Torai··on Coinbase reportedly gets approval from US regulators for tokenized securities
I ask cause ignorance. So, thanks.

But motivated by the fact that I always thought Bitcoin being so scarce, if mass adopted, some sort of Bitcoin lending scheme named as some new thing, would be created

Torai··on Coinbase reportedly gets approval from US regulators for tokenized securities
Well, this is funny.

I ask:

Are Tokenized Securities like lending? Are there any sort of borrowing interests?

Cause I haven't read the Bible (neither I'm religious), just googled it. But, isn't this like the beginning of a new economy? Are you a_d like the bad guys in the Bible fiction? Is 2000 years some universal cycle period time?

https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-lending-money.html

A lot of people is going to lose a lot of money with this new betting game. Big Crypto holders will continue keeping their cryptos.

Well, it's going to be funny as hell to watch it.

But remember:

- Angry people might eventually go after yourselves, violently, once they lose all their savings.

Not me, I will be partying in Mallorca next week, with local friends. Spending money earned the classic way: WORKING.

Torai··on California law requires businesses to let you cancel your subscription online
It was about time. Anyway, the subscription model is kind of a shitty model for things that are not like Netflix, Spotify or some good designed SaaS.

I mean all that entrepreneur wannabes that copy to "Box of X every month" or "A simple SaaS that took me 5K to hire a freelance to do it but I have a niche" model. Please forget about it. I just want a handful of good subscription services in my life. Because I tend to forget I'm paying them.

Torai··on How Snow Leopard became synonymous with reliability
With marketing, cultism and people who has to somehow auto convince themselves and others about the reasons they have to pay more for the same thing PC owners have?

Are companies/people using Windows or Linux feeling less reliability? And more importantly, do they get to do work faster or not?

Torai··on Show HN: Hacker News job trends
Well. Expecting an article about job trends, with good old text and maybe some new cool info-graphics, and after clicking the link discovering a file/archive directory first and them some vintage looking graphics... is weird.
Torai··on Mark Zuckerberg and his empire of oily rags
Yeah. He is right. Anyway, thank you. I couldn't read an article so long to communicate so little, so I just went into the comments here. Thanks again.

Not that I mind. We have a wonderful and cool life here. So maybe it's better to be ignored. But we have an ancient language and culture. Just saying.

Or just have managers with engineering experience. Just saying. Cause it seems pretty straightforward to me.
Torai··on Keep your Identity Small (2009)
Most people reading this will already be fairly tolerant

I'm fairly intolerant Paul, with the things I deem wrong.

And first thing is, why the fuck are listening to you about Politics and Religion. What is your experience on those area so you can enlighten us. In which forums (nowadays they are called chat groups) have you debated hard, holding your ground. And how many people have you convinced on 1 vs 1 ideological battles.

I'm tired of false prophets. And I get this Paul guy is someone related to the world of software. But someone should steal him the mic when he starts talking about topics he is not experienced enough.

People need to keep their Identity BIG. But they need to realize about the bad things in their cultural heritage, keeping only the good things and erasing or transforming the bad ones. It's simple.

But Paul, if you don't know about how to convince people that is opposing your views then please don't try to make magic 1 liner recipes for everyone. Cause people is dumb, and many of them will blindly follow your command without fully understanding it. The same thing as with Agile methodology and other abstractions (10 commandments for example) that come from many years expertise of one guy with much wisdom, but that at the end, people blindly follow without making them think or test it to see if it's right.

Identity=Ego

And here we have 2009 Paul Graham, with an ego as big as it gets, telling other people not to have an strong ego. So he is denying others the tool that makes individuals be certain about their ideas and possibilities. He is denying others their right to grow.

Torai··on In an Era of ‘Smart’ Things, Sometimes Dumb Stuff Is Better
I never said "all smart devices". I was obviously implying some smart devices for some use-cases. A bluetooth connected water bottle is well executed, but poorly ideated.

Torai··on What are we going to do with quantum computers?
Serious quantum computers ARE FINALLY HERE

That would involve both the hardware and software is ready for production and use.

So it's my thing or is it MIT Technology Review writers who are misleading common people into thinking quantum computing will be usable in a couple of years?

Torai··on How San Francisco's Progressive Politics Led to Its Housing Affordability Crisis
Move out. US is big.

You want to have house affordability when sharing a city with people that make money from house price speculation and, maybe, have some influence of city's politics?

Then propose to regulate house prices. Establish some maximum. Oh, but you don't like it cause it would go against "free market rules"? Then stop moaning. In a free market the most powerful dominate.

So give up on that battle and move out.

Torai··on In an Era of ‘Smart’ Things, Sometimes Dumb Stuff Is Better
I love how "techie" people needs nurturing to realize what makes sense and what not. So 2 years later, they realize what other people know the moment they hear about some product.

Something Silicon Valley engineers do. They invent silly things just cause they know how to code bluetooth communications. Like a water bottle that measures how much you are drinking during the day for example.

But hey, it's not their fault. It's hacker news fault. Didn't you spend years telling them "Ideas are worth zero. Execution is king". Now you have highly productive dumb people you helped creating.

I divide my officers into four groups. There are clever, diligent, stupid, and lazy officers. Usually two characteristics are combined. Some are clever and diligent -- their place is the General Staff. The next lot are stupid and lazy -- they make up 90 percent of every army and are suited to routine duties. Anyone who is both clever and lazy is qualified for the highest leadership duties, because he possesses the intellectual clarity and the composure necessary for difficult decisions. One must beware of anyone who is stupid and diligent -- he must not be entrusted with any responsibility because he will always cause only mischief.

Torai··on $3 Trillion in Forgotten Debt
Debt is a tool. It can be forgotten or demanded. It's the leverage a few exert upon the world.
Torai··on Startup Ideas
No, cause:

- The concept fails. People is not giving you money for no service.

- Your answer lacks the creativity required for a person with good ideas.

Torai··on Startup Ideas
"Ideas" is a broad concept. Those are not product definitions explaining it's characteristics, what problem they solve and how the are bein monetized in detail. Those are just paragraphs talking about markets with potential money.

I have a really great concept I had a week ago, and I'm now writing a detailed document about it. I'm currently employed and I plan to kickstart it by means of some contact in a group chat that is going to Thailand and there she has a domestic friend who is successful at coding (I think) and is launching an startup/product. I saw his product, the concept fails.

I have a $Billion+ idea, and I'm not exagerating. This is my realist side talking about it. I already had been too optimistic about my ideas in the past.

What I want to say is I would love to start working about it with an elite tech team and some money behind it... But there is no way I'm posting it here, explaining it as best as I can (the vision, the why's...) for the public. No f*g way.

Do you really think ideas are worth nothing? All the first intuition about a problem you are trying to solve, that depends on parameters like motivation, experience and (abstract-visual like) intelligence. All the market analysis you can make about it. The detailing and identifying the core elements that make your service great. And so on.

All of that is inside the definition of idea. So no, I don't think they are worthless.

Torai··on As Google Fights Fake News, Voices on the Margins Raise Alarm
> By no means do I agree with much of what is on the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS)

I also could have my nuances with some things said there. But I don't think there is so big of an ideological breach among people if the debate is proposed from a pragmatic and resolutive standpoint. Wouldn't many of us agree that a government should control or manage some resources and give free land for innovation in others? Couldn't we debate about what would be the most efficient way to organize a public governing body, area by area, and how?

Torai··on Where will artificial general intelligence come from?
So, when when say AGI, what do we mean? Is it about creating a new intelligent "being" or mimicking what we perceive as human intelligence inside some hardware? I guess it's the the first one.

And I guess AGI would be just 1 intelligent being because there is no need for more as they would communicate and share intelligence, so de facto being only 1.

Can all human intelligence also be understood as only 1 in some sense, as an isolated human without access to culture wouldn't be more than surviving animal?

And when defining intelligence's ingredients, isn't necessary some sort of "motivation" than drives someone to get better at something? Humans have, genetic (survival), social, personal... motivations. How does that translate to AGI, what could be it's motivation?

Torai··on Where will artificial general intelligence come from?
If this is a talk, is there any video of it?
Torai··on Young People Need Another Gold Rush
> But as long as there’s a gold rush somewhere in the economy, big dreamers can dream big.

As long as there’s a gold rush somewhere in the economy, people will focus on getting rich without thinking if they are doing is sustainable and long term positive for the economy, without thinking if structural changes are needed to secure their well-being, which is correlated to the general well-being.
