QuizzicalCarbon··on Mythos is shaping up to be a nothingburger
Upcoming IPO. Announce product is too powerful to release. No connection whatsoever.
QuizzicalCarbon··on The Onion to Take over InfoWars
This all feels so archaic. Does anyone actually care about either of these sites anymore?
QuizzicalCarbon··on “Captain Gains” on Capitol Hill
It’s called “term limits” and it’s a good thing.
QuizzicalCarbon··on U.S. Added 911,000 Fewer Jobs in the Year Ended in March
This data is from the Biden administration, predating the current Trump policies.
QuizzicalCarbon··on FCC wants all phones unlocked in sixty days, AT&T and T-Mobile aren't so keen
I’m in desperate need of a phone. My current phone has a very cracked screen and I can’t afford a replacement.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Zuckerberg claims regret on caving to White House pressure on content
It’s true, evangelical voters are notorious for their low turnout. Just look it up.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Supreme Court rules ex-presidents have immunity for official acts
I honestly can’t tell if you’re talking about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which many leaders of the intelligence community claimed was fake Russian disinfo, only to be recently admitted into court evidence as being real and factual. Who exerted pressure on those officials to lie to the public before the last presidential election?
QuizzicalCarbon··on Devin: AI Software Engineer
…And how quickly you get to praising Stalin. Wow.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Devin: AI Software Engineer
“They had time” is such an amusing, and inaccurate, assertion. Toil was a very real, everyday thing. The only way to avoid toil was to be on one’s deathbed.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Seattle Law Mandating Higher Delivery Driver Pay Is a Disaster
It would be useful if more people could look at this from the driver’s perspective (in a nonjudgmental way). Most drivers I know are well aware of the costs associated with delivering but they do it anyway out of necessity. The job market isn’t great out there and I know many people, myself included, who’ve been job hunting for over a year. And delivering has been a decent fallback to make some ends meet. These fees are absolutely nuking a lot of potential deliveries and hurting drivers substantially.
QuizzicalCarbon··on AI behavior guardrails should be public
Saying most scientists in the world are white males seems like a very Anglo-centric perspective, at least based on the numbers available from statista.com.
QuizzicalCarbon··on iMessage with PQ3 Cryptographic Protocol
Those “bad outcomes” already existed pre encryption. If anything, it’ll be more of the same.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Mourning Google
Think of it like how an orchestra conductor and musicians work together.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Safari used to have a Windows version but it was so underused Apple canned it.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Dara Khosrowshahi had a stint driving for Uber and delivering for Uber Eats
FYI, after a DoorDash driver marks a delivery as complete they cannot see any new messages from that customer.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Lenovo profits sink 75% as PC demand continues nosedive
Coincidentally, Microsoft makes more money from Android than it does from Windows.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Apple’s agreement with Cupertino
It’s a short-term car lease. Nothing new.
QuizzicalCarbon··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
Although, NPR was created by an act of Congress, along with the CPB.
QuizzicalCarbon··on The Hollywood sign debuted 100 years ago
Seconding the great score.
QuizzicalCarbon··on It's easier and faster to pirate an e-book, than it is to buy it
This is how digital goods are “sold” (leased is more accurate), it isn’t an Amazon issue or an e-book issue. You’re leasing access to digital goods, not owning them. It’s much larger and broader than that. That’s why it’s always a good idea to download digital goods and keep them on your own device and not in the cloud on a retailer’s server.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Why it’s hard to buy deodorant in Manhattan
I have not been to a modern supermarket in the U.S. that didn’t have self-checkout. Self-checkout is common.
QuizzicalCarbon··on How Brian Eno Created Ambient 1: Music for Airports
You might try Deus Arrakis by Klaus Schulze https://youtu.be/UPCq1o4yvow
QuizzicalCarbon··on Google Maps' moat is evaporating (2020)
Duck Duck Go uses Apple Maps.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Who owns Tesla’s data?
Ford sells the same electric engine used in their Mach-E as a separate kit. It’s pretty cool.
QuizzicalCarbon··on ‘Blade Runner’ at 40
Vangelis’ own Chariots of Fire and 1492 are exceptional scores.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Monkeypox outbreak in U.S. is bigger than the CDC reports. Testing is 'abysmal'
Covid-19 has not been stopped at all.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Barriers to Business – How cities can pave a path to entrepreneurship
In Costa Rica it seems like for every permit or license requirement, there’s a semi-official way to sidestep the red tape if you’re willing or able to pay someone off, for not much money either. For example, the requirement for non-residents to leave the country every 3 months was easily avoided by me and my neighbors because there was an established process of giving your passport over to a particular person who would then get it officially stamped by customs and border patrol to make it look like you dutifully left and returned to the country. All it cost was about $30 USD.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Apple will let you unsend and edit messages in iMessage
My initial reaction is one of uncertainty, maybe unease. I really like having an immutable record of personal and business communiques. This feels like a loss more than a gain.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Waymo begins driverless rides in San Francisco
That’s ignoring all the convenience cars provide. Not to mention the utility, freedom and independence they represent to many handicapped people.
QuizzicalCarbon··on Apple silently fixes iOS zero-day, asks bug reporter to keep quiet
How can we reasonably say Apple is moving slowly to fix bugs when we don’t know how much work is going on behind the scenes? A slow response can just be a slow response.
