Rover222··on Why birds can fly over Mount Everest (2020)
Solar energy output has exploded the past few years, it's not all bad news out there.
Rover222··on Meta Ignores Brazilian Court Order to End Bolsonaro Favoritism
If you think Brazilian courts are neutral in general, ummm
Rover222··on Anthropic logged net loss of over $80B in first half of 2026
seriously. today's models are good enough because they're... today's models.
Rover222··on "I'm on a war footing": Terry Tao and the crisis in math
It's interesting to see this all play out. Yes, on a personal level, it's a bummer for mathematicians that have the goal of figuring something out, and getting personal recognition and prize money. But now that AI can do this work better, I think we should mostly just celebrate that we can suddenly solve a lot of problems, and figure out how to use these abilities in a productive way. Math needs to change, just like software development has massively changed.
Rover222··on Muse Spark Open
Apple should have morphed Siri into a Muse-like experience a year ago. But they didn't. Muse is great and millions of people are already getting used to having it be a part of their daily lives.
Rover222··on The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening
This type of sentiment made sense a year ago. It's a joke in the age of Astra and Opus 5.5.

Of course you can accomplish in 3 hours what used to take weeks.

Rover222··on An open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Microsoft Word in pure Rust
You'd rewrite the Bible in Rust at this point
Rover222··on The Mathocalypse
more like 3/4 of the comments but yea
Rover222··on Opus 5.5 agents discover two room-temperature magnetic semiconductor candidates
I’ve been burned before on this topic
Rover222··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
Fair points, thanks for the thoughts
Rover222··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Is it really "blanket surveillance" when it only sees exactly what you put into it? That's like saying you're being filmed against your will while... filming yourself.
Rover222··on OpenAI "rogue" agent activities found on Wikimedia projects
I think the recent AI summit (sorry, SI summit) in Washington established the good precedent that these model companies are responsible for making safe products. If a swam of agents breaks out of a sandbox and causes damages, the company that was running those agents should be held accountable. No better motivation for corporate good governance than massive lawsuits and possible criminal investigations.

Get's a little tricker when a customer intentionally manipulates/uses a model for crimes, I suppose.

Rover222··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
Imagine calling it racist to suggest this person became infected from a Russian lab.

Because that's what happened when people suggested the most obvious origin of the Covid pandemic.

Rover222··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
What's your point?
Rover222··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
A lot of Europeans are salty about the continent's decline into near irrelevance in terms of leading edge innovation. It's 90% the US and China at this point. But would be great to see that change.
Rover222··on Gemini 4 Argon
Wen gemini desktop coding app?
Rover222··on Coding is not solved
If you've used Opus 5.5, it's clear that coding is solved in the practical sense, beyond the endless march of 9's.
Rover222··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
thanks!
Rover222··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
Sir I despise your ill informed debacle of a speech
Rover222··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
Imagine having to virtue signal your comment first like that
Rover222··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
Congrats on the dumbest rant I've read all week. Can't even get the company names straight.
Rover222··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
true, but I think the space mining talk is mostly about asteroids and the moon
Rover222··on OpenAI GPT–6 Astra breaks Enigma message that has resisted solution since 2005
now we're talking
Rover222··on Grok 4.7
You don't have to go into conspiracy mode about this. Musk clearly stated on X the other day that they delayed the release because they got some thing wrong with the RL behavior.
Rover222··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
Please explain the "worse" part. Should we be in a moral panic about lifeless barren chunks of rock being put to some use?
Rover222··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
Oh do you mean like shunning scientists wanting to investigate if covid leaked from the nearby covid virus lab that was researching gain of function?

And kicking people off of twitter and facebook for similar banned thoughts?

Rover222··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
yeah seriously
Rover222··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Seriously. Not to mention that Alberta is trending towards independence (still unlikely, I know).
Rover222··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
This is a nice vibe. Appreciate you.
Rover222··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Do Canadians think "Yanks" is some sort of insult?

I guess it's the white version of saying Gringo.

Canada's economy is propped up by Alberta's energy production, which you my loose because they're so disgusted with the liberal politics.

Anyway, good luck with revitalizing the economy by trading with a bloc of countries in economic decline.
