Neonlicht··on Senators revive bill to restrict TSA facial recognition at airports
To be perfectly blunt I would rather deal with machines than the US border Gestapo. Anywhere else my Dutch passport and white skin gets me through in a blink.
Neonlicht··on Nothing Radicalizes You Against Dirty Diesels Like Riding a Motorcycle
As if motor cyclists are known for their decency.

As soon as the first nice weather comes on in spring they start driving around in their loud death machines swerving through traffic.

Neonlicht··on Rage of the Oligarchs Naomi Klein: 'What They Want Is Absolutely Everything
Its a lot easier to "bootstrap" yourself in a country with a functional government.

The ultra rich don't want to pay the taxes that keeps civilization running. People like Elon Musk would not be on top in a Mad Max world.

Neonlicht··on India launches attack on 9 sites in Pakistan and Pakistani Jammu and Kashmir
I was reading the obituary of the Dutch guy who helped Pakistan get its nukes a few weeks ago. Thanks to him and a few visionaries the balance was maintained Harper style!
Neonlicht··on Vatican Observatory
Ask one of these famed Catholics how they feel about democracy or gender equality and they are just like all the other Christians. After all they get their orders from the same book.
Neonlicht··on International Workers' Day
All of Europe celebrated May day. All of Europe? No one village stood against the lazy commie legions!
Neonlicht··on Judge rules Apple executive lied under oath, makes criminal contempt referral
I recall Apple's commercial slogan "There's an app for that"

Apple did not write those apps themselves.

Neonlicht··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
People remember those days because the Republicans hadn't destroyed trade unions and the pension system yet.
Neonlicht··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
Giving up your economy for a future war with China that may or may not happen is frankly idiotic. The US already has thousands of nuclear warheads in storage so what are you afraid of? This is basically how the USSR collapsed.
Neonlicht··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
Nobody in Beijing or Brussels was surprised they had plans. Observe how neither of them is kissing his ass at the moment.
Neonlicht··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
Thank you it seems everyone has already forgotten project 2025.

Look I don't want to be too harsh on Americans nobody took the Nazis seriously when they had already written a book about how they saw the world... But none of this is shocking.

There is an ideology behind what Trump is doing and he never hid it from the world.

Neonlicht··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
I disagree. The root cause is obviously Israel founding which was the the last colonial project that Western European countries undertook.

I predict that in the next decades Europe will cut ties with Israel completely but until then we reap what we sow.

Neonlicht··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
This Yemen situation is quite interesting. In 1948 nobody could have conceived a situation in which white people wouldn't be running the world, Dutch people were still religious and public opinion was pro Israel. Hopefully when the last boomers die we can finally extricate ourselves from this self imposed fuck up.
Neonlicht··on I won't connect my dishwasher to your cloud
I always think that if you have a very expensive dress you're better of bringing it to a professional dry cleaner service anyway.
Neonlicht··on Extreme poverty in India has dropped to negligible levels
Culture can be changed. That's the power of Western countries- constant change. Nothing is ever set in stone.
Neonlicht··on Extreme poverty in India has dropped to negligible levels
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8rk5d7ekjmo

I found this article interesting. Personally I think starvation is a very low bar to clear. What matters to the first world is whether or not India has a middle class that is able to buy stuff.

Neonlicht··on Europe's most wanted man plotted my murder and that of my colleague
It's called living in a high trust society.
Neonlicht··on Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges
Printers are mostly used by companies and they don't care. It's all tax deductible.
Neonlicht··on Regulatory gridlock in the U.S. risks losing the drone arms race
If China wants Taiwan back the only thing they need to do is make sure the US Navy and cargo ships can't reach the island.
Neonlicht··on Lawrence of Arabia, Paul Atreides, and the roots of Frank Herbert's Dune (2021)
Considering the British supplied weapons, explosives and tactics to the Saudi uprising "white man saviour" is not far from the truth no?

I don't know why it is considered politically incorrect nowadays to say that the world as we know it was shaped by white people. Deng Xiaoping himself constantly told his own comrades how fucking pathetic China had become. And nobody could argue with him.

Neonlicht··on Lawrence of Arabia, Paul Atreides, and the roots of Frank Herbert's Dune (2021)
Yeah I like the first book the most. The series went off the rails.
Neonlicht··on US authorities can see more than ever, with Big Tech as their eyes
When a famous media personality was assassinated the police managed to catch the killers within hours. Turns out they really DO track every car on the highway- it wasn't just bragging.

Every rich country is a surveillance state.

Neonlicht··on US authorities can see more than ever, with Big Tech as their eyes
Actually I think the message that people should get is that folks LIKE fascism.

Germans loved Hitler until Stalingrad.

Neonlicht··on Spotify's Beta Used 'Pirate' MP3 Files, Some from Pirate Bay (2017)
This sums up the history of Western countries.
Neonlicht··on Spotify's Beta Used 'Pirate' MP3 Files, Some from Pirate Bay (2017)
Was it even possible to make a legal Spotify? I don't recall that any of the music labels were actually renting out MP3s.
Neonlicht··on Outlook classic dropped from Microsoft 365
Well speaking for myself: the reason why I keep using Microsoft stuff is because I grew up with it. The first computer that I owned came with 98SE. At this point in my life I do not really want to learn new programmes.

But if MS keeps changing shit I may as well move on to new horizons.

Neonlicht··on The Wrongs of Thomas More
Actually most countries did not choose freedom of religion. Protestant countries kicked the Catholics out and vice versa.

The Netherlands was for a long time the only place in Europe that considered religion to be a personal affair- Amsterdam famously was the only city with a synagogue. However even the Dutch occasionally had to execute or banish religious extremists.

Neonlicht··on $1.5B Bybit Hack – How the biggest hack in history happened
Crypto bros are the perfect victims. Nobody likes them.
Neonlicht··on Breaking into apartment buildings in five minutes on my phone
In fairness I think that these "locked doors" are to keep the homeless/drug users out or kids starting fires not really burglars.
Neonlicht··on Breaking into apartment buildings in five minutes on my phone
You can get in the building with a bit of social engineering. I live in an apartment complex. Put on a DHL or Dominos cap and nobody cares. It's your front door lock that is the real barrier.
