SubiculumCode··on Gone but Not Forgotten: Recovering the Dead Web
The research reports can be useful where there is a lot of information, but they'll straight up couch the lack of information with phrases like "emerging trends" while rephrasing a hypothesis as evidence.
SubiculumCode··on Gone but Not Forgotten: Recovering the Dead Web
Vanishing culture is the default, and not just on the internet, but for all time.

Moreover, as this War on the Rocks podcast shows, all levels of drones are being integrated.

SubiculumCode··on The circuit that lets your brain think and see
Independent of the research itself, the article makes it seem as if neuroscientist are just discovering the deep recursion all the way back to V1. The idea that this was a one way stream of information processing was discarded a long time ago. Those back projections probably serve lots of functions, but we can be pretty sure they are there to let current context bias the weights for quicker recognition and reaction...e.g. if your context includes snakes, your visual system will attune to recognizing snakes even faster.

Why make this u.s. centric? You think China served models would be different?
SubiculumCode··on Fable 5 is Back
Who is us? Personally, I live in the U.S. so...
SubiculumCode··on Fable 5 is Back
No,it's not just like world trade. It's world trade within strategic good, assets, and, capabilities relevant to national security...e.g. critical minerals, high end chips, and artificial intelligence, and others. Not all world trade is as central to national security, and is only relevant to national security in aggregate. I do agree that the U.S. made bad choices in terms of over-reliance on Chinese supply chains. Too much credence was given to the idea that capitalism would democratize China in the absence of other supporting factors/culture.
SubiculumCode··on Fable 5 is Back
Personally, I think it is manufactured outrage by those with an agenda.
SubiculumCode··on Fable 5 is Back
So... it IS China, not just companies in China. And why would the CCP want to give out open weights, hmm? Because they are all kindness and love? No. It is just their approach to counter dominance in the space by Western frontier labs. No need to make moral attributions..it is everything, and I mean everything, about Great Power Competition.

Were these open reviews? Many times they are blinded, so unless they revealed their identity, you would not know.

SubiculumCode··on Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
It's Russia and the US and EU have long been under attack.

Well open ai sure spends a lot on marketing.
SubiculumCode··on Claude Science
Connecting AI directly to the data sources (instead of just asking it to provide code that I run locally for myself) can get quite complicated in terms of meeting institutional policy, applicable law, data access-storage requirements (e.g. NIH data repositories), and can require legal agreements between institutions and the AI provider.

I cannot touch. At least not yet.

1st, this technique is not fraud, and fraud is a separate accusation. 2nd, paying customers can legally and legitimately be banned and monitored for breaking terms of service, which probably includes things like using the model against U.S. export restrictions.
SubiculumCode··on Claude Code is steganographically marking requests
Would it be legally questionable, or actually complying with U.S. export law?

Not to mention, it isn't that hard for vendor's to require updated code to run the product. Vendors do this all the time.
SubiculumCode··on A way to exclude sensitive files issue still open for OpenAI Codex
thanks. I will check that out, I'm also checking out smolvm. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish my modest needs versus what might be needed at a corporate infrastructure level for coding or agent orchestration.

I'm just writing scripts for neuroimaging analysis, etc, and want to ensure codex etc doesn't read my sqlite db or csvs, and send my research data to the inference provider...

Are people using these and interacting with the agent via terminal, or are there fuller cli interfaces, or integrations?

What is your sandbox approach? Any good guides? Something about asking a LLM for advice on how to sandbox LLMs.....

So how might I restrict the read paths if I am running codex as a plugin in vscode?
SubiculumCode··on America's Large Homebuilders Shift the Cost of Shoddy Construction to Buyers
Old growth wood is denser and stronger than new growth wood. Once we stopped cutting down old forests for lumber (generally a good thing), wood became a bit shit.

This is true. Luckily my house has gone through a lot of rewiring prior, but yes there are definitely issues to watch out for.

SubiculumCode··on America's Large Homebuilders Shift the Cost of Shoddy Construction to Buyers
I bought a home a few years ago. We chose an older 1940's wood home near downtown in a California town. Its solid. Meanwhile, friends of ours have bought newly constructed homes with all the modern features, and the horror stories they have...

First, I eat...but seem to get full fast. Its like before, my body would really delay sending me the "you're full now" signal while eating, but now it starts to come half way through my plate. But did I enjoy the food? Hell yeah. It might even taste better. And because I get full quicker, I eat slower so I can enjoy it more.

Outside of eating, I drink less, but do have occasional beers. I enjoy them.

And my relationships are not less fulfilling, and I don't find my life and work less interesting. All in all, the only thing I don't like is the occasional "egg" burps I get from it.
