___q··on Replacing jQuery (110kb) With UmbrellaJS (8kb)
That's much worse than jQuery's implementation, there's no event delegation or namespacing

___q··on Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Emerging Variants
Yes, when we compare the rates of transmission between vaccinated and unvaccinated communities, vaccinations are stopping the spread. More questions?
___q··on How High Will California's Taxes Go Before There's No One Left to Tax?
It's no mystery, the Reason Foundation is a libertarian think tank. This is the same purposeful omission made previously by The Tax Foundation's "California Considers Doubling Its Taxes" article on the same topic.

___q··on CSS Gradients that avoid the “gray dead zone”
Some uBlock filters to block them:

___q··on What a Shipwreck’s Tree Rings Reveal
Wokeness run amok I tells ya!

It appears in the subheading because it's relevant to the article

> Knowing more about these timbers helps us understand the Dutch success in world trade

___q··on What a Shipwreck’s Tree Rings Reveal
What virtue are they "signalling?" Do you know what the Dutch East India Company was or that it resulted in several colonies?

___q··on Tell HN: Full macOS reinstall because Apple ID
It took two weeks for my Apple ID email reset email to arrive. Since then I've learned to never use it for anything. I'm sorry for your loss.
___q··on California Considers Doubling Its Taxes
Even the author walks it back in the article. CA is "practically" or "roughly" doubling its taxes (and removing insurance costs). The clickbait headline though? "DOUBLING"
___q··on California Considers Doubling Its Taxes
> after headline whiplash

The headline is no accident, The Tax Foundation is a center-right, fiscally conservative organization, generally critical of tax increases.

___q··on Vanta.js: Animated 3D backgrounds for websites
HN is rife with "technical solutions to human problems" already, which is why new users can't downvote posts. It improved Stack Overflow, it would work here.
___q··on Airbus Beluga
lift
___q··on Poll: Did you know that HN allows you to make polls?
...even though the options are; I voted "yes" and "no"
___q··on iPhone camera app replaces person’s head with a leaf in photo
Turns out the Camera app did NOT replace this person's head with a leaf https://twitter.com/mitchcohen/status/1476951534160257026

So the discussion about the image processing pipeline during the Rittenhouse trial" is just as bizarre as it was before.

___q··on Ask HN: What is your spiritual practice?
This post should have an asterisk. It is not risk free, a primary concern being drug-to-drug interactions. That said, a lethal dose is 10-20x what is typically administered.

> Adverse health effects may occur from casual use of ayahuasca, particularly when serotonergic substances are used in conjunction. [1]

The heightened sense of internal reality for DMT users is mostly due to its interaction with the visual cortex.

___q··on My productivity app for the past 12 years has been a single .txt file (2020)
False dichotomy. The author mentions the use of tags and emails as a reason why this solution works better than others.

If you read it, TFA is more than just a folksy phrase like "make it a habit."

___q··on Design evolution of the Windows control panel
Has MS announced plans to port the Hotdog Stand theme to W11?
___q··on Netflix Executive Sentenced to 30 Months for 700K Bribes, Kickbacks from Vendors
> Only after 2016.

Which it is right now, so "happy birthday" is public domain.

> You ABSOLUTELY DO need to report any online purchase that does not charge you sales tax

The original post didn't say "that do not charge tax." Yes you must pay taxes where applicable, like all purchases.

___q··on Netflix Executive Sentenced to 30 Months for 700K Bribes, Kickbacks from Vendors
"Happy birthday" is public domain and

you don't need to report things you buy online on your taxes

___q··on Netflix Executive Sentenced to 30 Months for 700K Bribes, Kickbacks from Vendors
Which laws were this Netflix exec's crimes an impossible "side effect" of?
___q··on Find anything fast with Google's vector search technology
So how do you game this? "Googlebomb" this? I assume it's harder than keyword-based search? As a search engine, what efforts do I take to stop someone from gaming vector-based search engines?
___q··on Web3 is going just great
Then Web3 doesn't exclusively benefit speculators.

And there's a big difference between SSH and SSI.

And solves it problems that, you say, weren't already solved.

So it boils down to blockchains taking too much electricity?

___q··on Web3 is going just great
SSI uses public key cryptography, are you familiar with it? Adding a blockchain allows creation of a registry, smart chain interactions, notarization, many other features.

How does it only benefit speculators?

___q··on Web3 is going just great
> which Web3 technologies

How does self-sovereign identity exclusively benefit speculators?

___q··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
Yes

> For individuals who have had COVID-19 previously, the risk of reinfection with Omicron is significantly higher, relative to prior variants.

___q··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
> unvaccinated without prior infection is a different story.

No it's not, the study specifically mentions "the relative reduction of risk conferred by prior proven COVID-19 infection"

___q··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Well that's easy, silly!

    <button type="submit" class="inline-flex justify-center py-2 px-4 border border-transparent shadow-sm text-sm font-medium rounded-md text-white bg-indigo-600 hover:bg-indigo-700 focus:outline-none focus:ring-2 focus:ring-offset-2 focus:ring-indigo-500">
    </button>
A real joy compared to writing CSS, lemme tell ya.
___q··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Well it's not like they're expecting people to pay for...oh $279 for the UI kit eh?
___q··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Arbitrary Properties (inline styles) can now use constraints (css vars), media queries, and hover/focus states, the reasons Tailwind said you should use their utility classes instead of inline styles in the first place :)

___q··on Two lines of CSS that will improve HN on mobile (IMO)
Why are we setting font-size in pts?!
___q··on The biggest crypto lending company is a ponzi scheme
> Explain how pump and dumping penny stocks doesn't apply?

That's just market manipulation. Going on Twitter and saying "BTC to the moon!" isn't a Ponzi. It requires an actor (like Charles Ponzi) to take new investors' money and pay it to old. Bitconnect was Ponzi scheme, not in some abstract sense.

> You get in early, you win, you get in late, you lose.

So vague it applies to everything that pays interest...
