Paton··on Ask HN: What tools do you use for Web Development?
Design: Photoshop CS3

Code: Aptana Studio

FTP: FileZilla

I just downloaded Stylizer... going to try it out.

Paton··on Techcrunch just deleted all comments older than 1/24/2010
I hope the comments from the first TechCrunch 'Twttr' posts are cached somewhere.

No one could get passed how to pronounce it. "Twitter or Twatter?"

Paton··on The best running shoe may be nature's own
"I really don't understand the heel first running style."

Running heel first is undeniably easier than running toe first.

For a runner to switch from heel to toe running is straight out painful. It puts more than double the stress on the lower leg (calf, shins). Overtime, becoming acclimated to toe running is probably beneficial, but it requires a lot more lower leg strength and conditioning.

Simply put, people run heel first because it's easier.

You got to do, what you gotta do.

Unethical, nonetheless.

Paton··on Ask HN: How to become a better programmer?
Between starting with Ruby on Rails or Django with Python, is one better to start with than the other?
Paton··on Tell HN: I wrote a website with a unique method of recommending links.
I would default on the light screen

This is essential.

Paton··on Make More Than GPA
I know a lot of people in my high school who are in the top 5% of our class, but have no ability to think creatively.

GPA is just a measure of how much time you spend studying, factored in with your natural intelligence.

The people with the most intellectual potential are those who maintain a decent GPA but spend little time studying, but instead do things that are productive (as the article explained).

A valedictorian who does nothing but studies doesn't have a greatly increased chance of succeeding in life.

Paton··on A simple Chrome extension that replaces your New Tab page with a to-do list
I take that back... tasks are erased when you clear cookies/temp files since it uses the HTML 5 web storage.

Could they not have made a permanent file elsewhere to store the data?

Paton··on A simple Chrome extension that replaces your New Tab page with a to-do list
Maybe I'll actually get things done now. Installed
Paton··on Ask HN and PG - Justin.tv Question?
Considering a show called "New Moon - Looping" already has 33,000+ views... I'm not sure.
Paton··on The Best Way to Solve a Problem: Give Up
Good points. People care too much about pointless things. People, too often, live in the short-term while ignoring the long-term. Instant gratification doesn't lead toward long-term satisfaction
Paton··on Yawn. It’s one of the best things you can do for your brain
I yawned at least 6 times
Paton··on Ask HN: What's the best first business book for a programmer?
What kind of business are you interested in?

If internet/tech... read TechCrunch and Mashable. Watch "This Week in Startups" by Jason Calacanis.

Watch some picthes from TC50. (Click the logos to see their pitch): http://www.techcrunch50.com/2009/

Business Week and Money magazines are decent, but less tech related.

That said, you'll still learn the most by experience. That is, trying things, making mistakes, and learning from them. There is a learning curve involved, but if you have the determination you'll be fine.

Good Luck

Paton··on Never Launch, Just Iterate
Agreed.
Paton··on Ask HN: What do you use for tracking your users?
As for Analytics: You can see the current day's traffic by extending the view period to include today's date. By default it only displays up to the previous day, but you can usually extend it to include today's date.
Paton··on Galactic Suite Orbital Hotel Taking Reservations for 2012
Is this a joke? If not, it's simply awesome.
Paton··on Ask HN: What is your Home Page in your browser?
Google Chrome's start page. (my top 8 visited websites)
Paton··on Poll: Should you run ads from day 1?
No. Never run ads right from the start.

Advertisements hinder user experience. Startups with the best user experience (and value) to visitors will succeed. A startup who works on implementation and user experience before monetizing the site has a better chance of success.

This is not to say you shouldn't think about how to monetize in the future.
