SomeHacker44··on Toxic experts (2017)
I may be one of the folks who work at a FANNG company, but honestly I have seen almost none of this in my years there. On the contrary, I have seen mostly experts who are thoughtful, bright and open to sharing their knowledge and experience. Some can improve interpersonal skills, but so could the populace at large. I have seen more, nicer, smarter and engaging people here than almost any other genre of business I have worked at, e.g. Wall Street, tech startups, etc.
SomeHacker44··on Ghostty 1.4
Thank you for Konsole. It is my daily driver and works well on KDE 6.8 for me. I use unlimited scrollback. It would be neat if it could have an unlimited scrollback that instead of using 15G RAM after a few weeks will dump it to disk and load on demand. And not hang if I hit C-S-F... I use it with tmux sometimes and agents.
SomeHacker44··on The insider trading you're allowed to do
Headline is misleading. It does not talk about trading securities at all. Not worth a read if you actually were interested in the headline.

Better headline: Using Insider Information to Advance (Save?) Your Career.

SomeHacker44··on Meta’s new commercial terms will allow the scraping of news sites: experts
I am not a lawyer, but I can't see how any court would enforce this unconscionable term in a clickwrap license.
SomeHacker44··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
I have 2x R9700 and 192G RAM on a computer and would like to run this!
SomeHacker44··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
What do people do if you are on the $200 Claude plan and hit your limit mid-week? This does not happen often but happened to me this week after going from $29 to $100 to $200 last week. Do you get a Codex sub? A second Claude account? How do you deal with continuity.
SomeHacker44··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
Not a law. A regulation. If it were a law, it would have required Congress to change. Not that that would likely have stopped this administration.
SomeHacker44··on Trump promises $5k payout to U.S. adults if Republicans win election
Good way to spend $1.3T that this party of fiscal responsibility doesn't have.
SomeHacker44··on Speculative Decoding in vLLM on AMD GPUs
Please share what operating system and model runtime you use? I have two and don't get close to that with AMD's own Lemonade. Thanks!
SomeHacker44··on Htmx 4.0
Shame the page does not tell you what HTMX is, even in one sentence.
SomeHacker44··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
Antigravity (at least Antigravity CLI which I use) is the CLI coding (?) agent harness from Google that uses Gemini as the model. There are other models available but I haven't tried them.
SomeHacker44··on Everything I own, owned
In this case, get an ancient VAXstation running with VAX LISP so I could port my Z-machine interpreter from CLOS to their CLtL flavors implementation and try to get Zork and other games running on it. But goodness forbid you ask Claude for help with 35 year old software without hitting their guardrails.
SomeHacker44··on Don't Make Fun of Renowned Dan Brown
Pretty funny. 2013 though.
SomeHacker44··on The Amazon tax
I have noticed that too!! I order something, they take 3-5 days to ship, it arrives in 1-2 days after that. Why not just ship it straight away? Shouldn't AmazonPrime be sued for fraudulence?
SomeHacker44··on AI Chip Architectures
I didn't believe it till I tried to read it. Insane. Impossible to read.
SomeHacker44··on Everything I own, owned
Surprising. I have hit its BS guardrails a lot lately, working on my vintage computers from the 80s and early 90s. Just about done with Claude.
SomeHacker44··on A week of using Codex more than Claude
Sorry, what does "everyone is sleeping on it" mean?
SomeHacker44··on The A.I. In Google's New Pixel 11 Is Not Helpful
I have a Flip 7 and did the opposite - turned off all Samsung stuff. Maybe that was wrong? Can you give some concrete examples of useful Samsung AI stuff please?
SomeHacker44··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
I use Claude and Antigravity CLI as an (Arch) Linux desktop system administrator a lot lately. Is Codex useful for that too?
SomeHacker44··on I used to be excited about new tech, but I rarely am anymore
Which e-piano please?
SomeHacker44··on The Amazon tax
I have a place in upstate NY, near the vermont/canada border. I have prime. The best shipping they usually do is a week. Nigh useless.

Best Buy, Microcenter, B&H, Walmart all do better. They just don't have the range or sometimes do not respect my tax forms.

I am an hour drive from a larger town with a big box store like Walmart. The Best Buy closed. The closest thing nearby is something called Tractor Supply. They put out a big sign each year saying "We Have Chicks!!!" which means they have baby chickens, ducks and turkeys. They are super cute.

SomeHacker44··on Taxpayers Funded a $533M Artillery Plant That Made Nothing
I saw this movie. Schindler's List, was it? History really does repeat itself.
SomeHacker44··on Crown 0.64 – Native and cross-platform game engine
Can't tell a darn thing from the linked page or the home page. What language? What platforms? Either I'm really dumb or the page is incomprehensibly designed with no actionable information.
SomeHacker44··on Chicken Scheme 6.0
How would it be for a 2D game?
SomeHacker44··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 Intelligence, Performance and Price Analysis
> DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 (Reasoning, Max Effort) is amongst the leading models in intelligence and well priced when comparing to other models of similar price.

Similar price? Doesn't make sense. Maybe they meant power, capability or speed?

SomeHacker44··on OpenJDK Interim Policy on Generative AI
Seems short sighted for an interim policy, to me. Why not just require clear and detailed disclosure of the use of said tools, to generate data for which to make a properly informed non interim decision?
SomeHacker44··on So what is your programming setup? Hype is making fundamentals confusing
VS Code, with typical extensions for the langauge in use but no AI integration

Git

Antigravity CLI or Claude CLI

Whatever support is needed (JVM, CLR, etc.)

Arch Linux or rarely Windows 11

SomeHacker44··on The Visual 6502
Agree. I would pay for it.
SomeHacker44··on Learn OpenGL, extensive tutorial resource for learning Modern OpenGL
Any recommendations on how to use OpenGL from the CLR (.Net/C#) please?
SomeHacker44··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
Yes! 100x this. I do this all the time with my print technical books.
