VarunGupta··on Show HN: Selfship.ai – Surface and fix isues with your agentic applications 24x7
How does it detect the failure mode of an agent, given that the agent is meant to continuously loop to work around any wall it hits?
VarunGupta··on Is the Game of Cricket a Model for Surviving the 21st Century?
The diversification of the game in terms of different formats have offered different sections of demographics (most on the basis of age) a nice way to admire and enjoy the game.

It has also adopted from corporates and other sports the ways to popularize and distribute the game. Indian Premier League is a fantastic example of how the authorities adopted the proven model of English Premier League football (soccer) and took the game of cricket to the new level of entertainment.

There have been concerns raised by people about dilution of glory of good and old cricket by the introduction of new formats. I disagree with that. Here measure-the-response is at play. Most of the Test matches (5 day format) is witnessed by crowds as low as 10% of total seating capacity of stadia. And as the younger generations are coming into mainstream of consumers, it was highly pertinent to introduce something that they can identify with.

VarunGupta··on Ask HN: algorithm to slice a number into parts
There can be many ways to do so, one of them is already described by cperciva.

Another can be,

a) All Integers n1 = n2 = n3 =.....= n[m-1] = int(n / m) and nm = n - (n1 + n2 + n3 +.....+ n[m-1])

b) Floats n1 = n2 = n3 =.....= n[m] = n / m

I feel the problem can be more serious if you want the parts to be in certain fashion or distribution.

Topcoder Forums [forums.topcoder.com]

Though the discussion is chiefly about algorithms and programming, it attracts brilliant people from top universities and research organizations around the world.

VarunGupta··on Ask YC: what is your most important idea?
I think, to be remembered for long time it's not about the field or occupation with which a personality is associated but it depends on the quantum of fundamental shift that he/she brings in the evolution of civilizations. eg: Newton and Einstein will be remembered for the centuries to come though other brilliant physicists will not. Humanity will respect Wright brothers for many ages to come, though the case may not be same for the person who invented jet engine.

May be their original work is not in much use these days but they opened a new domains for future generations to work on and that created the shift.
