VCFundedGenYer··on Show HN: Auto Dismiss Mac OS "Allow <app> to find devices on local networks?"
That was due to antitrust pressure such that they did not self-prefer their own apps.
VCFundedGenYer··on Hackers expose the identities of more than 40k DHS employees
The Compuserve and Netscape ISP website husks also feature no-nonsense text-only news pages with 2000s-style renderings that are near-instant on any device.

68k.news also exists but has been broken for a long time. It's maintained by a retro computing youtuber who seems to have abandoned it or isn't paying attention to its brokenness.

VCFundedGenYer··on Get Ready for Touch on Mac
This was 16 years overdue.

Steve Jobs going on that weird unhinged rant about touch being "unergonomic" in 2010 when introducing the revamped Macbook Air was one the most misguided speeches I've ever seen.

Touch on computers (laptops, namely), is a net good. I loved my Surface, and will love it on a Macbook.

VCFundedGenYer··on If IPv4 were land
IPv4 is perfectly and objectively fine on internal networks. IPv6 is overkill and way too complicated for most.

IPv6 can be selectively applied to say, NAT addresses, but other than that, IPv4 is just fine and your statement is incorrect.

VCFundedGenYer··on I Used AI to Fake a Scientific Paper. Here's What Happened
Please, even if it is an experiment, don't do this. We don't need more AI slop in the world.
VCFundedGenYer··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Always have and always will love having a touchscreen on a laptop.

At this point it's a huge loss to not have it on a display. Don't like it? Then shut up and don't use it. Don't yuck others' yum.

VCFundedGenYer··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
You are an outliner. Touch is standard across every device. To not have it just feels like a deduction.

Even now, I find myself resisting the urge to tap things on my Macbook display as it is.

The world moved on. Touch is standard, and Steve Jobs was incredibly wrong with his weird opinions.

This is like people arguing that a computer mouse is not necessary in 1990.

VCFundedGenYer··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Explain further what you mean. The displays are still best in class. What metrics do you have suggesting otherwise?
VCFundedGenYer··on Valve Responds to Developers Fearing AI Slop and Clones
What a bunch of nothing and hand-waivey statements. Valve has issues with cracking down on bad behavior, and this response is rather immature and poorly planned.
VCFundedGenYer··on Discord will soon let anyone find public server messages through Google
Do you even use Discord? Is this comment satire? Discord is loaded with ads, upsells, spyware, and straight scams all throughout its UI.
VCFundedGenYer··on Viral Polls Are Not Representative Polls
More people use Mastodon than Bluesky. To rely on Bluesky for metrics is a fool's errand.
VCFundedGenYer··on Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees
A Phoenix link is almonst never the "original article." It barely contains half the info OP's link does.
VCFundedGenYer··on In Leaked Audio, Flock CEO Tells Cops Backlash to the Company Isn't Real
He seems oblivious that midterms are next week + he will be in a lot of trouble past that point.
VCFundedGenYer··on Microsoft offers voluntary buyouts to a quarter of its workforce
In my experience Copilot is competing with Grok for being the absolute dumbest LLM out there. It consistently forgets things, loses context, suggests irrelevant garbage, can't parse MS Docs correctly, and can't even spot easy things like files on your system that it objectively has permissions to read.

MS must be losing mountains of money over this.

VCFundedGenYer··on Everything
Bad name. Everything Search is widely known and taken.

Also what even is this? Just looks like a fever dream of AI slop.

VCFundedGenYer··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Windows is dead to consumers. Linux market share is skyrocketing.

To assume MS will continue coasting is a fool's errand.

VCFundedGenYer··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Microsoft laying off (and yes, this is a layoff, no matter how it's spun) 25% of the entire freaking company is not a sign of a healthy organization.

You can't and won't tell me with a straight face that AI will replace them.

VCFundedGenYer··on F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS
AI slop port. The gaming world doesn't need any more of these.
VCFundedGenYer··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
Good. Glad some folks in the community still have backbones to stand up to this, unlike the likes of Linus Torvalds, Debian, etc.

AI needs to be shamed in FOSS. It's not good. This fad will die eventually.

VCFundedGenYer··on AI-Assisted Paper on Z-Library Cites a TorrentFreak Article That Doesn't Exist
> most of the citations in articles in the humanities are really not needed.

Um, no, that is entirely wrong.

Citations are always mandatory.

Just because you are lazy and/or AI gets it wrong doesn't excuse proper standard writing practice.

VCFundedGenYer··on The Missed Opportunities of Sonic 06 (2025)
The only version of SA1 I played as a kid was the Gamecube DX version. I was shocked to find out that the original version looks and plays a lot better (and has far fewer bugs)
VCFundedGenYer··on I turned my TV into a Game Boy Color with a Pokemon town as my home screen
Has a long way to go. Many errors here, and any true fan or historian of Nintendo would see them immediately.

The startup screen is the Game Boy Advance, not Color.

The Pokemon center building is completely messed up.

The sprites are a bizarre and somewhat inaccurate mishmash of the RBY and GSC games. Only GSC were coded with GBC colors (Yellow was a bit of a middle ground, Red and Blue were only GB coded)

At least he's saying Game Boy and not the incorrect "Gameboy" that most people type wrong.

VCFundedGenYer··on Shitter – A Nitter Fork
You're just objectively wrong. There is no reason to entertain a Nazi website. You sound hurt as if you work for X.
VCFundedGenYer··on When the Term "Heatwave" Is No Longer Enough
Words are words. The term does what it says on the tin. No change is needed. Article is whiney.
VCFundedGenYer··on Pentagon grants DHS permission to test heat ray weapon for use at border
You don't seem to be grasping the severity of the situation if all you care about is "what do you want as a replacement?"
VCFundedGenYer··on A farewell to Arc browser
Yet another browser built out of the hype cycle with functionality that firmly and only belongs as a Firefox/Chrome extension.

Won't be missed.

VCFundedGenYer··on Is this the new cyber normal?
That's not true. The vuln was exploited and utilized within minutes of the disclosure.
VCFundedGenYer··on Is this the new cyber normal?
I hope not. A lot of LLM assisted vulnerability stuff has been noise, slop, fluff, or fake/false data. Drowns out the real issues.
VCFundedGenYer··on Docker is weird
Docker does not need root.

Side note almost nothing about Docker is weird. This article chooses rather boring design decisions and picks on them.

VCFundedGenYer··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
FYI, Nintendo probably already saw this and is going to instaban anyone who attempts this.

They are the worst of the worst when it comes to nuking systems from orbit.
