Smar··on The EU still wants to scan your private messages and photos
So EU syill wants to harm children.
Smar··on Full Disclosure: A Third (and Fourth) Azure Sign-In Log Bypass Found
I thought they want to fix these by adding a A4 sheet with text "Do not break!". Surely people won't just walk in, when asked nicely. At least any nice, law abiding people. I guess others are envouraged to walk in, then.
Smar··on AI should not replace people at Atlassian, says CEO
If a thrown-together-quickly-with-left-foot tool is more or less as good as Atlassian's products, I wonder why they have been used in first place. Surely it can't be quality of the products. Nor price, as there are existing (even open source) alternatives that do the job well enough.
Smar··on Online age-verification tools for child safety are surveilling adults
Even if they didn't track all possible details of current adults, they would contain the details of future adults.

But maybe this is yet another attemption to produce mindless factory workers who won't rise against their lords even if someone inserts something something to them. While recording it, of course. For the profit... Erm, science.

Smar··on War prediction markets are a national-security threat
Maybe the employees are only copying their leaders.
Smar··on Father claims Google's AI product fuelled son's delusional spiral
Or brainwashing possibilities in general.
Smar··on Native FreeBSD Kerberos/LDAP with FreeIPA/IDM
LDAP Kerberos 5 SSSD is pretty easy to configure and more or less maintenance free for a small set of servers and users. By my personal experience.

The costs usually come from complexity: every new user needs its credentials, guidance to services and help in error situations. New services need to be integrated to existing systems. But those won't go away, be the system anything.

Smar··on 'Right-to-Compute' Laws May Be Coming to Your State This Year
And scary. Really scary.
Smar··on CISA’s acting head uploaded sensitive files into public version of ChatGPT
This is the real risk I think. Currently there are no means to even pretend to get anything deleted from LLMs either.
Smar··on Why 451 Is Good for You – Greylisting Perspectives from the Early Noughties
Fitting to the times.
Smar··on The future of software development is software developers
English is poor language in terms of preciseness - and even worse in terms of impreciseness.

Sometimes it looks like about anything else would be better as a programming interface.

Smar··on Microsoft Copilot AI Comes to LG TVs, and Can't Be Deleted
It should at least do its core function: collect data.
Smar··on 10 years of writing a blog nobody reads
I think it is not redundant - it gives emphasis for a guess, to make sure reader won't mix it up with other things that may be verified to be truthy.
Smar··on Why did Crunchyroll's subtitles just get worse?
Why is this getting pushed up so fiercely? It seems all of the issues are for dubs and their closed captions. CC users are a very minor target group. Deaf can just use proper subs.

I have seen no issues in regular subs, and they look like they always have looked.

Smar··on Microsoft 365 Copilot's commercial failure
Realists, not paranoid. The threats are very real, and even very probable at this stage.
Smar··on Irssi: IRC client in a Docker image
Containers are not the best option for security. VMs and/or a MAC are better.
Smar··on Microsoft refuses to divulge data flows to Police Scotland
Elder brother is again showing the way to younger brother.
Smar··on Censorship is quietly deciding which games you can buy
I guess someone is trying to maintain their control...
Smar··on YouTube rolls out age-estimation tech to identify US teens
Google probably has enough pictures taken with the person's phone's camera and recordings taken with the phone's micrphone, along with all other standard data sources like browsing history, searches and so on. There also likely are similar recordings from friends, allowing to properly profile them, with their respective positions in their networks.

So I think they can do it pretty accurately.

Smar··on Babies made using three people's DNA are born free of mitochondrial disease
Lies, I haven't talked with anyone yesterday.
Smar··on Mill: A better build tool for Java, Scala, and Kotlin
Often CI results are not put to use immediately, making build time irrelevant.
Smar··on Copilot Chat in VS Code is now open source
That sounds about right.
Smar··on Microsoft is blocking Google Chrome through its family safety feature
They probably inserted their old plans to a LLM, in hopes of something new.
Smar··on Menstrual tracking app data is gold mine for advertisers that risks women safety
There cpuld be harmful substance tax, akin to alcohol.
Smar··on My sourdough starter has twins
I had thought rye was used for sourdough starter outside of Finland also.

Rye based starter can be used for wheat bread without problems, but it may make sense to feed it some wheat beforehand.

Also if you can find Finnish (== white colored) rye flour, consider baking some sourdough Finnish rye bread.

Smar··on Firefox tab groups are here
Maybe browsers should be wholly rewritten in Javascript to give a modern refresh ...wait.
Smar··on Shortest-possible walking tour to 81,998 bars in South Korea
Isn't comma the decimal separator ;)
Smar··on An image of an archeologist adventurer who wears a hat and uses a bullwhip
I guess country of residence has a lot of relevance here...
Smar··on Show HN: LinkedIn sucks, so I built a better one
Good thing then that this is a LinkedIn replacement ;)
Smar··on The role of developer skills in agentic coding
I wonder how much more common vulnerabilities will be in coming years...
