What paid coffee machines? (I was MSFT 2001-2013, I don't think I ever saw this).
Schiendelman··on Claude Opus 5.5 Can Draw Permit-Level Architectural Drawings
This is more the other way around - there are already a couple of companies using AI to submit drawings that link back to previously permitted work, in order to reduce the arbitrary decisions by inspectors by saying "you personally approved this decision in another building on x y z". It's working well.

In the US, local inspectors are kind of like taxi medallion holders. They technically get you where you're going, but the standards are splintered from International Building Code and the whole process makes buildings far less safe than prefab components would be.

You posted lists of hardware, saying Apple hid that list. I showed you they do not.

I added on that they ship security updates much longer than Microsoft (well, for consumer). I've worked on the tech side for both companies - I'm painfully aware of the work both do to keep old OSs running.

I'm not sure I understand - it's been here for years: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102772

Support for security updates appears to be years longer than Microsoft.

The departments they were built from didn't have those either.

Almost all the cabinet level departments has their own Inspector General office since the 70s and 80s.

Homeland Security got one in 2003 with the combination of previous agencies.

The Homeland Security Act of 2002 also let those offices start having their own statutory powers and carry firearms without needing to be deputized by the US Marshals Service.

Sure, if there's anything worth subscribing to, it's that first $1 a month for your critical files.

I guess I'm not tracking. I put all my source folders in my Documents folder on the Mac, and check the checkbox to have that sync to iCloud. It works quite well.

I also do a bunch of video work with Da Vinci Resolve, and those project files are in the same folder. I don't keep the clips there, those are on an external disc, but that's just because I haven't gone from the two terabyte iCloud plan to the six terabyte plan.

Don't they have pretty much the best track record of any manufacturer in the last decade?

I haven't had good outcomes from letting the agent decide what to do, but if you spend time deciding what tasks to add to your backlog, then how to accomplish those tasks, when you're awake, you can end up with five or six or more projects to let your agent do overnight. planning when you're awake, execution when you're not.

That's for the base model M6. The Pro can take more, the Max even more, the Ultra the most.

They're not making those models for the M6 though; they rerouted their resources to making M7 faster at running local LLMs.

If you want more bandwidth, get an M5 Pro, Max, or Ultra. If you want a lower power base model, get the M6. If you want to have your cake and eat it too, wait for the M7, reportedly in the spring.

Schiendelman··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
It is labor. It's code. The amount of labor required to do an installation to code in the US is easily 50% more, if not more than that. Australia also has standardized streamlined racking that works on much higher percentage of roofs, the US has a lot more custom construction.

I've now seen farmers replacing diesel trucks with Rivian trucks. A lot of them are starting to get it, and the Republicans are losing them as a result.
Schiendelman··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
In addition to the fact that it doesn't really work better for that either, it's just not as safe as lithium iron phosphate.
Schiendelman··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
Honestly, it's not even doing that. Thing that would really push the US ahead would be the tax breaks we had until a couple years ago.

Vehicle pricing is entirely a market decision, and targets a certain profit margin. You will absolutely have less profit margin on something where you believe you can make up that revenue on a subscription.

Right, that's because of the political system you guys created with local councils. There's a reason it's worse there than even in the United States.

I think you misunderstand - they can charge slightly less for the car, and not actually charge you for that bit of hardware, if they're monetizing it differently.

That's a really great point, and you can often start with documenting current behavior with tests and then carefully going through to figure out what bugs you've just enshrined in test cases…

And more than anything, it doesn't take away the trade-offs of what to build to deliver value for customers, what to make the business improve, what avoids paging you on a vacation.
