Yzupnick··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Yah, maybe I should have been explicit, but I think my HTML change as semantically important. (My interpretation of the last line of the challenge.)
Yzupnick··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
I often have trouble writing CSS. Here is how I approached this challenge. https://jsfiddle.net/mwabc719/

Anyone have good advice on a better way?

Yzupnick··on Vim: Takeaways from One Year of Typing
There is a plugin for that: https://github.com/terryma/vim-multiple-cursors

But I find that I can usually accomplish the same thing with macro or a targeted search and replace.

Yzupnick··on Beware of geeks bearing gifts
Here is a TED talk from Melinda French Gates talking about exactly this: http://www.ted.com/talks/melinda_french_gates_what_nonprofit...
Yzupnick··on The Tyranny of Taxi Medallions

Yzupnick··on Ask HN: Computer Curriculum for Grades 9-12
That is really the question I'm asking. What should every single high school student walk away with? Should it be knowledge of hardware? Specific software? General software?
Yzupnick··on Ask HN: Computer Curriculum for Grades 9-12
The school is in NY. The kids come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Most, have been interacting with computers for years. However, a significant percentage, have effectively no interaction (the reason for this is a whole other topic.) What we are trying to do is 1)understand exactly what we should be teaching the kids who have no background, in order to "catch them up." and 2) Understand what pieces of knowledge should every single graduating student have.

Maybe I'm setting the bar to low. I don't know, that is why I am asking.

Yzupnick··on Show HN: Chime - A Notification Center for the Web
This looks great, congratulations.

1) Do you have any plans to allow arbitrary RSS as notifications, or integrating with ITTT? This could allow people to create notifications for services that you don't support.

2) While I don't believe everything has to be monetized, I was wondering if you do have a plan to make money, and if you do, would you mind sharing?

Yzupnick··on Dell in $24 Billion Deal to Go Private
Can't the reversed be asked as well? "Why start a brand new company for $24 billion, can't they just buy Dell? Is the culture/supply chain/infrastructure so bad that it has to be scrapped and completely redone?"

I would guess that Michael Dell is betting on the fact it is easier to change the bad parts of Dell, than it is to completely re-build all the good parts.

Yzupnick··on NYT Skimmer
That might be true, but it does not negate what he is saying. I really like Skimmer, especially compared to the regular site, however I do miss scrolling with my wheel. The point is to A/B test within Skimmer.
Yzupnick··on Why Only One in Four Teens is Employed
I don't think the WSJ is lying to make it's point. The graph can be interpreted differently. Up until 2007 employment seems to be following a fairly regular cycle. In fact right before it seems to be going back up, then there is a sudden drop. That could be what the WSJ is talking about/
Yzupnick··on ThriftDB a new service from the Octopart Guys
I know what you were trying to say, and I agree, but this comment would have been a lot better without its mean and condescending tone.
Yzupnick··on Microsoft Unveils Mango, the Latest Version of Windows Phone
Monopolies are ok if they are created and kept through legitimate means. And I think WebKit's monopoly on phones is legitimate and well deserved. If Microsoft put together a comparable engine (and it is very possible they have, I haven't tested it) then I would be happy that there is competition. But diversity for diversity's sake is not a good reason to not use WebKit. In fact it is very possible it would do more harm then good.

I am hoping* that Microsoft drops IE (the rendering engine not the browser), and throws it's support behind the Gecko engine. With Microsoft supporting Gecko, and Google and Apple supporting WebKit, we should see nice growth browser's capabilities.

*I know this won't happen, but who says a man can't dream.

But, people still are making a move to score points. Your points still show.

Taking away only other people's points isn't really solving the problem.

Yzupnick··on Ask PG: Can we see the response to the HN changes?
Why would you downvote a well-intentioned but wrong comment? If something is wrong, explain why it is wrong. Downvotes, I think, should be reserved for comments that are 1) pointless ex:"agree" or "great post" 2) mean ex: "How could you be so ignorant!" 3) Way off topic.

Everything else should get ignored or warrants further discussion. In some cases it is even important to upvote "wrong" comments.

Yzupnick··on Wozniak: Tablet is the PC for 'normal people'
I think you are confusing tablets as a form factor with tablets as they are currently implemented today. There is no reason pcs can't remove all that stupid maintenance crap as well. (In fact it is on list of startups that Ycombinator is looking to fund.) And it is entirely possible that tablets can become just as cumbersome in that regard.
Yzupnick··on Warren Buffett No. 2′s “Inside Trade” Wasn’t Illegal
Do you mind linking to these studies? I am genuinely interested in reading them.
Yzupnick··on Show HN: DealPage - Aggregation of all Group Buying Daily Deal Sites
A simple "Your email validation has a bug" would have been sufficient. No need to be condescending.
Yzupnick··on The weirdest (but working) iPhone 4 reception trick I have ever heard
I don't think by weird the op meant "Wow, this is a miracle that can't be explained by science." It was more along the lines of "Wow, this interesting and I would never have expected that to work. And boy would it look strange if everyone walked around with their phone in a cup."

And I agree with that statement. So yes it is weird, despite the fact that it has an explanation.

Yzupnick··on Republicans: No compromise possible on net neutrality

Yzupnick··on How to Make Trillions of Dollars
True, the basic problem I have seen with people that present views such as Chomsky's is that I have yet to see an alternative to free market capitalism that doesn't have worse problems (in my opinion) than any problem pointed to by those such as Chomsky.
Yzupnick··on US Patent system so dysfunctional you can patent a stick from a tree
True, but it took four years for that to happen.
Yzupnick··on Silly Rabbits: Google is for Spam not for Search
I think (as in I am making this up, but it makes sense to me) that spam sites bring in more revenue to Google as they are specifically designed so that people click on the adds. While non-spam sites are generally designed to deliver content.
Yzupnick··on Be Scientific (Skeptical) about Scientific Research
You should be downvoted for adding nothing to the discussion.
