Roverlord··on Kagi Translate now supports LinkedIn Speak as an output language
Works in Firefox on a different person's machine.

Although it is kind of fiddly and needs refreshing a few times.

Roverlord··on Electromagnetism as a Purely Geometric Theory
Was it by any chance a redirect to 'validate.perfdrive' something or other that then just fails? Freaked me out as it reminded me of the behaviour of those weird search hijackers I haven't seen in a good while.
Roverlord··on Tell HN: OpenAI removed all my ChatGPT history without telling me
I really hope so. It's lost my history before but only for a minute or two and I always attributed it to my browser chugging with too many tabs open. At this point I'm just going to wait and see :/
Roverlord··on Tell HN: OpenAI removed all my ChatGPT history without telling me
Same, I've seen a few people saying the same thing in the past couple of minutes.
Roverlord··on YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down
This Mitchell & Webb sketch is a pretty good summation of many of my recent Youtube recommendations.

Roverlord··on Compact holographic sound fields enable rapid one-step assembly of matter in 3D
"I'm sorry, but I am an AI language model and do not have the ability to make or serve tea. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"

But since it gives different results for different people, has anyone actually received a cup of tea?

Roverlord··on Making chloroform so I can sleep better at night [video]
The weird death of Gloria Ramirez that I heard about years ago has apparently been linked to topical DMSO as a factor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXBCIzkannw
Roverlord··on Ask HN: Why don’t web browsers answer cookie questions?
The only one I want to accept is the one that remembers that I've chosen to block all cookies.
Roverlord··on Ask HN: How many of you are open to Piracy again?
Just automate the watching process too, and get ChatGPT to summarise the content. Even better if you can let it watch with you, give it feedback, and tune it over time so it can make a value call on shows and save you the effort - "yeah I watched that, so you don't have to, you'll hate it". (/s, but I imagine it won't be in a year or two or with a skilled coder).
Roverlord··on Gigafactories are recycling old EV batteries into new ones
I heard (on here I think) that copper shortages will be a factor before lithium runs out?
Roverlord··on Brave browser to start blocking annoying cookie consent banners
The only cookie I want to allow is one that stores that I already rejected all their other cookies.
Roverlord··on Ask HN: What's happening with Gmail spam filtering?
View source, in the ones I get like that there usually is content but for some reason it isn't being displayed.
Roverlord··on Tell HN: Reddit accounts cancellation/suspension caused by VPN usage
There must be more to it than that. I use PIA VPN on reddit all the time (for at least the last 5 years or so), from various european endpoints, and I'm still fine there. I'm not shadowbanned as people do reply to my comments. The account is a decade old though so I assume that they factor account age into it as well.

I've also resolutely ignored the email verification pop up for years so I'm kind of surprised I'm still on it.

Roverlord··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2021 – Show and tell
I'm mostly a photographer (UK), looking to change my business model up when I move and incorporate more video work. I'm intrigued by the livestream production. Are there any resources you'd recommend for someone looking to get into this?
Roverlord··on The human tendency to over-water plants
I give mine a pint of water every week or two. If it wilts I water it regardless. It's been happy in a bright room near a sunny window in the UK for 10 years. Current pot is around 10" diam and 10" high for comparison.

If ever in doubt I let it tell me - it's all about the wilting, if it starts to wilt, give it water, if it's not wilting, you can wait, if you haven't seen it wilt for a while, might as well let it dry some more to avoid root rot. I also trim off dead flowers and leaves just to give the other leaves more light but I don't think that matters.

Roverlord··on Microsoft announces Windows 11
Use your Windows 7 key if you have one.
Roverlord··on Google .dev domain early access
I've had .dev domains for years. (Internally with Apache, virtual hosts IIRC?)

It seemed like the obvious choice of suffix for my localhost experiments, and I can't be the only person using it (e.g. https://headsigned.com/posts/setting-up-local-development-do...), will this new TLD break that?

I suppose I can always edit my hosts file but if I didn't know a new TLD was dropping would it screw me silently?

Roverlord··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
Home (that I won't let it remember because creeping permissions) to wherever my appointments are.
Roverlord··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
I've typed the same postcode into Maps almost every day for the past 5 years - Google, could you maybe help it be the first autocomplete result when I enter it manually?
Roverlord··on Particle physics may have reached the end of the line
I could have sworn I read yesterday that (I think it was Sag A*, or Cyg X-1) is literally pointing it's jets right at us.
Roverlord··on Tesla's $2.6B Musk Award Too Costly, Glass Lewis Says
Maybe some people are infinitely incentivizable, because they can always figure out a way to do something useful with the money.

Bill Gates for instance, although his model seems to be give it all away to good causes he believes can accomplish good. Elon still seems to believe more in his own capabilities to accomplish worthwhile things with it.

I expect he too has a little txt file somewhere on his desktop, with various amounts as milestones to unlock the next project.

Maybe at $22 billion he can afford to start asteroid mining and in orbit construction or something that would top his current accomplishments.

Roverlord··on Changes to the YouTube Partner Program
And the exchange of subs to boost both your counts and hit 1000. No doubt there will be auto player scripts emerging that will randomly watch 4000 hours of content by Friday.
Roverlord··on Show HN: Enlight – Learn to code by building projects
This is interesting stuff, good luck! Is it being used on any good public sites yet, would love to see how it gets used in the wild.
Roverlord··on A Crypto Kitty was just sold for $100k

Roverlord··on When you split the brain, do you split the person?
I imagine the neurosurgeons doing it to reduce epilepsy also want to preserve as much connectivity as possible, so total severance of the tissue between the hemispheres may be rarer in present population of splitbrain patients as their technique improved?
Roverlord··on Efficient Air-Conditioning Beams Heat into Space
Maybe it's typical cloud base height?
Roverlord··on Visualize data instantly with machine learning in Google Sheets

Roverlord··on Ask HN: What're the best-designed things you've ever used?

Roverlord··on France to build 1000 km of roads with solar panels
Someone tell them to read the hyperloop whitepaper, that way at least the solar panels won't be wasted on the ground, and they'll be at the cutting edge of train like things again.
