Herdr is a fantastic product and I've experienced almost no bugs. Can't actually remember if I've come across one. For ease of use, nothing else comes close for running remote sessions, or local for that matter.

The ability to connect to remote systems inside a local tui sounds fine but it's already a terrific remote solution! Try it out if you haven't!

You have to do the journey as a parent. It's long. It's beyond intense. It's a million small victories. A thousand small tragedies. If you come out the other end with mutual admiration and love, the depth is beyond explanation.

Time with my young adult children. They are all out of the house, recently, and there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING more valuable/meaningful to us than when they come home for a visit or we spend time out in the world.

This means a great de-risking is happening for the costs of deploying somewhat autonomous agents. This has profound implications on the timeline of deployable personal agents. Cost was a significant factor for many people during the OpenClaw frenzy, specifically when they let their agents run somewhat wild. It will become much more palatable, or already has, to install whatever the next generation of token consuming autonomous systems will be.

Ahhhhh memories. As far as I remember this didn't really spread beyond the PC game developer world. Back in the day we built an automated finger puller (poller) to grab all the game developers .plans and post them on PlanetQuake, etc (depending on which game they were working on). At the time it was considered a core feature for hot game news! Certainly the twitter of its' time for direct from the horse's mouth news.

Did not get bought by OpenAI. Creator was hired by OpenAI and they sponsor the project with tokens. OpenClaw is a non-profit now.

The problem is really that the promise was so big but the management and implementation was so painful, coupled with non-stop updates, coupled with far too big of an implementation surface.

A classic "lets solve 15 problems at once" situation, but none of them really well.

Small companies doing consulting certainly could. My use of the term "software factory" really implies a lot of automation in turning out useful tools for internal and external customers.

YMMV but I think with the SOTA models building a token efficient engineering loop is absolutely doable with (imho) solid development and testing practices. I see no reason to buy a 3rd party system for this either. I'm not in enterprise so don't come at me here - I'm a small shop and I'm not trying to corral 100 devs or whatever. We've got linear boards getting cards pushed and pulled, debated over by multiple models, coded, debated, tested, accepted, etc etc. True software factories now exist and they don't screw up the login.

One area that I find really compelling and useful now is controlling hardware that I've struggled to use in the past, like the BlackMagic ATEM video switcher/controller. They are very powerful and can turn your space into an incredible video studio. The software that ships with them is probably appropriate for experienced video techs. The last time I setup a studio to run a webinar with one it took me a couple of days to get it working how I needed. Yes, I love tinkering with hardware so there is that and I did enjoy figuring it out. Today I had a webinar that needed to be setup quickly and thought it would just be a raw Zoom feed. Instead, within an hour, I had a full video switching system with embedded graphics, feeds from a laptop configured with live content, multiple cameras, etc and a custom html page specific just to todays webinar to drive it all. I've used a number of 3rd party apps for the ATEM series. They all have to boil the ocean. This kind of personalized project tech is the perfect software hole for llm's to fill.

I wasn't trying to go point to point - my point was that its enjoyable to play with. As is Hermes!

My simple take: Hermes is for the less technical and is more polished. OpenClaw is deeper with more capabilities.

OpenClaw has come so far since its' original launch/craze. I recommend taking a second look if you haven't touched it in a while. If for no other reason than it's just a really fun playground with a LOT of areas to experiment in. Setup a myriad of agents with various models, skills, cron jobs, etc. The control surfaces have come a long way as well.

Hermes is good fun, running that as well but feels like they focused on polish vs features in order to capitalize on the primitive state that OpenClaw was in for its first months.

People that got attracted to the hype of openclaw but couldn't endure the fast pace of breaking changes while they figured out the problem space were well served by going to Hermes.

It's still quite fun. The games industry figured out long ago that realism and fun are often diametrically opposed.

I get stuck when I try to post on social and my brain fills up with all the random people I know that have commented or complimented a post. The problem is there are wildly different expectations of what I post. Is anyone else dealing with this?

Lately I've decided to write for ME. What do I want to write about? That has made it a lot easier to get unstuck. That and not looking at the views, likes, etc.

fired it up via the $5 opencode go subscription and am stoked. This is an amazing amount of capability for pennies on the dollar. I'm using it alongside my codex and claude max subs. Just fantastic for coding that claude is architecting.

Great question. I've read that the agent sdk is ok as long as it's not for external use - meaning you aren't selling access to it. Unclear now though!

Big Giant Million Dollar Question: Where does having Openclaw using Claude Code via ACP fall? It's using the Claude Code harness, not the model directly.

If you are not aware, ACP creates a persistent session for steering rather than using the models directly.

Started using this earlier this week. I built a backtesting benchmark tool to compare a mix of frontier and open-source models on a fairly heavy data analysis workflow I’d been running in the cloud.

The task is basically predicting pricing and costs.

Apple’s model came out on top—best accuracy in 6 out of 10 cases in the backtest. That surprised me.

It also looks like it might be fast enough to take over the whole job. If I ran this on Sonnet, we’re talking thousands per month. With DeepSeek, it’s more like hundreds.

So far, the other local models I’ve tried on my 64GB M4 Max Studio haven’t been viable - either far too slow or not accurate enough. That said, I haven’t tested a huge range yet.

Weirdly though I'm getting things like this: Apple FM is fast and free but has a hard limitation — it can't process prompts with Spanish/non-English words, which is a dealbreaker for California and Southwest real estate where half the street names are Spanish.

My understanding is that the 512gb offering will likely return with the new M5 Ultra coming around WWDC in June. Fingers crossed anyway!

I've read this and the replies and I don't understand - but want to. I have 6 agents spun up under one openclaw. 4 of them use my claude code max sub. 2 use my codex sub. I am not needing to use any metered API calls. Why are you?

Sure, single-handedly is doing a lot of work here. :) Anecdotally a fair number of people I know have referenced his thoughts so I just ran with that. Most people seem to kind of equivocate about whatever model they like, Peter on the other hand is very strident about it.

He's been on a number of podcasts - lex recently, and is really emphatic about Codex as the breakthrough solution he relies on. I just looked and on the handful of podcasts there are about 2,000,000 views this past week and half or so.

Potentially amazing opportunity for OpenAI to more meaningfully compete with Claude Code at the developer and hobbyist level. Based on vibes it sure seemed like Claude Code / Opus 4.6 was running away with developer mindshare.

Peter single handedly got many of us taking Codex more seriously, at least that's my impression from the conversations I had. Openclaw has gotten more attention over the past 2 weeks than anything else I can think of.

Depending on how this goes, this could be to OpenAI what Instagram was to Facebook. FB bought Instagram for $1 billion and now estimated to be worth 100's of billies.

GM Supercruise on my 2024 Silverado RST is a joke compared to Tesla FSD. It's not even remotely comparable. Supercruise only works on freeways/highways, does not understand ANY navigation. It's a better cruise control, that's about it. I own 2 Tesla model S of different vintages and FSD is a completely different animal. My 2017 model s can navigate from my house to, well, anywhere, with no intervention. I have been very disappointed in how long it took Tesla to get here based on the promises they made 10(!) years ago, but they are there now. Even a year ago FSD used to scare me frequently and cause me to disengage but that never happens now.

The math here is mixing categories. The token calculation for a single 1-GW datacenter is fine, but then it gets compared to the entire industry’s projected $8T capex, which makes the conclusion meaningless. It’s like taking the annual revenue of one factory and using it to argue that an entire global build-out can’t be profitable. On top of that, the revenue estimate uses retail GPT-5.1 pricing, which is the absolute highest-priced model on the market, not what a hyperscaler actually charges for bulk workloads. IBM’s number refers to many datacenters built over many years, each with different models, utilization patterns, and economics. So this particular comparison doesn’t show that AI can’t be profitable—it’s just comparing one plant’s token output to everyone’s debt at once. The real challenges (throughput per watt, falling token prices, capital efficiency) are valid, but this napkin math isn’t proving what it claims to prove.
