_robbywashere··on Crypto-assets and decentralized finance through a financial stability lens
Can’t understand why the fed wants to regulate tulip bulbs. What’s next a paper on beanie babies?
_robbywashere··on Show HN: The Bitcoin Note – Secure, Self-Custodial Bitcoin Wallets in Cash Form
As an American rooted in the puritanical foundations of my country I do not support speculative financial instruments and believe rather money should come from strong hard work ethics. Therefore I do not approve of these crypto currencies
_robbywashere··on I’m not convinced by the new lab leak debunking
There will likely never be a smoking gun. But provocative reasons for globally felt tragedies are always fodder for conspiracy theories. Have fun!
_robbywashere··on Toyota suspends domestic factory operations after suspected cyber attack
Good point. There are plants in the USA, but this appears to have to taken place in Tokyo.
_robbywashere··on Toyota suspends domestic factory operations after suspected cyber attack
If only the NSA had been spending the past decade hardening our cyber infrastructure rather than spying on its citizens and keeping found exploits secret from our industries
_robbywashere··on The Great Gapsby? How modern editions of classics lost the plot
NFT fixes this
_robbywashere··on Fourth journalist killed in Mexico this year
Mexico is a scary place. Violence and or the threat of violence reigns supreme. People are afraid to be outside at night. Every scalable wall is covered either with broken glass or razor wire.
_robbywashere··on Crypto.com accounts had unauthorized withdrawals
The money will be recovered. That amount cannot be washed anymore
_robbywashere··on No amount of alcohol is good for the heart, says World Heart Federation
Loneliness is also detrimental to the heart.
_robbywashere··on WebAssembly: The New Kubernetes?
I agree! Let’s come to terms with the ubiquity lesson of JavaScript and make a proper vm, that for now interplay’s with ubiquitous-JavaScript. But also will not leave out the evolution of other languages or software concerns at the language level. Let’s go down a layer and have a ubiquitous vm. I think the possibilities for this are huge. Before you say “ok but the jvm”, “history repeats” - I don’t think that argument is fair. the jvm was built at a very different time and has its own niche and it’s own bloat. Again, we’re transitioning from JavaScript first. Great things will follow.
_robbywashere··on Cannabis use produces persistent cognitive impairments: meta review
Why is this a bad thing?
_robbywashere··on Jack Dorsey and Marc Andreessen's crypto feud puts Web3 at risk
I imagine something reminiscent of web3 will exist in the future, but I think it will come from the ground up rather than by the will of our technologic overlords; or a solution in search of a problem.
_robbywashere··on Why modern cars feel so lifeless to drive
Driving is lifeless. You’re locked in a pod. You see your surroundings through a windshield, you are not apart of them. Try walking or bicycling.
_robbywashere··on Tesla Model S Goes 752 Miles with a Startup's Prototype Battery
Interested in the longevity and how it compares to existing
_robbywashere··on Milan confirms new cycling network linking 80% of the city to bike paths
Yet the worst is you are annoyed, not dead. Bicycles and cars are not the same.
_robbywashere··on After years of doubts, hopes grow that nuclear fusion is near
Is nuclear fusion this centuries perpetual motion machine?
_robbywashere··on Bitcoin ‘may not last that much longer,’ academic warns
Bitcoin is software. Software is unchanging and can never be upgraded.
_robbywashere··on The CIA Is Deep into Cryptocurrency, Director Reveals
Happy to know our tax dollars are being spent on Tulip bulbs
_robbywashere··on Blockchains don't solve problems that are interesting to me
Agreed. Nonsense tulip bulbs! I for one appreciate inflation and the fed printing money. Its for our own good. As with most if not all government entities they have the people’s best interest in mind and refuse to serve a small elite group of friends. I’ll be happy when this whole decentralized thingy ends and goes to zero.
_robbywashere··on The Stroad
I couldn’t agree more with the article. Unfortunately as for America I think people wouldn’t be very happy with turning their stroads into streets. There is a very toxic self centered car culture here; any impediment to it real or imaginary will make people very angry.
_robbywashere··on Ask HN: Ridiculous job interview. What do I do?
If you NEED the job and the leetcode quiz/exam/hoop-jumping is a HARD REQUIREMENT, then you may not have a choice. Tell them it seems a bit weird to run you through the gauntlet after specifically calling out your open sourced code, and maybe suggest an interview that will be more telling on how well you’ll be working together versus deciding “if you can code” (your project should already indicate that?) If they’re bothered seemingly or obviously and cannot take the feedback lightly or seriously then maybe that’s a good indication to consider other opportunities.
_robbywashere··on Ask HN: Ridiculous job interview. What do I do?
Don’t listen to all the middle managers on here telling you you should jump through hoops. This interaction now will set the precedence for the rest of your working relationship. I’d bring it up for a discussion with them.
_robbywashere··on The SEC Crackdown on DeFi Is Imminent
What I don’t understand is that cryptocurrency is considered property. NOT A CURRENCY. So how could the reward of more property; via defi mechanisms like yield farming, be considered a security?
_robbywashere··on macOS Zero-Day Used Against Hong-Kong Activists
A great way to spread and enforce those ideals of American democracy and freedoms would be to harden the security of our hardware and software around the world rather than exploit, ignore or weaken it.
_robbywashere··on Tech sector job interviews assess anxiety, not software skills (2020)
It’s interesting to me that this type of comment always shows up with like minded articles and studies. It’s always along the lines of “YOU CANT HANDLE THE PRESSURE”
_robbywashere··on Afghan panic over digital footprints spurs call for data collection rethink
Ah rethink now? Past 20 years deaf ears? Ok. Cool.
_robbywashere··on Apple's plan to “think different” about encryption opens a backdoor to your life
This is waaaay too turnkey for searching images on our devices that someone/something doesn’t like. Absolutely terrifying.
_robbywashere··on A 3°C world has no safe place
I always enjoy the apocalypse articles being paywalled
_robbywashere··on Defense Motion: Bitcoin is not “money” within the meaning of 18 U.S..C. § 1960 [pdf]
According to every tired hacker news thread: Bitcoin is not money or currency, it’s a Ponzi scheme
_robbywashere··on Why Cryptocurrency Is A Giant Fraud
This is an oldie. Try the new one “it’s bad for the environment”
