Snoozus··on Goldman Says Hedge Funds Had Worst July vs. S&P 500 in 20 Years
The Schadenfreude is fine, but maybe they are smarter than the S&P and have bet against some hypes, just a little early?
Snoozus··on Melatonin impairs morning cognition in healthy young adults (2023)
There is a world where melatonin is not worth it in the short run, but the result flips after a few days of sleep deprivation in the control group.
Snoozus··on Ask HN: Why are US tech workers so pro open borders?
There could be a border, where the law and currency change. But people could still be free to cross that border.

I don't know what you mean with the russia/Ukraine thing, bringing a tank over the border would obviously be illegal in either legal system.

Snoozus··on Tesla allegedly in autopilot mode crashes into Texas house, woman killed
Here is a video from the youtube channel Better Biomed, from the scene, apparently it was his house: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L_8x-Y0jqg
Snoozus··on SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B
because your paycheck comes only one day per month, so that estimate would bee too high by a factor of 30
Snoozus··on Bitcoin miners are losing on every coin produced as difficulty drops
If everyone stopped mining transactions couldn't go through anymore and the value of bitcoin would drop. If you're heavily invested in bitcoin that's bad. Also miners try to squeeze in their preferred transactions which they can't do when they're not mining. Finally the costs dont drop to zero when you turn the miners off, so the loss from mining might be less than the loss when not mining.
Snoozus··on A Crazy Expensive U.S. Drone Just Disappeared over Strait of Hormuz
This calculation is a bit naive, you should at least take into account the capabilities and crew training and operation cost. That's before you start thinking about the cost of crew rescue missions. It seems to fly way higher than the poseidon, so I guess it covers more ground as well.
Snoozus··on Microsoft terminates VeraCrypt account, halting Windows updates
The boot verification code wasn't replaced, because it sits in the encrypted partition.
Snoozus··on No "New Deal" for OpenAI
Are 18 dollar virgin negronis a thing? I love these obscure bits of cultural information. Does anyone know of a resource that lists more?
Snoozus··on Iran Is Not Blocking the Strait of Hormuz. It's Running a Toll Booth
Is this a human writing in the style of LLMs?

The exemption is diplomatic, not commercial.

The Yuan Dimension

I hate it.

Snoozus··on Nitrile and latex gloves may cause overestimation of microplastics
You would, but if you do studies that claim that microplastics accumulate in our bodies or even in out brains it makes a difference.
Snoozus··on iPhone 17 Pro Demonstrated Running a 400B LLM
Unfortunately no, experts are typically switched out for every token. The way I understand it the idea was something like having each expert be good at one kind of task, but that's not how it panned out after training.
Snoozus··on CXMT has been offering DDR4 chips at about half the prevailing market rate
Exactly, there are no losers here, everyone gets lunch.
Snoozus··on CXMT has been offering DDR4 chips at about half the prevailing market rate
Would you build a fab that costs billions and takes years to start production because of a bubble?
Snoozus··on Interference Pattern Formed in a Finger Gap Is Not Single Slit Diffraction
-I do see it on the edge of a single finger.

-I agree, also I can only observe the effect when focusing on the gap

-sure, but weirdly the effect has to be wavelength dependent, but there are no color fringes.

I think this is something else, but haven't figured it out yet.

Snoozus··on How often do full-body MRIs find cancer?
That's not the case. Most of these wouldn't kill you. Many of those that would kill you would be spotted in time anyways.

And the few that would kill you and would otherwise not be noticed are so rare that the risk of the procedures on the others is considered higher.

Snoozus··on How often do full-body MRIs find cancer?
No, you still wouldn't, because doctors are neither free nor perfectly rational.

The probability of finding something worth a biopsy is not low, it is high compared to the probability of the patient requiring intervention.

Snoozus··on How often do full-body MRIs find cancer?
It is not only money, machines and doctors are also a limited resource.

The other bit is that no one follows your protocol, everyone looks at the scans, finds reasons to worry. Then you have the choice between unnecessary biopsies and psychological stress.

Snoozus··on Recreating Epstein PDFs from raw encoded attachments
this one has a better font, might be a simple copy&paste job
Snoozus··on Recreating Epstein PDFs from raw encoded attachments
this would not have helped here
Snoozus··on Data centers in space makes no sense
This only makes sense if it somehow helps to evade some kind of regulation. I'm not quite sure which though.
Snoozus··on US has investigated claims WhatsApp chats aren't private
Absolutly, they intentionally make stuff sound secure and private while keeping full access.
Snoozus··on US has investigated claims WhatsApp chats aren't private
Is there an independent audit of the Whatsapp client and of the servers?
Snoozus··on US has investigated claims WhatsApp chats aren't private
I find this wording also "a bit strange".

It is not a mathematical impossibility in any way.

For example they might be able to read the backups, the keys might be somehow (accidentaly or not) leaked...

And then the part about Telegram not having end2end encryption? What's this all about?

Snoozus··on Two days of oatmeal reduce cholesterol level
the diet was just maintained for two days
Snoozus··on Oneplus phone update introduces hardware anti-rollback
thank you for this, I have a follow up question: Now an attacker can not install an old, vulnerable version. But couldn't they just install a new, vulnerable version? Is there something that enforces encryption key deletion in one case and not the other?
Snoozus··on BirdyChat becomes first European chat app that is interoperable with WhatsApp
On the main page it states clearly that messages are e2e encrypted. So all they can collect is metadata.
Snoozus··on Average DRAM price in USD over last 18 months
I agree, most websites allow complex flows. But I suspect, that most loads don't ever touch those. There is probably an automated way to deliver just a flat page, and maybe even allow for the top 5 interactions without loading all the frameworks and libraries.
Snoozus··on Average DRAM price in USD over last 18 months
Maybe it's time we make a simple web page 100KB again? Is there some kind of CDN minification, adblocking and compression service? Maybe even server side rendering of websites?

Then a smartphone would work fine with 1GB of RAM and everyone could be happy.

Snoozus··on YASA beats own power density record pushing electric motor to 59kW/kg benchmark
I suspect they correctly simulated everything. Then on the test stand they turned the dial to 11 and saw a number higher than the simulations. Probably not reliable at that power level, but fine for a record announcement.
