Savageman··on Where is all the new, good software?
Could you share the process? You feed some photos/videos and it just works?
Savageman··on Write code like a human will maintain it
I have a meta review command, instructions is more or less: - run the commands /code-review and /simplify in finding mode (read-only, no fix) - run another review command internal to my company

Collect all findings and classify into Blocker/Maybe/Nits.

Very simple, but effective: I like it very much!

Savageman··on Stop the Apple Music app from launching
As a non power of Mac (only recently switched), I'll definitely try this.

My repeated attempts to remove from Dock and hide it all failed: half the time I remove my ear buds the Apple Music pops up in the middle of my screen and auto-enables itself in the Dock...

Savageman··on My adventure in designing API keys
Side note: the slug prefix is not primarily intended for the end-user / developer to figure out which kind of key it is, but for security scanners to detect when they are committed to code / leaked and invalidate them.
Savageman··on Mise: Monorepo Tasks
Could you explain/share quickly how you combine mise and Taskfile?
Savageman··on Which NPM package has the largest version number?
I understood the list is ordered by biggest number, aka 189 > 172 > 161 > 159 > 120
Savageman··on Red Hat Technical Writing Style Guide
Ok I phrased it badly with "better", I wanted to know how they compare.

Your answer is perfect, thank you!

Savageman··on Red Hat Technical Writing Style Guide
I didn't read the article yet. Does anyone know if it's better than the Google one here? [https://developers.google.com/tech-writing/overview]
Savageman··on Marble Blast
Is it normal that when I "turn" the camera stays still? Makes it quite unplayable for me (I tried both "Free camera" enabled/disabled, it didn't change anything)
Savageman··on Graceful Shutdown in Go: Practical Patterns
I wish it would talk about liveness too, I've see several times apps that use the same endpoint for liveness/readiness but it feels wrong.
Savageman··on Docs – Open source alternative to Notion or Outline
Really cool to be able to test this directly, thanks for setting it up.

I found something I would qualify as a bug: if you click on the right of any text, the cursor is placed at the beginning of the line, where I would expect to have it at the end.

Savageman··on Wi-Fi Router at CES 2025 Has a Connectivity Radius of 9.9 Miles
I have 400Mbps at home, I can play online games with 50ms ping and watch 1080p on YouTube, it's enough for most people.
Savageman··on Boardgame.io: an engine for creating turn-based games using JavaScript
Interesting, would you share the link of this post please?
Savageman··on Boardgame.io: an engine for creating turn-based games using JavaScript
How does secret state fit in this? If you want each player hand to be secret, then each player has its own state?
Savageman··on Show HN: HTML-to-Markdown – convert entire websites to Markdown with Golang/CLI
I remember a long time ago I used Pandoc for this.

Fresh tools and more choice is very welcome, thanks for your work!

Savageman··on Self-Documenting Code
This, but move isPasswordValid below if (!isUserValid)
Savageman··on Fun with Go Iterators
I like how the author uses a test to run arbitrary code, this is exactly how I do it too!
Savageman··on Ask HN: Modern Meteor.js Alternative Stack?
Yes v3 is very welcome, v2 only works on outdated Node versions and package compatibility is becoming an issue... It's definitely not a ghost town, but the community feels smaller and pace is a little slow. I'm a bit in the same boat, I found nothing that can replace it.
Savageman··on Ask HN: Modern Meteor.js Alternative Stack?
Just curious, what are the main reasons you want a replacement?
Savageman··on Should I use JWTs for authentication tokens?
Sounds a nice compromise, thanks
Savageman··on Should I use JWTs for authentication tokens?
Maybe it's irrelevant but for JWT to be passed as a Bearer in the header Authentication header, it needs to be accessible from the browser? Aren't httpOnly cookie safer in this regard? Or do we see set the JWT in the cookie too?
Savageman··on 3M executives convinced a scientist forever chemicals in human blood were safe
These 'forever chemicals' are slowly regulated/banned across in many countries. Is anyone aware of some kind of map/data on the subject?
Savageman··on Thinking out loud about 2nd-gen email
The past/quoted reply should be a separate part too. The main part should only contain the new content. Potentially even the signature should be its own part.
Savageman··on TypeSpec: A new language for API-centric development
It must be a new policy, or maybe only for this product (which makes good marketing).

I've used Microsoft Graph to manage emails, and I'd be very surprised if they use if for Outlook...

Savageman··on Bringing Exchange Support to Thunderbird
Can't up-to-date on-premises installs have Graph API enabled?
Savageman··on Difficulty levels of most European languages for Americans
Green is harder and red is easier? Strange choice of colors.
Savageman··on Kobold letters: HTML emails are a risk
In the past I had issues using iframes. Not for rendering or security issue (those work great in my memory). But if your email has a link to your website, and your sandbox iframe disallow Javascript, then this "security context" is carried over to the page that was opened from clicking the link inside the iframe, and you website cannot use JS.

[edit] The solution was "allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox", so I see no reason it would not work.

Savageman··on NATS: First Impressions
I don't know Nats, could you explain briefly how then?
Savageman··on The words you choose within an app are an essential part of its user experience
And then you have to translate it, which also is essential to UX. Reminds of of this 10 years-old article which is still relevant today: https://alistapart.com/article/translation-is-ux/
Savageman··on I was banned because of a security flaw in Facebook’s password recovery system
It's a pain to get something done in case anything decided by "the system" happens...

I've been unable to add my main email address in Facebook because "The account that owns the email address you entered has been disabled.". If I check my emails history, apparently someone named "Kyle" (not me) tried to create/activate an account in 2016 and now I'm prevented to use it... Forever?
