TalGalili··on Speeding up R code using a just-in-time (JIT) compiler
Thank you for the pointer vgnet, I didn't know about that project...

TalGalili··on An R programmer looks at Julia
One thing is probably the huge number of statistical packages it has (see: http://cran.r-project.org/web/views/), including (static) graphics (e.g: ggplot2, lattice, and just the base graphics).

Hi chubot,

Two things:

1) A data.frame is in fact a list of vectors of the same length "compacted" together.

2) I find the types very "sensible" for a person doing statistics. But I guess (almost) everything makes sense once you get used to it...

Hi chimeracoder, I am very curious to better understand how you find python better for the data pre-processing stage. I use only R, and would love to know what "I am missing" here. Any simple example will also make it easier to understand.

Thanks!

Thank you.
TalGalili··on How the R-project is taking over statistical analysis software
True, Though if you need to run a rare or uncommon stat procedure, SAS is not likely to have it in the core, and then you are back to using what "some grad student wrote".
TalGalili··on How much of R is written in R?
In what metric? The GUI of SPSS is better then R (which doesn't have a GUI, though interesting competitors are available like Rcmdr and Deducer). In terms of everything else (performance, graphics, statistical tools, programming language), then from what I understand - R is the winner without a doubt...

Go ahead... :)
TalGalili··on RStudio,a new IDE for R
Also notice there are other non-open-source alternatives such as the IDE of Revolution.

I am very happy to see the way this is turning out...

TalGalili··on Top 14 R posts of 2010 (from over 140 R blogs)
Thank you :)
TalGalili··on 100 Prisoners, 100 lines of code
wow... Thanks for pointing this out.
TalGalili··on Visual R
Have a look at deducer, probably the best R GUI out there:

TalGalili··on The future of R - pessimistic thoughts by R founder Ross Ihaka
BTW, that was my motivation for starting the www.r-bloggers.com website. It now has over 110 bloggers (who write about R) there. When I started and looked for them on google, all I could find was bloggers who wrote about pirates :D
TalGalili··on Did StackOverFlow just lose it to MetaOptimize? And is it good or bad?
I am not sure how to do that. I'll look into it in the near future. Thanks again!
TalGalili··on Did StackOverFlow just lose it to MetaOptimize? And is it good or bad?
I also wonder when will they incorporate more "social network" features into SO. I feel how it is needed...

I get what you are saying. I do wonder if they ever responded to that...
TalGalili··on Did StackOverFlow just lose it to MetaOptimize? And is it good or bad?
Thanks, you are the first to note me to that. I fixed it (hit SHIFT+refresh if you don't see the update).
