> As in, he sees media as some sort of ranked ladder where everyone wants to climb as high as possible.

You're projecting pretty hard here. That's what you think of when he says he thinks of them as a videogame. You do know that "games" on netflix are basically movies? See the recent https://www.netflix.com/games/82112833

You seem quite out of touch with what the state of media and games in general if the first thing you thought of was a game with a ladder.

> I told you a true story about my experience and you call it 'hyperbole'. Well, ok if it suits you.

It's almost as if your anecdote isn't reality or truth.

Yes, I've seen them watch it in real life too.

You clearly have no idea what IoT is if you think getting rid of wireless but keeping the ethernet port makes it not IoT.

Hyperbole. Almost no software on macOS requires the latest.

However, it's great that developers are not too concerned with backwards compatibility. It was really holding back a lot of software

Maybe you need a mirror. People are literally watching AI generated soap operas that have gone viral. Perhaps it's your lack of understanding that frustrates you
abletonlive··on Sigma Says the Compact, Modular FP2 Is the Ultimate Hybrid Camera
I'm done w/ hybrid cameras. Just make a video focused camera or a photography focused camera. Didn't people learn their lesson after seeing how well FX3 did?

We have examples today of companies that don't need to justify an eventual PE ratio of 25 so why would this be a thing all the sudden? I think you all are misunderstanding vague notions of market fundamentals as some kind of rules by which the market works.

> The rate at which we're churning out AI-generated code is going to make this worse, too, because AI-generated code is kind of notoriously terrible at security.

So you're saying it's good at finding exploits but bad at generating code? I can tell you don't know what you're talking about because pretty much all the exploits that are being found were exploits that were enabled by human written code. So let me correct your statement for you:

There are exploits everywhere and we humans have always been bad at writing code without exploits.

Android is right over there ->

Or hell, anybody from AU should really spin up a tech company or build a phone

"Novel" is doing a lot of work here. Save the PR for people that will fall for it. There's nothing novel about being internally compromised which you've demonstrated two times in a row

It's almost as if challenging assumptions, trying new/old/different things, course correcting after you learn is completely normal thing to do.

Your assumptions only work until they don't. It's not like we live in a static situation. What didn't work yesterday might work today

abletonlive··on No more icons in every menu by default
Rightfully so. Your entire premise is that design should be made with accessibility in mind whereas in reality, accessibility tools should be built to handle those concerns and design should be free to do what it needs to do full stop. If that's being accessible that's fine, but trying to enforce accessibility standards is like saying that Levis needs to make pants for people without legs.

Well it seems like it’s over for litellm. You’d have to be negligent to be using them at this point. If you’re managing this at your company good luck explaining why you should continue to use litellm after this

Well if we are going to be broad enough about "alignment" to just mean training that makes it practically useful, then yeah, it's a flawed premise and people are wasting their breath talking about it at all. It's basically broad enough that it means nothing
abletonlive··on Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
I can't wait for everybody to look back on "alignment" and realize that it's a flawed premise at its core and as such, a fool's errand
abletonlive··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
> and most viewers seem to share that belief

Well that explains a lot about the doomerism and misinformation we regularly find on HN. If you don’t see the agenda being pushed or look into who is funding the documentary for just about every documentary in existence then you’re just not very intellectually honest. For example one of the vegan pushing ones on Netflix is straight up funded by/closely tied to for-profit artificial meat companies

abletonlive··on Bleached corals thrive within days when touching healthy neighbour
It's not degraded....this is misinformation lol. Please think for yourself and verify.
abletonlive··on Bleached corals thrive within days when touching healthy neighbour
People believe the doomers a little too much. We should do everything we can to protect the coral reefs but I'm exhausted by the cynicism that's rampant. Even here in the HN threads people are convinced the GBR has collapsed and it is devastation. Couldn't be further from the truth. By the way...the GBR is collapsing and reforming all the time throughout the last ~30K years. It wasn't just some paradise that started to decline when humans showed up

Here we have the classic if you want something to happen in the corporate world, make it go viral on the internet. Except, humans will be humans and it played out in open source.

In this case, frenck most certainly backtracked because they realized they were on the front page of HN and did not want the heat.

So you're purposefully ignoring comics, news, magazines to make your point? Just because you don't read them doesn't make it a gimmick.

> that you need to drive the backlight at 90-100% during the day

Well, okay that's objectively false and anybody that has used one or owns one can tell you this.

abletonlive··on E Ink Kaleido 4
That doesn't mean it's a gimmick. Again, I implore you to actually look up what "gimmick" means. Just because there's a tradeoff doesn't mean that it's a gimmick. In fact, the very issue that you're talking about is something that is improving from Kaleido 3 to Kaleido 4. So even people that use this argument have something to take note of in this release.

When we went from black & white photography to color photography we also introduced a lot of tradeoffs. Would you have considered color photography a gimmick ?

abletonlive··on E Ink Kaleido 4
They don't have a great trackrecord here with QA or any of that for all the waiting. The first colorsoft noticeably has an issue with yellow banding on the bottom edge. It's a well documented issue and if waiting was supposed to help with issues like that, it clearly did not.
abletonlive··on E Ink Kaleido 4
Perhaps revisiting what "gimmick" means would help you. Plenty of people use their e-ink readers to look at magazines, comics, news. Plenty of people have a highlighting system. Arguing that color is a "gimmick" is silly considering there are practical applications of color, as we can see around us in the real world. Some of you are seriously living in the weirdest of bubbles.

Biology spent a ton of time adapting and evolving for the ability to see color but sure, it's a gimmick. I guess you should consider syntax highlighting a gimmick in code editors as well? Charts/graphs in textbooks use color as a gimmick, any book that include illustrations/images in color are gimmicks

abletonlive··on E Ink Kaleido 4
Amazon just refreshed their colorsoft kindles with Kaleido 3 so this is an interesting development. I wonder if Amazon had a heads up, I would have buyer's remorse right now if I bought a new colorsoft kindle recently knowing that there's a better version of the screen just around the corner.
abletonlive··on E Ink Kaleido 4
Color is a gimmick for e-ink now? I wonder if people thought the same thing when they brought color to television.

You can keep saying it’s hideous to feel morally superior for yourself but it’s not working here. Rhetorical analogies? There is no rhetorical analogy here it’s a fair analogy. Plenty of people take up woodworking and it is definitely one of the most impractical hobbies out there. Most people do not think they are going to derive net positive value out of woodworking.

Respecting the subject on its own terms?

What happened to you, did you just come back from reeducation camp or something?
