing diagrams. I've even got a skill set up with Claude so that it follows my preferences with breadboard wiring, using bezier curves to avoid wires crossing. Also, if it can't find a component in the library, it's quite happy drawing svgs of its own.

However, we have numerous comedic parties that will run in elections in the UK. Count Binface will challenge Farage. Farage won with something like 46% of the vote last time. With the negative coverage he's been receiving, and the option of sticking it to reform by voting for Count Binface, the people of Clacton might end up delivering a very embarrassing defeat for Farage. This is the country that voted to name a research vessel Boaty McBoatFace.

I seem to recall I had a windows phone at the time, with a full keyboard. I could use OS maps on the thing, and although it didn't have GPS, it could get my rough location by tower.

I recently supervised a Hackclub Counterspell event at our office. I was there only in the capacity of being an adult in the room, for health and safety and safeguarding reasons.

The entire event had been organised by a single teenager, with mini workshops, hack time and a global show and tell.

Kids that attended were not only coders, but musicians and artists as well.

The whole event was amazing, with more pizza than I thought it possible to eat.

The kids produced some genuinely interesting games, learned some new skills, and had a great time socially.

I fully intend to support more events in the future.

Anecdotally, as an educator, I am already seeing a digital divide occurring, with regard to accessing AI. This is not even at a premium/pro subscription level, but simply at a 'who has access to a device at home or work' level, and who is keeping up with the emerging tech.

I speak to kids that use LLMs all the time to assist them with their school work, and others who simply have no knowledge that this tech exists.

And it disproportionately hit the poorest in society the most. My kid had his own room to work in, his own computer to work on, and WFH parents to help him out. He was not, massively, negatively impacted.

In my work, I was in touch with families with multiple children at home, no computers, maybe one or two phones, and no broadband connection. The kids, for all intents and purposes, just lost two years of education.

I'm thinking of going back into teaching because of ChatGPT.

I created an entire scheme of work for my wife today, including all the lesson plans, and next I'll work on some student resources and quizzes. It took about thirty minutes. She'll need to check them over to make sure they're okay, but still a massive time saver.

I've taken photos of my son's revision activities and had ChatGPT mark them. It's surprisingly accurate given his awful handwriting.

Report writing becomes a thing of the past, as I can upload a CSV of grades along with a sentence or two of description, and have it generate unique reports for each student.

This would all allow me to do what I used to love. I can just spend my time with students in the classroom, engaging them, teaching them, discussing with them. I won't be bringing home mounds of paperwork, that eats into my evenings and weekends. I'll go into work each day feeling fresh and ready to actually educate kids.

It's still a little buggy in places, but nothing that can't be overcome.

You can drag and drop in 3D assets and many of them come with built in and easily changeable behaviors. Then there is a node based programming language that you can use to make alterations.

It's web based, but also has iOS and Android apps available for editing and playing the games.

I didn't think lead, in it's metallic form, had a particularly high toxicity. I thought it was lead salts that were the problem.

When I lived in PNG, fruit bats were fairly common. You could see them roosting in trees all over the place, and they are huge. They're harmless though, and a great source of protein, if you're any good with a slingshot.

Like me, you seem to like to drive your computer with the keyboard and use the mouse when necessary.

I use the Windows key to open applications on Windows, Cmd+Space on MacOS, and Mod+d on my i3 nixOS machine.

Some people like their mouse/trackpad though, and this seems like a useful tool for those that do.

I was walking to my classroom last Thursday, and a kid pushed another kid down the stairs, right into me. I went ballistic, and sorted it all out, but there is no way an online AI tutor can deal with that kind of behavior. So if you want social education, you need physically present teachers. If you want online education, then parents are going to have their work cut out.
