I'm not so sure, I've made an autobattler and even recently using Astra to come up with new mechanics or cards they're usually always bad as if it doesn't "get it" even if I feed it all the current cards in game and say "like this, these are good because of x and y." When brainstorming, I usually get it to generate 20 ideas and then I come up with something entirely new based on bad stuff it responded with. I've never been able to actually use its ideas verbatim.

I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the tech or whether it will eventually have "taste" in such nebulous domains as "what is fun." They still can't write funny jokes despite trillions of dollars of training because even though there's plenty of funny material and discussions on what funny is, I guess it's still kind of a human thing.

yeah some friends of mine in game dev are a bit doom and gloom about all this and I need to keep reminding them that the hard work is making the million decisions that communicate the vision, the code/assets were never really what people were buying your game for. Even assuming an AI could do literally every technical part of game dev someone (for now) needs to sit there and go "nah this part doesn't feel right" and "that boss 2nd phase opener attack is too long" etc. until AI can also answer those questions and intuit what is good and bad taste there's still stuff for game devs to do. "minecraft in skyrim" is cool for about 10 seconds till you think about actually sitting down to play it.

that was my assumption, maybe you use Claude but want it to use OpenAI image generation or something. this got a physical shrug out of me.
NothingAboutAny··on When did Google get so weird?
I tried Kagi for 2 months and I found myself still reaching for google when it didn't have the results I wanted. further, a bunch of little stuff was broken here and there (a login screen taking me to search instead of assistant etc.) I felt the $5 tier was too restrictive and I didn't want to pay even more for something I perceived as not really being good enough.

if I'm paying for a search engine I'd expect it to be a little premium, but it felt like a worse google you'd only use for ideological reasons.

NothingAboutAny··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
I started off with Terra at first before reading anything basically just picking "the middle one" after a while of use I didn't really notice a difference between Terra-Medium and Luna-High, the benchmarks since have suggested there's no real reason to use terra because Luna is twice the speed and some fraction of a cost while on xhigh reasoning achieving better results than Terra medium
NothingAboutAny··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
I was talking about changing banks with my spouse, the following two weeks I get podcast ads and Samsung TV ads about the bank I mentioned. I use all the usual off the shelf "dont track me" stuff like a pihole and a "resit fingerprinting" Firefox fork and a VPN and everything else. I'm not amazed it still somehow got me, just sad.
NothingAboutAny··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
I mean you only need at add the stipulation that there was clear negligence or malice in your instructions to the agent. like we already do with a bunch of other crimes.
NothingAboutAny··on GPT-6 Astra
yeah for me it's "I wanna add this new thing to an existing system" and the AI responds "we should just add some arbitrary state here to facilitate this feature". The real issue is the existing system needs to change entirely to facilitate, I know this, Good developers know this, The AI however knows the shitty solution would solve the immediate problem because it's been trained on shitty solutions. the problem could simply be the AI doesn't have all nebulous loose context I have about the goals of the project and future plans, but I would have to write a novel to give it that context.
NothingAboutAny··on Fastpotify
It truly has been one of the worst UX experiences and poorly made apps that ever made it to mainstream. I remember a decade or so ago there being a bunch of buzz about them in software dev because they were a microservice node.js/react stack or something with each UI element or portion of back-end having a separate dev team. I can vividly remember thinking "oh that's probably why when I change song sometimes the album art doesn't update." they're living proof your product doesn't even need to be that good you just need to be first to market and not really piss anyone off.
NothingAboutAny··on Patterns and problems in emerging multi-agent systems
I think it is useful to remember, because enough people think these things have genuine motives desires and treat them in that way because of that misunderstanding. they think theres a person in there with morals that would or wouldn't lie because of some devious reason and forget simply the context filled up and the truth was "forgotten".
NothingAboutAny··on Patterns and problems in emerging multi-agent systems
you're still mistaking that Claude "knows" anything, it doesn't know or think, it's a word prediction algorithm and there is nothing stopping a word prediction algorithm from predicting falsehoods.
NothingAboutAny··on Taste Is All That's Left
I'd believe it, my spotify breaks all the time now and I seem to remember them announcing none of their devs code anymore. not 10 seconds ago I had to force close it to get it to stop playing music on my phone.
NothingAboutAny··on Agent Skill to Force Docs in ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English
I tried "be concise and respond in a blunt tone" and all that did was add a section to the bottom of every response "here's the blunt concise truth <1 million bullet points>"
NothingAboutAny··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
I do this in Unity because allocations/GC cause hitches. it's pretty normal thing to do there's even the built in pooling libraries so you can pre-allocate 10,000 gameobjects when the game starts. I haven't played with ECS/DOTS yet but I assume it does something similar.
NothingAboutAny··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
The CSIRO renewables plan factors in only 2-4 hours of battery capacity (way less, with some already built) with the rest of the backup coming from existing pumped hydro and an existing Natural Gas plant. one of the reasons nuclear looked worse in the report is that they would have to actually build a nuclear power plant. it might not make direct sense to build nuclear given what already physically exists, but apples to apples it's not quite as clear.
NothingAboutAny··on Australian energy retailers must offer three hours of free daytime electricity
it's much much more expensive, people like to repeat the line that solar is the cheapest form of energy while hand-waving away batteries and grid upgrades required. I did the napkin math a while back but a battery bank for 10's of thousands of homes for 48 hours costed as much (more?) than just building a nuclear power plant.
NothingAboutAny··on Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model
For me in Game dev, codex has a habit of checking every argument for null and then silently early exiting the methods when true. I have explicit instructions for it not to do this - but it still does. I haven't done any c# outside game dev but I have no idea why people would want their programs to silently fail.
NothingAboutAny··on AI children's books, body horror edition
the lack of effort has been the main thing for me since this all started. you give people a tool to do something easier and instead of doing more WITH the tool they do this instead. is anyone out there using AI to make more higher quality children's books than were possible before?
NothingAboutAny··on Steam Machine launches today
there's probably ~$150 in the ram and ~$100 in the SSD alone, not to mention everything else. we gotta have data-centers though because, uh.. well, we gotta have em.
NothingAboutAny··on SpaceX to buy Cursor for $60B
I dont understand if AI is so good at code why are people buying software? couldn't musk just generate his own IDE with the spacex brand behind it?
NothingAboutAny··on AI agent bankrupted their operator while trying to scan DN42
I dunno if it even is because isn't that spelt trawling? just looked it up and they're both correct fishing terms sigh
NothingAboutAny··on RIP software hackathons. Long live the hardware hackathon
there's an Ice cream shop in my city that has obviously generated all their signage and menus and everything else, even on their website the photos section has AI generated people smiling and happy next to the sign. I get that it's a small business that has probably saved a couple of G's on design/code but it's all so sloppy and obvious.
NothingAboutAny··on The dead economy theory
this time we're automating humans that can do anything that humans can do. you should be asking what happened to the horses which were replaced by the tractors. the answer is elsewhere in the thread, their pop dropped 88% or w/e, we didnt need them anymore.
NothingAboutAny··on The dead economy theory
> I foresee a wave of entrepreneurship coming.

why would anyone pay anyone else for anything when they could just get an AI to do it? any service would now be worthless, there will be people with hardware and people without. 3 futures:

one where the hardware is shared.

one where it is not.

one where the first person with enough of it kills everyone else.

NothingAboutAny··on Can we have the day off?
I went through a big back and forth with a small startup where I initially negotiated in at 3 days a week. Eventually they said "we really need you the full 5 days" and I explained that I'm gonna do the same amount of work regardless and they could pay me 40% less by agreeing to 3 days. they still wanted me 5 days, so I took the job and just coasted those 2 days from home, they were still very happy with my performance, I ended up quitting in 6 months because I wanted my hours in the day back.

I really think management still doesn't get it.

NothingAboutAny··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
For coding the worst I've seen recently is gemini using or suggesting library methods that dont exist in c# which it catches when it builds the project (something I've told it to do to catch these.)

but for research it makes shit up all the time, I asked GPT5.5 to make me a build for Rogue Trader and not only did it use out of date info, it made up a bunch of skills that were NEVER in the game. I attribute that to there not being enough online information in the wikis or whatever but I wish it would just say "I dont know" instead of hallucinating but I know that's not how the tech works.

NothingAboutAny··on The bottleneck was never the code
I've had seniors tell me my entire career that writing code was the easiest part of their jobs.
NothingAboutAny··on Codex for almost everything
I feel the same way, the AI browsers and the Agentic team of agents stuff I just really dont understand why I would want it. I use AI every day but theres always a clear separation, as in I'm using it to get an output I want, not getting it to use things for me. It screws up the output maybe 30% of the time, so why would I risk it actually being able to do things and touch stuff I care about.
NothingAboutAny··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
yes but if a dev pushes a line of code that wipes the accounts of millions of users at a fintech, the dev will get fired but the CEO will get sued into oblivion. if the agent isn't responsible, you HAVE to be, cause angry people wont listen to "it's no ones fault your money is gone"
NothingAboutAny··on Our commitment to Windows quality
yeah for me even with other people, the amount of times you think "it would be easier for me to just show you" is maybe 30% of interactions with agents currently.

perplexity keeps trying to get me to use "computer" and for the life of me I can't think of anything I'd actually do with it.
