TingPing··on Show HN: Auto Dismiss Mac OS "Allow <app> to find devices on local networks?"
The malicious use is tracking. It can track who you know, where you live, what you own.

TingPing··on Apple's new 'Switch to Safari' campaign details why you should ditch Chrome
I think what you are discussing is the move to only supporting declarative block lists. Long ago in Safari, and until very recently in Chrome, you could have JavaScript run to check and modify/block requests. The modern block lists still function the same (preventing a Request from ever being sent) just without dynamic code in the loop.

TingPing··on Court agrees with EFF: Utah's VPN law demands a technical impossibility
ECH replaced what was called ESNI. Just was an evolving standard but it’s widely supported at this point, just rarely used.
TingPing··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
Not OP but I don’t think DoQ is very interesting. DoH is nice because it blends in with HTTPS. Both do the protocol level things to avoid connection handshakes. The HTTP overhead isn’t that much really.

DoT is more complex than you’d imagine because it has to try hard to implement its own solutions to avoid handshakes.

TingPing··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Standard webkit content blocking, so it will filter requests and hide elements.
TingPing··on Fastpotify

TingPing··on LG ThinQ Terms of Use
Well in the TV space they have monopolies on oleds.
TingPing··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
I specifically take a timed release melatonin, really improved my sleep. Otherwise I did have inconsistent sleep on regular melatonin.

The chain of trust always has a software layer. I don’t believe what you want is possible.

I find the bank talking point strange, why are they special, are they even targeted more. It just feels like a boogeyman “think of your money!”

Those issues are typically from the decoding libraries you choose. Which could even be ffmpeg if you wish. GStreamer just provides a nice high level API.

They can’t modify webkit on ios. They also don’t appear to contribute upstream. So it’s just not supported.

TingPing··on Firefox Merges Support for Vulkan Video Decoding
It doesn’t mean anything for desktop users, it’s just a new standard that could have wider support than VAAPI since it’s part of Vulkan. Mostly embedded devices lacking VAAPI support today, though nvidia requires a third party implementation so this might improve that situation.
TingPing··on Dav2d
Youtube artificially limits the resolution, on mine if you cast the exact same video it doesn’t impose that limit and works fine.
