Yhippa··on Websites Should Be Printable
I have a caveman thing I do that I'm somewhat ashamed to admit. I straight up print websites and feed that into my LLMs to chat against. Or when I'm trying to get product detail pages into the LLM. For articles, I frequently go to reading mode and select all and share to the LLM app.

But jeez, I remember doing consulting for an ecommerce site and adding print media queries to make the printouts look better. I am so impressed whenever I see a page print cleanly. I know how much care goes into doing it or thinking that users would do such a thing.

Yhippa··on 90% of US working hours are spent on tasks not covered well by AI benchmarks
Longer dev cycles gave management time to think through and correct bad business decisions. Now they'll get to tighten that feedback loop where bad decisions (or good ones) get implemented quickly. It will be interesting to see what that split is and the reaction to that.
Yhippa··on DraftKings Is Using AI to Behaviorally Target Chronic Gamblers
It's like "customer success", weaponized.
Yhippa··on When did Google get so weird?
Now imagine they did this to your home assistant devices. Oh wait. You don't need to imagine it. Already happened.

Things used to work. Now they don't and they're slower. Super frustrating.

This post is another example of people inserting non-deterministic steps on a process and letting it run wild. I'm honestly surprised Google is doing this of all corporations. It felt like they used to have some taste about user experiences.

My usage of incognito chats using prompts from other sessions has gone way up. I'm tired of it doing the "you're absolutely right" bit for every new piece of information I bring and it completely trying to donate U-turn.
Yhippa··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudWatch/latest/monitori...

Amazon sells a service which could automatically scrape screens for you. I've been messing around with this at work and this could absolutely be used the "wrong way".

Yhippa··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Never see these kinds of complaints when people do with the Apple Vision Pro.

I have a recommendation in a similar vein: Gran Turismo 7 in VR on PS5. I have a headseat graveyard and never really used my headsets except for that game. I've heard good things about Half-Life Alyx and now your comment has me absolutely intrigued.
Yhippa··on iPhone Duo
Apple did have a split keyboard for my iPad mini but it seems like they make it hard to access. I don't think there's one on the bigger tablets.
Yhippa··on iPhone Duo
I've had two folding phones and I am not going back until the issues are resolved. Here were my problems:

1. After a while, I think dust would inevitably get in the hinges and wouldn't fold flat. I've seen demos in stores of newer gen Samsung foldable phones and it looks like those wouldn't fold flat

2. The inner screen protector eventually lifted off the screen, causing catastrophic damage, and requiring repair (under warranty thankfully)

3. The aspect ratios were weird. I ended up using native app sizes, making the extra space kind of a waste

One thing I did like about the Samsung foldables was that when they were folded and using the front screen, I finally had a phone that fit my smaller hands! It was nice being able to use my thumb to reach the other side of the screen. Will be interesting to see how this works out because it looks decidedly wider.

Yhippa··on GPS glitched across the US by as much as 33 feet
Is this considered "outside-in" GPS? That is, relying on satellites orbiting the Earth? Is there such thing as "inside-out" where maybe you rely on the images of the sky above? I guess without IR or other secondary scanning technologies, that would be difficult.

Yhippa··on AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped: study
What you described about exams is like how I approach most certification exams: go through a test bank of questions until I get 80% then take the real test.

Yhippa··on The August 17 outage, and the work ahead
Centralized decentralized code repos. It feels like an oxymoron.
Yhippa··on Sticky wage norms and the real wage cost of unexpected inflation
Count me in the unlucky 37%. I job hopped for more stability in 2022. I got more comp but then proceeded to get 2% raises. I'm making less now adjusted for inflation than I did in 2022.
Yhippa··on Why some people mow a lawn better than others
After a bad day of work I've noticed that driving a manual transmission car helps me from stewing about it as opposed to driving an automatic where my mind can wander more often.
Yhippa··on Did they ghost you?
I recently vibe-coded an app in Codex and it has nearly the exact same style.
Yhippa··on Map of the world's great castles and fortresses
Clearly vibe-coded. Cool idea though. I can see what was leveraged from the Wikipedia data set.

Side question: why does Claude prefer dark backgrounds with low-contrast text?

Yhippa··on The Demoralization of the White-Collar Worker
> This is not a spending problem. Families spend less on clothing, food, and appliances than a generation ago, adjusted for inflation. [19] The increase is entirely in fixed, non-discretionary costs: housing, healthcare, childcare, education.

I bet the explanation for this is that non-discretionary costs got higher, so people pulled back on discretionary spending. I do wonder if maybe people intentionally pulled back on discretionary spending despite small wage growth over time and capture was performed by housing, healthcare, and childcare. Or incentives by the government caused it. I have no clue.

Yhippa··on I Love the Computer
This post resonates with me. I remember in Kindergarten getting my very first life experience with computing tech: grounding myself by touching the bottom screws of a Apple IIe. I've loved them in nearly the same way as OP.

I get the way he feels. I remember how special this stuff used to be because of how niche it was. It does feel a bit like the normies co-opted it but that is my personal and selfish view.
