MathCodeLove··on San Francisco cops pull over a Cruise driverless car for no lights on
As for point 2.

Okay, but now cars do exist. Do you think it's reasonable for cars capable of traveling 40mph should be stuck behind pedestrians at walking speed? Our modern transportation infrastructure exists for a reason, and that reason is speed/effeciency. Most areas with heavy pedestrian traffic have sidewalks. If I'm going 60mph down the highway then the presumption that I should be subjected to pedestrians casually strolling across is absurd.

Remove "most of the time". This narrative that police are boogeymen who will subject you to their emotional whims is so overplayed its not even funny any more. There may be 1 in 100 truly awful police men and women out there, just as their are truly awful people in every known profession. People share a viral, highly edited video on tiktok to make themselves look like the victim only for the entire world to pile on and go "wow yep police bad".

There's a lot that could be improved in our judicial system, but you're not going to identify the areas that need improvement by sharing anecdotes of "Well this one time in Arkansas..."

You say "advertising campaign" as if it were some conspiracy by the world's big auto manufacturers

1. Do you have any sources?

2. You don't think that roads should be a car only domain? What do you think roads are for?

MathCodeLove··on I hate Spring (2014)
I mean you do realize that many complex web apps use multiple frameworks for different things, right? Personally I don't like Java and haven't used spring, but take a modern web app and you could be using something like express/fastify, react + next, an ORM, a schema validator, and quite a bit of other domain specific pieces of functionality.

Ofc these aren't all "frameworks" in the traditional sense, but that line is often arbitrary and I think this interpretation of OP's usage of the word is the most generous one.

MathCodeLove··on TypeScript as fast as Rust: TypeScript++
Those things are very important for getting a product off the ground. You may have a jaded view from fixing what someone else wrote, but there's a non-trivial chance that in many of those instances no such app would exist to fix had it not been for the ability to rapidly develop and launch said app.

You also speak as if speed of development/expressivity are in direct opposition of maintainability and structure, which just isn't true.

MathCodeLove··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Mine is the smallest one and I love it.
MathCodeLove··on Amazon worker chat app to ban words such as “union”, “pay raise”, “slave labor”
Why would they search specifically for "cancel culture"? It seems pretty obvious that the individual didn't search but instead took the time to try and find anything they could to make OP look bad.

I can say the same about the M1 Mac Mini and its much cheaper
MathCodeLove··on Lifetime Annotations for C++
There's too much Flash content on the web we'll never deprecate it
MathCodeLove··on The human genome is, at long last, complete
I don't think the content which addresses the title is OP's point, just the fact that there have been numerous publications with this title or something similar.
MathCodeLove··on Block a tweet, its author, and every single person who liked it
The actual analogous action would be to keep scrolling. This does nothing to show disgust as no one else knows that you blocked them.

MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
Definitely not discounting conservative areas, just most conservative areas also happen to be far too warm for my tastes
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
Neat! Please do let me know if you stumble across it.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
No disrespect taken, thanks for your comment. I hadn't really even considered the area prior to the above commenters suggestion. I suppose it's certainly possible that my subconscious guided me to the self-selection, but it wasn't intentional.

Looking in Tacoma I'm seeing quite a few 1 bedroom apartments for <$1.5k a month which seems decent to me, and I imagine Tacoma is more expensive than some of the smaller surrounding towns. This doesn't line up with your comment so my question is, what am I missing?

MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
Interesting. I'm assuming Olympia is the typical rainy weather associated with the region, what's weather like in Spokane?
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
I'm not too picky on lifestyle, wherever I end up I'll likely spend most of my time indoors. My perfect location would be a large town/small city but again, not too concerned either way.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
I get where you're coming from and I appreciate the input, but I disagree.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like an okay place, I'll add it to my list.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
I'll take a look in the area, thanks.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: I'm in a position to move to anywhere in the USA, where should I go?
Thanks for the input. I do have to move. The absolute latest I have is until June 15th, though I was really hoping to move sometime in late April/early May.
MathCodeLove··on Microservices: Why Are We Doing This?
They didn't say it causes the complexity, just that React hides a lot of complexity away. React is very simple and easy to use on it's surface, but it an incredibly complex collection of software under the hood.
MathCodeLove··on Microservices: Why Are We Doing This?
For reasons the above commenter has already mentioned.

Most founder either want to run a profitable business or make their way to a big exit. Company valued at 10b? Great, sell or IPO. If the founder really realized that there was no profit ever to be made and genuinely didnt believe in the future of the company then the best move for their own self-interest would be to sell and gtfo.

Not only if your premise impractical, but it's inherently illogical for your antagonist to act as you imagine.

MathCodeLove··on CSS's !important was added because of laws about font size for some text
The point of the post isn't that all problems should be given equal credence, but that all problems should be at least acknowledged. Im the end would you rather a Jr. dev who's been working on the project for 6 months be the one who decided whether the problem is important enough to be solved or the Sr/project lead?

Thank you!
MathCodeLove··on Dry/Irritated Eyes?
Good call on the humidifier, I'll buy one today. I wasn't aware e-ink displays even existed outside of the classic kindle haha. I'll check them out but if they are as expensive as you say may only buy one as a last resort.

Thanks!

MathCodeLove··on Dry/Irritated Eyes?
Based on a cursory reading of the links you provided I don't believe so, but I'll still be sure to mention if to my optometrist just in case, thanks for making me aware of the condition.

Same. Hybrid is absolutely my ideal, the office can be nice in moderation, but if it had to be one or the other then my preference is WFH

YouTube also has plenty of videos of plane crashes, that doesn't mean that passenger aircraft are inherently unsafe, but that there are always risks associated with transportation and given extraordinary enough circumstances those risks will be revealed.
MathCodeLove··on Ask HN: Advocates of socialized production, why and how?
I enjoy solving problems on a computer, I don't enjoy working in a hot, greasy, rushed environment. Some jobs can be objectively ranked and pretending otherwise is ridiculous.
