Quiark··on Show HN: Quake ported to safe Rust, playable in browser
I'm still getting blown to pieces, how is it safe?
Quiark··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
bad consumer
Quiark··on Brume is a 24-voice multi-timbral desktop synth for the CM5
Actually as a proud new owner of SuperCollider and a breadboard (and Taobao account) I'm not very far from getting a few rotary encoders myself ...
Quiark··on Brume is a 24-voice multi-timbral desktop synth for the CM5
I don't understand why, if you want to use this, would you run it on RPi instead of just on your computer? Is it for realtime guarantees (ie. no OS updating in the background)?
Quiark··on Agent Safehouse – macOS-native sandboxing for local agents
Usually it takes less than 5 minutes to review the shell script that downloads stuff.
Quiark··on Untapped Way to Learn a Codebase: Build a Visualizer
Do you guys remember the smalltalk toolkit posted here a while ago which their creators made specifically for help understanding new codebases?
Quiark··on Why software stocks are getting pummelled
yeah but it doesn't :)
Quiark··on All it takes is for one to work out
My dumb ass read it as "all it takes is that you workout", just with the more fancy pronoun 'one'
Quiark··on Beads – A memory upgrade for your coding agent
yep lol one of the rants was how strong typing sucks and slows everything down another one about Haskell
Quiark··on Show HN: I recreated Windows XP as my portfolio
same on Firefox macos
Quiark··on Ask HN: The government of my country blocked VPN access. What should I use?
It's possible it worked in the past and doesn't work any more.
Quiark··on Gemini 2.5 Flash Image
Me and you are but that guy over there isn't
Quiark··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
This means even more influence to Chinese phone makers which don't bother themselves with compliance to Google's platform ideas
Quiark··on How I build software quickly
while i'm currently using sqlite, since it has only one write transaction at a time, if I understand correctly, opening a tx and doing outside requests while in the transaction could potentially block your whole application if the outside requests keep timing out... so you kinda need to watch out for that
Quiark··on Introducing tmux-rs
you cultivated your interest in programming languages and techniques

other people use the stupidest possible javascript to launch product and really focus on product and marketing

yet other people stay as far away from computers as possible and focus on more human activities

you just do what you're drawn to naturally

Quiark··on Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview
Microsoft is working on it
Quiark··on Ask HN: Where do you reliably find worldwide remote jobs?
Why do people believe humanities education would make people act ethically?
Quiark··on The Frontend Treadmill
I liked it in the Jurrasic park
Quiark··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
This seems really nice to me. Of course people are going to click it away to get their dopamine but that's just reality.
Quiark··on Falkon: A KDE Web Browser
yeah but Chromium is just the web engine from KDE with a bunch of things on top :P
Quiark··on SQLite-on-the-server is misunderstood: Better at hyper-scale than micro-scale
How much of it was because you didn't go through TCP/IP with sqlite?
Quiark··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
Back on dial up we used browser plugin (or even separate windows app) download managers which did a lot of that
Quiark··on Show HN: FlashSpace – fast, open-source, macOS Spaces replacement
Does it also handle (let you pick) when opening a web link from another app?
Quiark··on Mise: Dev tools, env vars, task runner
I've been using nixpkgs on macos (and without brew) for 3 years now and not sure what kind of split brain problem you're talking about? I also have no idea about the problems with multiple anaconda and other python builds complain about.
Quiark··on Obtainium: Get Android App Updates Directly from the Source
while your app gets rejected when there is a button that does nothing :D
Quiark··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2024)
apparently that will be soon required in Malaysia. And they use a OASIS standard
Quiark··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2024)
You should add another use to it which is exploring live in-memory object graphs of applications. Make some adapter library to allow getting those objects from apps that want to use and then you can fly through the data being processed. For debugging, exploration and education. I'm using a basic version of this idea for debugging: https://github.com/Quiark/overlog
Quiark··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2024)
I was just watching with my young kids YT videos about casting metals into objects and how steel is made, sometimes modernity is great
Quiark··on How fast is quantum entanglement? Scientists investigate it at attosecond scale
Quantum computer is a (sort of) practical application of entanglement. At least it's useful for breaking cryptography.

As explained elsewhere, entanglement cannot be used for faster than light communication because even though change in one particle affects the other particle, without additional information observer sees only a random change.

Quiark··on Inductive or deductive? Rethinking the fundamental reasoning abilities of LLMs
"This alien super-computer made from entangled iron atoms clearly is not thinking because it doesn't have neurons"

you mean like this?
