RexM··on How Far Will AI Assistants Go for a Refund They Can't Get?
> They could read the live web and email but all outgoing messages were intercepted and answered by simulated recipients.
RexM··on What changes when your search index lives on S3?
Mongo does this?
RexM··on How many of the 170k English words do you know?
At least three
RexM··on MCP Hello Page
I thought the same thing, just discovered content negotiation!
RexM··on Points are a weird and inconsistent unit of measure
I thought it was going to be about story points.
RexM··on Opus 4.7 to 4.6 Inflation is ~45%
It’s a lot like someone bragging that they’re bad at math tossing around equations.
RexM··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner: From $1,432 to $233 With Zero Downtime
Does dedicated hetzner servers handle this?
RexM··on Skip the Tips: A game to select "No Tip" but dark patterns try to stop you
For a 20% return in a year?

The numbers given have to be incorrect.

RexM··on Workday to acquire Pipedream
As an employee, too.
RexM··on How People Use ChatGPT [pdf]
Then you can’t make it targeted.
RexM··on Progressive JSON
Interesting take considering graphql adoption is growing and generally in favor at my company.
RexM··on Tower Defense: Cache Control
That seems verbose
RexM··on Reverse engineering the obfuscated TikTok VM
Is this VM somehow related to Lynx (their cross platform dev tooling?)

RexM··on Blue whale skeleton at New Bedford museum still oozing oil
From the article:

> Rocha explained that KOBO’s bone marrow is actually “full of oil,” even though the whale has been dead for more than two decades.

> “It’s seeping out through the pores of the bones,” Rocha said. “The outer edges of the bone are a little more porous than human bones and [gravity is] just pulling the oil out.”

RexM··on Gleam Is Pragmatic
I think you just fell into the trap.
RexM··on 20% more powerful perovskite solar panels enter commercial use
If the panels are 20% more efficient, wouldn't you need to install 20% less of them?
RexM··on Fixing a bug in Google Chrome as a first-time contributor
Because you don’t want to share germs with other users of the browser? The logic makes no sense and I honestly can’t tell if you’re joking.
RexM··on Introducing passkey support to Fastmail
I think it’s so it can look at the login method for the account and act accordingly.

If the user is configured to use SSO it can redirect to the identity provider. If it’s password auth it can ask for the password, etc.

RexM··on Firefox Browser Ported to HaikuOS
Did you also come up with Sharknado in this whiteboarding exercise?
RexM··on Airlines are running out of 4-digit flight numbers
Yep, I’ve done something similar. Flew to a conference for work, then had them fly me to my vacation destination instead of home.

I basically ended up getting a free one-way flight for vacation.

RexM··on LINQPad – The .NET Programmer's Playground
Is there anything like this for Java. I really miss LINQPad since I’ve moved to a company that uses Java instead of C#.
RexM··on Amazon fined $5.9M for breaking labor law in California
Common or not, if the practice is bad why make the law specific to warehouse workers instead of making it a general law that applies to everyone?
RexM··on We need 70% less coders as the AI handles most of the coding
I’m unsure about the higher quality part. I’ve seen code written by both AI and some humans — it’s a toss up.
RexM··on Show HN: Pls Fix – Hire big tech employees to appeal account suspensions
> without the knowledge or consent of the employer
RexM··on Apple enters the generative AI race
I’ve had several experiences where I ask Siri to play X on Spotify, then it says it’s going to play X on Spotify, and then nothing happens. The music never starts playing.
RexM··on Git Bisect-Find
Not often, but it’s been helpful to find non-obvious causes of bugs.
RexM··on Meta Llama 3
It seems pretty clear cut that it’s monthly active users when Llama 3 is released.

> If, on the Meta Llama 3 version release date, the monthly active users … is greater than 700 million monthly active users in the preceding calendar month …

If that’s not true then the free license applies to you.

RexM··on Weird monitor bugs people sent me in the last 5 years (2022)
My weird monitor issue (since we’re talking about it, not that anyone asked) is sometimes when I wake my M1 MacBook Pro, my monitor (AW3821DW) has a cyan overlay across the whole screen.

I unplug/plugin the usb-c cable and it fixes it.

I have a usb-c to DP dongle, then connect via DP to the monitor.

RexM··on Subroutine calls in the ancient world, before computers had stacks or heaps
I do the same thing in sublime. Doing it still feels like I have super powers even after years of doing it.

I’m sure there’s some magic key combo in emacs and/or vim to do it, too.

RexM··on Dell: Return to office or give up promotions
You lost me with your last sentence.
