_el1s7··on Swedish court says Google is to pay $1.5B to Klarna in antitrust damages
> PriceRunner is considered to have suffered damage as a result of Google having illegally favoured its price comparison service for many years

Why would Google NOT favor it's own service at it's own product? How is that illegal?

_el1s7··on Vulnerability reports are not special anymore
Everyone here is apparently, that's why you getting downvoted.
_el1s7··on Vulnerability reports are not special anymore
> LLMs are as good as almost any security researcher, and anyone4 can run them.

What is this, rage bait? It's bullshit, and insulting to actual security researchers.

That might be true for low-effort vulnerabilities and fake security researchers, but the real security researchers are far from being replaced by LLMs.

_el1s7··on Unauthorized alert sent to cell phones across Brazil
This is so lame. It's not up to you to define what's a "real hacker". Building and breaking are not exclusive to each other.

_el1s7··on Show HN: StartupWiki – A Free Alternative to Crunchbase
Looks like a vibe coded slop.
_el1s7··on Stop Using JWTs
I hate these type of clickbait articles
_el1s7··on I'm Eric Ries, author of "The Lean Startup" and new book "Incorruptible" – AMA
Cool, I got "The Lean Startup" as a gift, but haven't read it yet.

Who is the target audience for your books? Is it founders? Or is it for people who want to be founders?

_el1s7··on Is AI causing a repeat of frontend’s lost decade?
Listen, frontend developer, there's this thing called "npm", you should look that up.
_el1s7··on Deepfakes Tore a High School Apart
Just put your phone down.
_el1s7··on Deepfakes Tore a High School Apart
Yes, iPhone has some clever depth technologies, but that doesn't mean it can't be tampered with.
_el1s7··on Deepfakes Tore a High School Apart
That won't work, a camera can also photograph another screen or a fake printed photo. And also cryptographic modules can be cracked.
_el1s7··on Anthropic acquires Stainless
Stainless didn't do anything new, in fact, there already multiple different SDK generators just as good
_el1s7··on Chrome removes claim of On-device Al not sending data to Google Servers
Google doesn't need to that because Google is not affected by any anti-scraping provisions, every website literally begs Google to get scraped.
_el1s7··on Trademark violation: Fake Notepad++ for Mac
Trademark infringement seems to be rising these days, thanks to AI slop. Surprisingly, the domain registrars and hosting providers don't really seem to care much about these issues.

To takedown something that is infringing your brand, you would have to spend time and money dealing with bureaucratic procedures.

_el1s7··on I am building a cloud
Exactly.
_el1s7··on I am building a cloud
That's not a business 101.
_el1s7··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner
> Several live mobile apps serving hundreds of thousands of users

It seems like he's having a database for each app.

_el1s7··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner
Ah yes that's probably true, but still having 30 apps in a single db instance doesn't seem better...
_el1s7··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner

  > 30 MySQL databases (248 GB of data)
  > 34 Nginx virtual hosts across multiple domains
  > GitLab EE (42 GB backup)
  > Neo4J Graph DB (30 GB graph database)
  > Supervisor managing dozens of background workers
  > Gearman job queue
  > Several live mobile apps serving hundreds of thousands of users
He's doing all of that on a single server?!

I'm not against vertical scaling and stuff, but 30 db instances in one server is just crazy.

_el1s7··on TikTok will not introduce end-to-end encryption, saying it makes users less safe
That's good, people who need E2EE shouldn't use TikTok either way, there are plenty of other secure apps for that.

TikTok is a social media app, and it gets heavily abused as it is.

_el1s7··on Never buy a .online domain
This is one of the pains of centralization. And honestly, it could happen with any TLD.
_el1s7··on Wikipedia deprecates Archive.today, starts removing archive links
Just went into a rabbit hole looking into this, wow, can't tell if this is just another drama on the weird wide web or something else.
_el1s7··on Major European payment processor can't send email to Google Workspace users
> For viva.com's engineering team, in case this reaches you: add a Message-ID header to your outgoing transactional emails.

Don't know what they're using for sending emails, but that's something that should be handled by their email service provider, unless they're hosting their own email servers.

_el1s7··on Ex-GitHub CEO launches a new developer platform for AI agents
Entire.io, the name is on point considering it asks for access to my entire GitHub account.

But seriously, $300M valuation for a CLI tool that adds some metadata to Git commits. I don't know what to say.

_el1s7··on LiftKit – UI where "everything derives from the golden ratio"
"golden ratio" my ass, excuse my french, but you should let the design speak for itself, and the design here is just mediocre at best.

What a weird joke of a company is this.

_el1s7··on France's homegrown open source online office suite
At least it's not Laravel or .NET lol.
_el1s7··on France's homegrown open source online office suite
I mean, let's face the reality, do you really think anything worthwhile in regards to tech projects will ever come out of government initiatives? I doubt it, especially in the EU.

The closest thing to an alternative office suite from an European company is Proton, and even that is barely a replacement.

_el1s7··on Show HN: I spent 4 years building a UI design tool with only the features I use
That domain is definitely worth more than $800, good find.
_el1s7··on France dumps Zoom and Teams as Europe seeks digital autonomy from the US
Europe? Uh, I think you mean the whole world.
_el1s7··on EU–INC – A new pan-European legal entity
This is good, but don't think it will change much. The EU suffers from bureaucracy and disparate rules for each country, which is a pain in the ass for startups, it really needs unification on taxes, and less rules.
