_menelaus··on Introducing Clairic, a new System One class of extraction models
Biggest thing is that these are made from very capable LLMs trained on the whole internet. So they work out of the box on almost any classification task. Much, much different than struggling to train your own brittle classifier.
_menelaus··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
Most young people with a conscience (which is most people that like to read) leave to avoid conscription in an unjust war.
_menelaus··on Microsoft-Decision-1, our model for fast decision-making
Fascinating insight. I'm curious, how do you know this?
_menelaus··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
My point exactly. That was sarcasm.
_menelaus··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
Yeah what is so interesting about the past
_menelaus··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Are you willing to give up your land so that someone else can have it as their 'homeland'? Who was there 2000 years ago?
_menelaus··on Jeff – Jev-compatible 0.8B decision models, trained at home, ~30 ms
The fact that its not narrow and stupid is what's different
_menelaus··on Ollaya – Ollama for open-source, Jev-style decision models
If you're so inclined it would be easy, fast and cheap to distill Jev for your task.
_menelaus··on Ollaya – Ollama for open-source, Jev-style decision models
The moat is the RL synthetic data pipeline they set up to train jev. Open sourcing that would be the coup, not the model architecture and training scripts, which are trivial.
_menelaus··on Iran school bombing: grounds to believe US was behind atrocity, UN finds
Christians aren't bad people. Its just that the older ones (and a few young ones) get their information from terrible sources. They watch Fox News, where every day Trump is presented as the hero fighting against the evil democrats. They don't notice the propaganda like a fish doesn't notice water. Bad inputs bad outputs.
_menelaus··on Show HN: I made a flight simulator, except you're just a passenger
This is hilarious. Going back in to play some more chess while I fly to Siberia
_menelaus··on OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents
People that don't want to pay for everyday AI, which is most people.
_menelaus··on US Republicans revolt against Flock AI surveillance as backlash intensifies
A flock is used for a group of sheep. These are AI cameras to watch the sheep. We are their flock of sheep to watch. What an awesomely bad choice of name for the company.
_menelaus··on The British state has lost the argument
Criticism of Zionism must be extirpated by any means necessary.
_menelaus··on Ask HN: What would happen if your company stopped using all AI tomorrow?
We're an app dev agency so we would inflate our costs and timelines by 5x and we'd never win another bid.
_menelaus··on Cursor is now a part of SpaceX
Its 60B for a huge amount of RL coding data to become competitive in the space.
_menelaus··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)
Using AI to mass scrape the internet for family accounts of Hitler's escape, to prove he made it to Argentina. I started off very skeptical but now I think its 60-70%.
_menelaus··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
This is good for Anduril. The future of war is cheap, massed, intelligent drones. Its strategically fortunate for us to burn through all of this expensive, obsolete crap.
_menelaus··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
What are we even talking about here? Controlling the strait? This actually means controlling so much land around the strait that Iran can't launch missiles or drones at ships. Essentially conquering all of Iran by ground invasion. The USA could do this, sure, but we don't want to because its too stupid even for us.
_menelaus··on Show HN: A collection of firsthand WW2 stories passed down through families
I'm tickled you enjoyed it too. Thanks for the advice! Just implemented it. I'm a lot better at scraping than front-end.
_menelaus··on Israel targeted Gaza children resulting in genocide, UN inquiry says
I think the why has more to do with capture of our media and politicians through collusion, bribery and blackmail. Epstein, etc.
_menelaus··on Groq Raises Another $650M
Idk, they got all of Cursor's data, they could be finally cooking up a good coding model. They can poach or acquire talent, and they have plenty of hardware and data now.
_menelaus··on Show HN: High-Res Neural Cellular Automata
Fascinating. A glimpse into the mathematics of life and living tissue. A toy example like this might herald self-healing machines, in the same way that the first perceptrons heralded Fable and nude deepfakes.
_menelaus··on Widespread attacks on Iran have begun [video][50 mins]
Is there a single person on this forum who thinks this is a good idea?
_menelaus··on Japan Lost 3M People in Five Years
If nothing is done they will go extinct.
_menelaus··on Public have more fear than hope on AI and future of work, study finds
As someone trying to hire juniors the danger is this: they all just depend on AI now and don't think for themselves or add anything to it. And I have to tell them, if you just pass through my instructions to an AI you're worth $20/month. You're not even checking the responses. Some take this to heart, some don't. In other words it takes more maturity to realize how to be valuable in the AI world, since education trains people to complete rote tasks and they have to break that mindset to be valuable now.
_menelaus··on No new trial for Sam Bankman-Fried
Isn't it the opposite? He gambled with other people's money and lost big. This is criminal because he won, he kept everything, if he failed, everyone else loses.
_menelaus··on Google DeepMind Paper Argues LLMs Will Never Be Conscious
If we had enough patience to implement one of these with pencil and paper, I don't think we would ever talk about it being conscious. Its just tempting to anthropomorphize what we can't see.
_menelaus··on What Claude Code's Source Revealed About AI Engineering Culture
Have you found any cheaper models to work well with OpenCode? Like any of the Chinese models?
_menelaus··on U.S. stocks are set to deliver their worst quarter in nearly four years
His approval rating is at a historical low for any president at this point in their term, I think. People don't like ICE, pedophiles, or wars in the Middle East.
