Are there any companies listed on public exchanges doing this kind of work? This will surely change advertising forever.
Norther··on Student's physics homework picked up by Amazon quantum researchers
Can anyone eli5 the breakthrough that this (seemingly bright!) student made? I read the paper earlier but a lot of it went over my head!

Can anyone recommend an affordable temperature/humidity sensor?

$56 of which is breadboard and hook up wire - I'm sure it's possible to have a custom pcb fabbed for about $20,and if you do small runs to have the pcb cost drop to less than $1.

What's stopping a Bash script from doing something similar? You could alias ls to a malicious actor for example.
Norther··on Ask HN: What are the most interesting emerging fields in computer science?
Perhaps I should have asked for the most obscure :) I wonder how many truly emerging fields still exist within computer science. I feel that resiros [1] may be correct in suggesting applications in other areas of science are most interesting / obscure (in the context of that discipline, at least).

Norther··on The dawn of online piracy (2015)
Anyone else think this would make a great movie? Or perhaps a Silicon Valley-esque tv-series centered around the Scene would be fantastic.
Norther··on IBM Type
While interesting, is this really necessary? Call me skeptical, but value add = negligible, justification for an entire department to spend several months+ working = likely.

I can see why companies like Apple and Microsoft would want to be involved in making fonts, they make their bread and butter by creating warm-fuzzies and having a consistent design language; IBM though, less so?

Genuinely interested to hear others thoughts.

Norther··on Unicore: A new Unikernel project
Surely 'Nukey McNukeface' is the obvious choice.
Norther··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a modern MS Access clone?
Dustin, wow. I can see a lot of work went into your talk. I read along for about 80% and you make some great points. Hyperfiddle looks impressive - I signed up to the dev mailing list.

As an aside, do you think traditionally built apps should be moving away from SQL and towards immutable stores like Datomic?

Norther··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a modern MS Access clone?
This is nice! I hadn't heard of this category of services before today. I particularly like the idea of events in goms. Thank you.
Norther··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a modern MS Access clone?
Forgive my ignorance, but SSD? Do you mean solid state drives?
Norther··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a modern MS Access clone?
Interesting! I was thinking more along the lines of a web application, but it's nice to see an (actively maintained/developed?) somewhat-literal clone of Access.
