RyanShook··on We must pace the frontier
At least Altman is somewhat open about his desire to take over the world. Dario says one thing and does another making it impossible to know his true motives.
RyanShook··on There Will Be a Scientific Theory of Deep Learning
Here's where I'm missing understanding: for decades the idea of neural networks had existed with minimal attention. Then in 2017 Attention Is All You Need gets released and since then there is an exponential explosion in deep learning. I understand that deep learning is accelerated by GPUs but the concept of a transformer could have been used on much slower hardware much earlier.
RyanShook··on 3.4M Solar Panels
Does solar make sense without government subsidies yet?
RyanShook··on Ask HN: Is the AI software developer demand destruction narrative accurate?
The job and stock market believe most software development companies/verticals are ~25-50% less valuable than they were about a year ago. What do you think, is the restructuring of market dynamics currently underpriced or overblown?
RyanShook··on The Wyden Siren Goes Off Again: We’ll Be “Stunned” By What the NSA Is Doing
Does anyone today think their communication is truly private? Encryption means very little when you hold zero-day exploits and as we’ve seen there are plenty of those.
RyanShook··on MCP server that reduces Claude Code context consumption by 98%
I’m also trying to see which one makes more sense. Discussion about rtk started today: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47189599
RyanShook··on Obsidian Sync now has a headless client
What’s the best way to sync Obsidian without upgrading to their paid tier?
RyanShook··on Addressing Antigravity Bans and Reinstating Access
What I don’t understand about policy violations is why Google never warns the user before banning. A simple alert or email would reduce so much frustration on the part of users and so much overhead for Google.

ToS change frequently and it’s not really fair to assume the user knows what is and is not correct use of tokens.

RyanShook··on Two insider cases we've recently closed
Pretty sure insider trading on prediction markets is a feature not a bug. These cases are laughable compared to the true size of insider trading volume on platforms like Kalshi.
RyanShook··on Statement from Dario Amodei on our discussions with the Department of War
The whole article reads as virtue signaling to me. Anthropic already has large defense contracts. Their models are already being used by the military. There's really no statement here.
RyanShook··on What Claude Code chooses
Bot comment
RyanShook··on Hugging Face Skills
So far my experience with skills is that they slow down or confuse agents unless you as the user understand what the skill actually contains and how it works. In general I would rather install a CLI tool and explain to the agent how I want it used vs. trying to get the agent to use a folder of instructions that I don't really understand what's inside.
RyanShook··on Show HN: An AI voice agent that navigates IVR and negotiates retention discounts
This is awesome, thanks for sharing. Seems especially well suited to phone cancellations but imagine negotiations being somewhat dicey due to commitments required. What model are you using for voice? Do you let the user select gender? Do you provide a summary to the user of the conversation after it’s done?
RyanShook··on Zero-day CSS: CVE-2026-2441 exists in the wild
I always wonder how many zero-days exist on purpose…
RyanShook··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
It definitely feels like Claude is pulling ahead right now. ChatGPT is much more generous with their tokens but Claude's responses are consistently better when using models of the same generation.
RyanShook··on The Uncanny Fluency
Modern AI is very good at generating content that on the surface appears substantive but ends up being almost meaningless.
RyanShook··on Tux.wf Beta 2.0 – Free Short URLs and Sub-Domain Hosting (Community-Driven)
Thanks for sharing. Is your goal to make this a paid service eventually? I ended up doing link shortening via Cloudflare Workers recently but I think Bitly premium would be the direct paid competitor to this?
RyanShook··on 72M Points of Interest
This was great, thank you for sharing.

The dataset claims there are significantly more Citibank locations than McDonalds worldwide which I don’t think can be correct?

It also lists over 56,000 Wildberries worldwide but a quick Google search shows they are a large online retailer. I wonder what is going on with the brand POIs…

RyanShook··on OpenClaw is what Apple intelligence should have been
In terms of useful AI agents, Siri/Apple Intelligence has been behind for so long that no one expects it to be any good.

I used to think this was because they didn’t take AI seriously but my assumption now is that Apple is concerned about security over everything else.

My bet is that Google gets to an actually useful AI assistant before Apple because we know they see it as their chance to pull ahead of Apple in the consumer market, they have the models to do it, and they aren’t overly concerned about user privacy or security.

RyanShook··on Openclaw on Oracle's Free Tier: Always-On AI for $0/Month
Yeah, Oracle’s free tier is much more generous than any other cloud provider. They’ve offered that amount of ram for at least a couple years now but we’ll see.
RyanShook··on Openclaw on Oracle's Free Tier: Always-On AI for $0/Month
Thanks for your feedback. You can run local models on the instance. https://medium.com/@viplav.fauzdar/running-multiple-open-sou...
RyanShook··on A macOS app that blurs your screen when you slouch
Works pretty well, probably too resource heavy to just always keep on. Suggestion: give the user a shortcut key to close the app in case the blur goes haywire on them.
RyanShook··on Show HN: StormWatch – Weather emergency dashboard with prep checklists
My favorite thing about this project is that it's 100% html and you're hosting it for free on GitHub pages. Thanks for sharing! GH repo: https://github.com/jeisey/stormwatch
RyanShook··on Tell HN: Bending Spoons laid off almost everybody at Vimeo yesterday
Vimeo you manage your brand and presentation. YouTube you have little control over where or how your video is presented. Vimeo also provides VOD for some large brands and media companies.
RyanShook··on Fish Shell
Found Fish while looking for the ability to edit commands in a more text-editor style since I frequently need to edit LLM prompts.
RyanShook··on Sega co-founder David Rosen has died
If you’re interested in David Rosen’s story or Sega history in general I highly recommend Console Wars by Blake Harris. https://amzn.to/4q3YaOl
RyanShook··on ManusAI Joins Meta
Definitely feels like a Claude wrapped with a lot of marketing. But you’d think there must be something more if Meta acquired them…

Ok, I guess we’re in a bubble.

RyanShook··on Global Memory Shortage Crisis: Market Analysis
I see this as a competitive opportunity for Apple. If Apple smartphone specs improve while Androids stagnate it could create more iOS users.

The promised AI metaverse is still a long way off and in the meantime people still want the best smartphone.

RyanShook··on Show HN: Turn raw HTML into production-ready images for free
Nice! It definitely makes you wonder when is MCP actually needed vs just giving the LLM API calls to work with.
RyanShook··on Show HN: An easy way of broadcasting radio around you (looking for feedback)
On requirements maybe include “antenna or shielded transmission line”
