ablation··on Poisoned Google SERPs
Claudeslopped site design and information layout makes me dubious of the information conveyed.
ablation··on Fable Took My Job
The animal cartoons are also incredibly off-putting. I don't get it.
ablation··on The Mathocalypse
So many exclamation points!
ablation··on A map of every lighthouse
Zoom/scroll/pan is utterly broken. Which is a shame as the idea is novel, if only it weren't Claudeslopped.
ablation··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
I'm not sure I'd call it grim, per se. Blood Meridian takes that label for me, almost at the exclusion of all else in what could loosely be called the "western" genre. Lonesome Dove is more just very... gritty. And packs a serious emotional heft. Great book either way.
ablation··on Mysterious 'UFO' spotted on SpaceX livestream
Daily Mail articles should just be blacklisted on here. It's a clickbait ad farm.
ablation··on Special Projects (2016)
"The people on top desperately want us gone, and when it happens it'll happen so quickly you won't know what hit you. Software engineers need to recognize this common threat and organize (labor) sooner than later. Even more important is for all engineers to plan for an imminent future where developers are not paid like they are now, if at all. We have it good, but we will be automated away like everybody else, just a little later."

ablation··on The DeepMind Institute
Astroturfing. Surprisingly effective in this case.
ablation··on Archiving pirate radio station Kool FM
Wow, fantastic. Thank you. Just started listening to the podcast.
ablation··on Automattic's board forces CEO Matt Mullenweg into leave of absence
Long overdue. Matt needs to get some professional help or support, some of his actions have been incredibly harmful to the WordPress community.
ablation··on Foldable iPhone took 10 years to design
I would say more of a fold.
ablation··on AI Giants Work Hand-in-Hand with The Pentagon, Contracts Reveal
Gasp! I don't believe it!
ablation··on The creators of Dark Sky have a new weather app that shares multiple predictions
Subscription? No thanks.
ablation··on France, Saudi Arabia agree on €6B Dragon Ball Z theme park project near Paris
Sentences I was wasn't expecting to read today: "The idea was born after French President Emmanuel Macron and the Saudi crown prince discovered a shared enthusiasm for Dragon Ball Z during Macron’s visit to Saudi Arabia in 2025"
ablation··on Harvest (IBM 7950): Supercomputer for cryptanalysis at the NSA in the Cold War
That one job was to process "sensitive" intelligence intercepts and break codes, if you're not grabbed by the clickbait headline. It's a good read.
ablation··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
M1 Pro 32gb RAM. I still have absolutely no reason to upgrade.
ablation··on Show HN: GlassBox – what the browser reveals, and how identifiable you are
It's eye-bleedingly Claudeslopped.
ablation··on Not a natural calamity: it is being done to us knowingly
The people and organisations perpetuating these crimes against humanity are not anonymous. They have names, addresses, shareholders, boards, lobbyists. They should be named and shamed. Part of me fears that we will soon be unable to do so openly or effectively, with the rise of censorship and surveillance and looming control of public discourse. It's hard not to fall victim to hopelessness sometimes. I'm trying.
ablation··on WorldClaw Agentic 3D open-world generation at scale
Again, that Claude web design aesthetic is just seemingly everywhere right now. It takes me out of what I'm reading as soon as you see the tells.
ablation··on Discovery Loop
Absolutely reeks of Claude. This is the new aesthetic.
ablation··on The Sound of Inevitability
What an thoroughly ugly website, on basically every level.
ablation··on The Tungsten Market Is Warning of an Upcoming War
Because China has an obvious strategic interest in exploiting its dominance of a critical supply chain. The controls were introduced under its dual-use export regime, giving China leverage in the already very public trade and technology confrontation with the West.

None of that is evidence that China possesses secret knowledge of some imminent new war - as I stated, there's more than enough current wars. You have taken one of the known causes of rising tungsten prices, asked “why?”, and treated your preferred answer as though it had been demonstrated. A state using a strategic resource strategically is not a mysterious signal, it is policy happening in plain sight.

There's far more luminous signals for any impending Chinese (or, indeed, other) militarism than tungsten.

ablation··on The Golden Age of British Ice Cream
A fantastic article. Ruby Tandoh's writing on food is always of high quality and gets an immediate bookmark from me.
ablation··on The Tungsten Market Is Warning of an Upcoming War
Tungsten prices are already quite easily explained by China restricting exports and reducing production, existing wars consuming munitions, and Western governments rebuilding stockpiles. There's no need to point to some ominous new conflict. We've got more than enough.

All in all, some very weak evidence on show here, such as pointing to Tasmania’s Dolphin mine reopening as a supposed signal. It did not suddenly reopen because some spooky insiders sensed an imminent war. The mine's redevelopment was financed in 2021 and commercial production began in 2023, which was itself responding to Chinese supply concentration and the favourable economic situation at the time.

ablation··on The End of Everything by M. John Harrison
The referenced short story - The Crisis - that the article mentions can be read here: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/c/the-crisis Odd and unsettling, like most of Harrison's writing.
ablation··on Why a $154B CEO just endorsed stripping most Americans of voting rights
Why did a billionaire propose biasing the voting system towards the rich? Gee I wonder.
ablation··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
"I think you just need to accept the results of the competition. The winning submissions clearly provide value and had a lot of effort invested in them. I'm not really worried about a few inconsistencies or mistakes if the value is still there. Did you think another submission deserved to win over these?"

That comment is gold. Yeah, I'm not worried about hallucinated slop, just accept it was the winner folks.

ablation··on Jurassic Park computers in excruciating detail
That was a really, really bad book. By that time it feels like he was a shadow of his former page-turning self.
ablation··on The Graph That Should Be Front-Page News
You seem to be projecting onto me far more than my words literally state. I neither stated nor insinuated anything of the sort.
ablation··on A graph that should be front-page news
I wasn't aware I had weaponised their personal faults, or indeed claimed that what they said was indicative of being a personal fault. I read his post, and then read some more of his writing, and simply felt it would be worth posting what I read in this thread. For me at least, it was a useful experience that changed some of what I was reading into the commentary surrounding the data. YMMV.
