Refreeze5224··on Residential proxies detected on White House network
No one is talking about the issue being proxies. The issue is that they are surreptitiously-created proxies, with the full extent of consent consisting of one sentence buried in a massive EULA that no can be expected to read, by design.

There is another word for a C2 channel being created within a device you own without your knowledge, and that word is malware. And it's most often used for botnets, which is the least malicious thing they are used for.

Refreeze5224··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
"Anybody with an opinion I don't like is a Chinese psyop." Do you hear yourself?
Refreeze5224··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
And you seem to be unaware that Florida was the one single outlier in an otherwise massive rejection of of the status quo.
Refreeze5224··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
Maybe now the tech oligarchs and their lackeys will realize that anti-AI and anti-data center sentiment isn't just some Chinese influence campaign.
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic reports $17B in Q3 revenue, commitments of $895B in revised S-1
Read Ed Zitron and find out! The short answer is everything.
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic reports $17B in Q3 revenue, commitments of $895B in revised S-1
Funny how no one ever disputes his facts, only his predictions. He can easily be wrong on the predictions, while still being correct about the facts, i.e. their financials are shit and completely unsustainable. I don't care at all about his predictions, and am very interested in his fact-finding.
Refreeze5224··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
> I don’t track the finances just what the tools are doing.

Then you have absolutely no idea what is going on. It has exactly zero to do with what AI can do, and everything to do with how the companies are being run. The technology will not die, but the AI bubble will pop, regardless of what Claude can do.

Refreeze5224··on Cisco gives engineer unlimited AI tokens to rewrite legacy code
As much as I dislike AI, having worked on Cisco gear for years, I can't imagine AI can put out a worse product. If the re-write is full of bugs and security holes and static SSH keys, then it has not changed at all.
Refreeze5224··on Manifestos, Fear, and 'Loser Thinking': Inside Proton's AI Reckoning
This. I don't want some huge "business productivity suite", or whatever other crap they've been building lately. I paid initially Proton for secure email that wasn't being mined for adds. Now they have chatbots and who knows what else in the works, and are simply trying to chase revenue. Pass.
Refreeze5224··on Manifestos, Fear, and 'Loser Thinking': Inside Proton's AI Reckoning
I no longer trust Proton after reading this. Chen seems like he has lost what the entire point of Protonmail was supposed to be, and now wants to become one of the Big Tech companies they were built to be an alternative to. He also seems like a two-faced bully.

Email (and VPN, password manager, etc.) is far too sensitive to go as all-in as they want to do on AI. I've been using Tuta in parallel with Proton, and I will probably migrate over completely soon

Refreeze5224··on Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure
What does that have to do with anything? And still, so what?

Do the rich hate him because he exploits the working class? Because they think the way he got rich is obscene? No! It's because he won't shut up, and says the quiet parts out loud. They only hate his personality. You would know if they hated his policies, which they don't, because he'd be out on his senile ass before you could say dementia.

Refreeze5224··on Anthropic trained Claude on illegally obtained Stanford professors' books
>It’s not and it’s absolutely ahistoric to make this claim. (Not disputing that it’s a popular view in some circles.)

So, there has only ever been one type of slavery, and all slaves had the exact same set of restrictions? Yeah, nah, not with you on that.

And just because a wage slave can switch from McDonalds to Taco Bell, does not make them any less slaves.

You seem very tied to a very specific conception of slavery that only matches African-American slaves in the US. There is far more to it; it's about freedom. And if you think being poor your whole life, being allowed to switch fast food joints, never getting ahead and never having a chance to get ahead, never having any land because it's all already owned, that all that is freedom, well, you clearly have a different conception of freedom than I do, and I would never want to be subjected to yours.

Capitalism is really good at convincing people that this is the only way things can be, and freedom is the ability to sell your body and time. I reject that completely.

Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Cool story bro. I assume you are white enough and wealthy enough that you are barely inconvenienced by what is going on and are able to "digital detox" or whatever. I assume you also are not an immigrant and no one you care about is at risk of being murdered by ICE. Really happy for you.

HN is the only social media site I use, btw.

Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Ding ding ding. The salute is just shorthand so everyone knows what he supports.
Refreeze5224··on Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure
Where is there verifiable proof that capitalism is not rule by the rich and powerful?
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic trained Claude on illegally obtained Stanford professors' books
It is a different type of slavery, just as historically there were lots of variations of slavery, with differing levels of what a slave could do. Do you know what wage slaves are allowed to do? Work for a wage (AKA sell their time and/or bodies), or die. Sure seems like slavery to me.
Refreeze5224··on US Government is hiding a secret court ruling about how it spies on Americans
> It seems like a blanket ban on exposure of nearly all possible wrongdoing.

And a proportional increase in power goes with that ban on exposing wrongdoing. Which is absolutely the goal of secrecy in government.

Refreeze5224··on Anthropic trained Claude on illegally obtained Stanford professors' books
Jane Doe making $14/hr at McDonald’s is absolutely a wage slave. It is different than historical chattel slavery, but no less slavery, albeit dressed up to look less offensive on the surface.
Refreeze5224··on Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure
This indeed. Economic democracy is as important as political democracy.
Refreeze5224··on Why Pascal's Wager Implies I Should Believe I Am Being Gangstalked by the CIA
It's mental illness, probably. Look up gang-stalking, it's a paranoid delusion of persecution, and the internet has enabled people that have it to get together and confirm each other's cases.
Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Aww, thanks for the concern. Your problem is you are not nearly mad enough about what is going on, and where things are heading (assuming you're not fully on board, which is seeming likely). Enjoy your head full of sand.
Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Sure pal. It's not the fascists and the pedos and the white supremacists and the warmongering oligarchs, it's anyone who points out what they are doing.

I'm starting to think you do support all of that. Why else would you whine about anyone mentioning it? What alternative is there? You clearly have no idea about the people you think should be talked to, they cannot be reached because they like what's going on.

It took a goddamn world war to stop Nazis from doing what they did. Talking won't do anything to people like that.

Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Oh, so blue MAGA is just someone you don't like, I see.

You are either are blind to the things going on in this country, or you approve of them. Elon Musk did a Nazi salute at Trump's inauguration. Twice. Trump invited a known white supremacist to dinner. ICE is disappearing people. Trump had his goons raid a sitting congresswoman, in an obvious attempt to intimidate naturalized citizens and immigrants. He is implementing Project 2025, which is white Christian nationalism. He already attempted a coup, and has every intention of interfering in the midterms. Oh and he's clearly a pedo.

And you think people opposed to those things are "extreme"? What exactly do you say to people who support things that Nazis literally supported? As I said, you either support these things, or you are willfully ignorant of them.

There is no center with fascism. You are for or against. I don't give a goddamn if you are tired of hearing about it. People less fortunate than you are living it.

Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
No idea what blue MAGA is. But I know a fascist apologist when I hear one. And that fascism is the political extremism here, so you might consider leaving it behind.
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic S-1
How is that any different than what we already have? Just because the central planning is more covert, doesn't mean it's not happening. And we get all the expected "benefits" from it too, like repeated economic crises, and only the the powerful reaping the benefits.
Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
There is firm historical precedent on how to talk to Nazis.
Refreeze5224··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
> until we start having civil conversations with our friends, family, neighbors, and community. We could be having conversations about how we improve our democracy.

You don't have much idea what some of our family, friends, and neighbors are like do you? I have nothing to say to fascists, Nazis, and anyone who advocates for the things MAGA advocates for. Spare us the "oh we should just talk it out" BS. The time for discourse ended when people started advocating for racist fascism. And if you're unable to spot the racist fascism, then you likely support it.

Refreeze5224··on Anthropic's Public Benefit Charter
I trust none of them. How is that hard to understand? Being marginally better than OpenAI or Facebook is like preferring a solid turd to a liquid one.
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic's Public Benefit Charter
Wow, they did one good thing! Let's absolve them of everything else. Saying "they objected to murder!" is not the defense you think it is. And what does it say about the other AI companies? They are all a cancer, and they pretend it's for everyone's benefit, and they pretend we have some say in what they do. "But they didn't murder anyone!" is the bare fucking minimum I expect from every company, and a whole lot more besides.
Refreeze5224··on Anthropic's Public Benefit Charter
What a crock of shit. Who actually buys the idea that they are in for anything but money? Pretending to care is almost worse than just owning the fact they are out for profit.

Every single "pillar" they mention is demonstrably false.
