ablanton··on Introduction to Computer Music (2009) [pdf]
I'm so happy to see Nick Collins taking this on. If you haven't seen his book, Handmade Music, it's an excellent book for music projects. This contribution looks exceptional as well.
ablanton··on A look inside Dialector, filmmaker Chris Marker's chatbot from 1988
I love Chris Markers work so much, this essay is mind blowing. I had no idea he knew how to program or created a second life

It’s a synthesizer, I might change it soon though

ablanton··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2025 – Show and tell
I'm at year 1.5 and built this software for making small art books

https://zine.baby

The goal is to make physical books. It's still early days, but fun to see what people are creating.

ablanton··on Yet another bad three months as Tesla reports its Q2 2025 results
It’s like a master class in how to burn down a company. He alienated his core customer base.
ablanton··on Show HN: I modeled the Voynich Manuscript with SBERT to test for structure
Wasn't it already deciphered, though?

ablanton··on Pure Data: an open source visual language for multimedia
PD is great, what other language is working towards a 30 year backward compatibility!

Hito Steyerl has a nice talk on XR technology that starts with this work. (talk starts at about 6:30) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1Qhy0_PCjs

I bet his toilet flushes the other way too!!
ablanton··on FTC Probing Facebook for Use of Personal Data, Source Says
I love how now this issue is alright to talk about on hacker news. For some reason when it was happening and all of the alarms were going off, it was banned content on hacker news. Technology is inherently political with political ramifications. -_-
ablanton··on There’s Something Fishy About the Other Nefertiti
there is a lot of press around this work but seems derivative of material speculation ISIS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL6e-kEkur0
ablanton··on Twitter's new timeline feature
I left facebook for this exact reason. the platform has diminished so greatly that it's now virtually unusable to me.I'm really not sure what to equate the experience to, it feels like trying to read a newspaper that is all ads. It's all vapid useless sales instead of meaningful interpersonal connections over long distances... the way it started. I fear twitter is not far behind.
ablanton··on Jack Dorsey: “We never planned to reorder timelines next week.”
Hey hey good joke! If every web service was as bad as g or fb we could all enjoy a internet that acts more like cable television...
ablanton··on The Art World’s Patron Satan
The article is a little annoying in its portrayal of artist being completely unaware. A really good discussion broke out on Paddy Johnson's (artfcity) fb page where Simchowitz chimed in. I'm glad to see it on hn though ~ I think there are many analogues to the tech scene and many younger builders/hackers/engineers. I think it's a symptom of wildly speculative markets with potential major payoffs and few regulations.

just to be clear, tuition is inversely proportional to the amount of funding the government gives to higher education:

bidule is fine but max/msp is much more interesting from a audio software/programing environment.
