I love kagi, I use it myself, but this won't be ''the next google'' for the simple reason that kagi isn't a free service.

Mondialisation··on 'Children of Men' is happening
How are we not a cancer on the planet, though? We are literally responsible for the 6th largest mass extinction in history, based on greed for fossil fuels, animal products & rearing unnecessary children who serve the Need Machine (life/DNA) needlessly, and this is with all the knowledge and technology we have, in fact the more we had and the more we destroyed to get here.

We are like addicts to the drug of life, too scared of admiting we have to stop spawning other addicts as a mean to an unreachable end. We do not accomplish anything by "creating a need and satisfying it". We do not accomplish anything by creating every problem and solving some of them (or even all of them).

Mondialisation··on Researchers train an algorithm to interpret pig grunts as emotions
> "The next step could be a pig translation app for farmers."

Or just not exploit and slaughter sentient individuals for (taste) pleasure.

Mondialisation··on Researchers train an algorithm to interpret pig grunts as emotions
Ethically killing someone for (taste) pleasure sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Mondialisation··on Four-year-old Israeli child tests positive for polio, first case since 1989
What most of us consider progress is based on how we manage to spread efficiently as a species, gathering more power and possessions, developing ways to push our inevitable death further away, no matter the cost. Exploit more ressources, other humans, other animals.

And while some of us aren't driven by these things, some always will, and will essentially always capitalize on it. They can take the form of corporations, religious groups, governments... They really are any organised groups. And to make things worse, power is addictive.

It doesn't seem to matter how smart we are, if we zoom out, we're as good as a self destructing virus eating up on its ressources as if it had an infinite supply of it. Following a path driven by greed. Making us a virus that's only smarter at how it gets to the outcome, not at changing the outcome itself.

Here is a cohort study of 521,120 participants recruited between 1995 and 1996 and prospectively followed up until the end of 2011:

''intakes of eggs and cholesterol were associated with higher all-cause, CVD, and cancer mortality. The increased mortality associated with egg consumption was largely influenced by cholesterol intake. Our findings suggest limiting cholesterol intake and replacing whole eggs with egg whites/substitutes or other alternative protein sources for facilitating cardiovascular health and long-term survival.''

Mondialisation··on Ask HN: What are some good keyboards?
Short answer:

If you wanna play games, consider a mechanical keyboard, else consider a flat laptop-like keyboard.

Long answer:

I used to believe that mechanical keyboards have to be better because most people praise them and they are more expensive, but it really is a matter of preference and use case. I bought myself a corsair mechanical keyboard and I really didn't like it besides for playing specific games. A laptop keyboard always felt the best to me. They are flat, so your wrist is always in a correct position while with mechanical keyboards i'd find myself having to bend my wrist backwards despite having a small pad. They are extremely responsive, you get instant feedback from the keys, and I mean instant because it takes less effort and distance to trigger each key. As a result they also make typing faster in my experience. So unless you're in for gaming or have a good pad, i'd say you really don't need it.

Mondialisation··on Meat-eating extends human life expectancy worldwide
I believe this is what you are looking for : https://adventisthealthstudy.org/studies/AHS-2

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4144107/#:~:tex....

Seventh-Day Adventists have a lower cancer risk and a longer life expectancy than the general US population. In the ''Adventist Health Study 2" they compared meat-eating adventists to vegetarian and vegan adventists from 2001 and 2007. In total they enrolled 96,000 Adventists of age 30 to 112, from all 50 U.S. states and Canada, making this the largest study on the topic (to my knowledge).

Mondialisation··on Meat-eating extends human life expectancy worldwide
Have you read the ''Adventist Health Study 2" ?

It's the largest study on the subject to my knowledge and concludes an increased longevity for meat-free eating, as well as for fully plant based diets (vegans).

This is the main reason why I don't see any reason to consume animal products when we know full well that it necessitates the exploitation and slaughter of sentient individuals.

Mondialisation··on Meat-eating extends human life expectancy worldwide
Look at ''The Adventist Study 2", which to my knowledge is the largest study ever conducted on the subject which includes not only the vegetarian diet but also the fully plant based diet. https://adventisthealthstudy.org/studies/AHS-2

"From 2001 and 2007, we enrolled as participants 96,000 Adventists, ages 30 to 112, from all 50 U.S. states and Canada."

"Vegetarian diets in AHS-2 are associated with lower BMI values, lower prevalence of hypertension, lower prevalence of the metabolic syndrome, lower prevalence and incidence of diabetes mellitus, and lower all-cause mortality."

"Cox proportional hazards regression analysis (adjusting for age, race, sex, smoking, exercise, education, marital status, alcohol, geographic region, menopause, and hormone therapy) showed reduced all-cause mortality for all vegetarians compared with nonvegetarians (HR: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.80, 0.97). For specific dietary patterns, the HRs were 0.85 (95% CI: 0.73, 1.01) for vegans, 0.91 (95% CI: 0.82, 1.00) for lactoovovegetarians, 0.81 (95% CI: 0.69, 0.94) for pescovegetarians, and 0.92 (95% CI: 0.75, 1.13) for semivegetarians."

Mondialisation··on Ask HN: How well do your front end and back end teams work together?
I'm a front-end dev and recently started working independently with back-end dev, we look for clients to work for. We're mostly doing MERN. One thing that ended up being the most helpful tool for us is postman because it includes the ability to make very easy-to-navigate API documentations allowing me to quickly jump between endpoints without having to spend too much time finding out what data it's expecting and returning. https://learning.postman.com/docs/publishing-your-api/docume...

Mondialisation··on Save your Phantom wallet details in 1Password
What about using a recurring pattern for your passwords by using an encryption from an information of your choice from the service you use, which you then tweak a little and add to a static base password.

That way only you know how to pull that information to generate your password, it's always unique, and even in the worst case scenario where multiple of your passwords get leaked, it'd still be extremely unlikely for someone to make any sense of it in order to figure out all of your unique passwords relying on that method.

You should use your imagination here but for an example of what that would look like, let's say you want a password for amazon.com

Step 1 - Hash ''amazon'' or any variation based on their name that you can reproduce for other services

You can use md2, md5, sha256, doesn't really matter what you chose, you could even create your own. Let's say we use sha256, you're given the following:

  cbc62794911ff31b2864ecd3dbbbee7ebcb7ea41c5a42e2cba377f3cfdb42811

Step 2 - Decide what your pattern will be

A simple example could be to pick whatever character is at index 3, 5, 12 and 16 once from the beginning of the hash and once from the end, which gives you 8 characters. Then you just make those your unique key for your amazon.com password, in our case:

  c2fb847b
All you have to remember is the hash you used and 4 letters, in this example. But as I mentioned, you could be imaginative.

Step 3 - Get a base password that ressembles whatever results you get from your hashing method

This will be the password you will have to remember, nothing new here. Example in our case:

  m188ct3q
Step 4 - Fusion both

Again you can implement this however you like based on how secure you want it to be relative to how likely you are to remember this and how time consuming it is to apply in practice, you'd be fine by simply joining them next to one another:

  c2fb847bm188ct3q
