_progger_··on Ambition can be poison
You might like his other post "Work for us 'Til You Drop": http://37signals.com/svn/posts/3389-your-lifersquos-work
_progger_··on Ask HN: What do startups do with millions of funding?
Google "never outsource your core competency".
_progger_··on Foxconn to hire 3,000 to support Firefox OS and software development
How many of those employees are in fact biorobots?
_progger_··on Foxconn to hire 3,000 to support Firefox OS and software development
Because if you put several thousand engineers on the project they got to do something great, isn't?
_progger_··on What asm.js is and isn't
How do you expect DOM to be accessed from C++? Do you think it is possible to make an asm.js -> C++ code map for debugging? Or in worse case asm.js -> C++ (somehow) -> Scala debugging?
_progger_··on Lobster, a game programming language
Also in C#: | var a = 1; | vs | dynamic a = 1; | I think there should be a version number next to language name to avoid false impression.
_progger_··on Priced out of Paris
And the payers is not the type with accounts and charities to use for tax dodging.
_progger_··on Ask HN: What am I going to do with my job?
"Most people are years and years behind the world." You read too many good blogs, crappy enterprise software actually is "world".
_progger_··on Scala.js - Write in Scala for the browser
Cool!
_progger_··on Scala.js - Write in Scala for the browser
Current version of Scala is definitely superior to current version of JS in terms of quality of implementation. ECMA 6 is a different story.
_progger_··on Project Loon
"But two-thirds of the world’s population does not yet have Internet access."

Those two-thirds can't see Google Ads then :).

_progger_··on Scala.js - Write in Scala for the browser
I hope it covers "Debug with breakpoints in Scala for the browser".
_progger_··on What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons?
Apple did not invent gloss and aluminum, but they give them their special style. Also flat rectangles look like... em... typical windows :).
_progger_··on What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons?
Yes, it's a matter of taste. Perhaps my analogy was a bit harsh :).
_progger_··on What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons?
It looks like a dev did this one, not a designer :))).
_progger_··on What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons?
The strong selling point of iOS is consistency and order across all concepts. To me Android is like a mutagenic factory sewage - anything is possible for better of worth.
_progger_··on What's Wrong with the iOS 7 Icons?
It seems they can't go full non-skeuomorphic without looking like a WP rip-off? Finding new symbols for abstract concepts is even harder though, some will stay until we have brain-computer interfaces that will give us new senses.
_progger_··on "Microsoft engineer" on Xbox1
So, what you promise us is that games will cost less then on PS4? That's a strong selling point!
_progger_··on Show HN: aufond.me — a résumé for the modern age [Meteor.js MVP]
... and other geeks. Recruiters and managers want something black and white, un-styled and printable. Good as a personal project for actual CV though.
_progger_··on Golang 10x faster than Ruby for web APIs
Slow train on rails is probably better then a fast one without :).
_progger_··on Poll: Full-time software engineers over 200k, how'd you get there?
> If you're 20, generalize.

Did you mean 'study an a uni'?

> If you're 25, specialize.

Did you mean 'graduate and find your first job'?

_progger_··on iOS 7 looks familiar
My point is that you could expect such an obvious decision as making a mix of UX styles of two other competing platforms to be executed a bit better.
_progger_··on iOS 7 looks familiar
It's a cross between WP and Android. It's a very strange feeling when you realise you could do a better job at UX design then a multi-billion company.
_progger_··on Income Distribution in London
Well UK is socialistic. Probably more benefits then in USSR.
_progger_··on Income Distribution in London
Hopefully tories will change that at least a bit. I personally think families do not belong in central London.
_progger_··on Income Distribution in London
Well, devs can already consider themselves to be 1 in 1000. The quest is to be 1 in 100000 now.
_progger_··on Income Distribution in London
Tip: you are not smarter then other buyers/renters. No offence but all the routes have been considered already. You always pay the price with time or money or lack of quality. Unless you work from home of course :).
_progger_··on Google tried to resist FBI requests for data, but the FBI took it anyway
Probably not as easy as resisting paying proper taxes...
_progger_··on Are coders worth it?
"money, perks, freedom, respect"

Err... CEOs/CTOs/CFOs have that. You should add "reasonably minimal competitive" in front of each word when talking about web devs at an average company.

_progger_··on Ask HN: I'm 26 and would like to make 100k/yearly before I'm 30. How do I do it?
"Dive into something that compiles. ... Take some time, and write a small webapp in Django, Rails, Play Framework, Node, and anything else that sparks your fancy (and learn their accompanying languages)."

Err... None of that compiles - they get interpreted.
