Sin2x··on Help seed Z-Library on IPFS
You can just renice/set Low priority to the process for the CPU part, no need for Docker. Bandwidth limiting functionality should be built-in, not sure if it actually is.
Sin2x··on Fed increases target rate to 3.75-4.00%
If it wasn't a problem, Biden wouldn't tour Iran, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to get their oil and wouldn't open the national reserve. Nations literally live and die by the oil.
Sin2x··on Fed increases target rate to 3.75-4.00%
It's not gone but -35% YoY certainly doesn't look good. Especially when it's the 'better' medium-sore oil that is getting depleted faster:

Sin2x··on Fed increases target rate to 3.75-4.00%
There is a lag.
Sin2x··on Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover
I'm saying that censorship is ingrained in the Mastodon culture and is considered normal and necessary. Considering that Pleroma is also technically superior, I don't understand why one would prefer Mastodon over it, except popularity which is not a merit.
Sin2x··on Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover
You are literally one search query away from it making sense:

http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2737/FP_6.pdf

There was a huge uproar about it a couple of years back.

EDIT:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mastodon/comments/jkiw1y/can_someon...

Gab was "banned" in that the vast majority of instances blocked it and blocked any other instance that didn't do the same.

If that's not censorship, I don't know what is. You can have your sandbox but you can't play with others unless you accept their censorship rules and politics.

Sin2x··on A Tour of C++ (Third edition)
You're right. Apparently, it's supported only by MSVC at the moment (Standard Library Modules): https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/compiler_support

Sin2x··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
They should rename it to just Tube without You to better reflect the reality.
Sin2x··on New ScyllaDB Go Driver: Faster Than GoCQL and Its Rust Counterpart
Thanks, for some reason I thought they aim at comparable usecases.
Sin2x··on New ScyllaDB Go Driver: Faster Than GoCQL and Its Rust Counterpart
How does it compare to Clickhouse regarding speed?
Sin2x··on A study of lights at night suggests dictators lie about economic growth
People and industries do not generally operate at nighttime, especially in more conservative societies. How exactly could this be an indicator of economic efficiency?
Sin2x··on Why read Dostoevsky? A programmer's perspective
Is the crime of desperation really a crime?...
Sin2x··on Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World
Fifties and sixties weren't really collectivist (neither was any time except for the war communism of 1918-1921 for that matter). Individual citizens had private property.
Sin2x··on Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World
That quote is very much taken out of the context...

Sin2x··on Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World
Well, it was actually written after the revolution and the so-called "War communism" phase of the 1918-1921 Russia. To me it's more of a study on how the collectivist "paradise" would work after it works out its growing pains.
Sin2x··on Reading Soviet Sci-Fi at the End of the World
Not exactly Soviet but "We" fits well here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_(novel)

The font looks atrocious without enabling antialising (which I abhor). Compare the headlines text with the menu bar image at the top left of the page: https://i.imgur.com/0MDGYpn.png

Sin2x··on Explaining modern server monitoring stacks for self-hosting
You already need to deal with 3 things as opposed to one and learn PromQL to boot. If you want to have dashboards you also need to learn and use Grafana. I used both Prometheus+Thanos+Grafana stack and Zabbix in production and can say with certainty that the latter is much easier to use and set up for infra monitoring than the former. You need a whole dedicated observability team to use Prometheus effeciently.
Sin2x··on Explaining modern server monitoring stacks for self-hosting
Prometheus and other modern application monitoring oriented timeseries solution stacks seem to be an overkill for simple server infrastructure monitoring, Zabbix is easier to setup and use and has all the batteries included.
Sin2x··on Teaching C (2016)
Since 2020 there was a new good book on C from Robert Seacord from the C Standards committee: https://nostarch.com/Effective_C
Sin2x··on Lazarus IDE – write once, compile anywhere
Take a look at wxWidgets, it uses GTK3 for Linux by default.
Sin2x··on Winamp 5.9
Milkdrop not fully fixed, I'll wait for 5.9.1
Sin2x··on Stoicism is not enough
More of a nihilism and anomie IMO aside from the usual cult of the golden calf which is not philosophical in nature.
Sin2x··on Half of Japan's LDP lawmakers had ties with Unification Church
This speed implies they knew about the state of affairs a long time ago but couldn't speak then, so that's not much of a credit to the country.
