A testimonial (also unaffiliated): https://www.speeko.co/blog/beth-tucker-interview
The browser app has always been way ahead and the programmers behind the whole idea are super competent.
It's worrying because the founders of VK started Telegram which claims to be end-to-end encrypted.
To answer your question: one reason is that the developer needs to express how elements on a page place themselves not just on the screen but with respect to other elements as well. As you can guess, calculating this "layout" will occur pretty often, and if you have only one thread running all your code, then your logic and communication with the server can interfere with the rendering of the UI - thus making the response choppy.
On native apps, though some of them have borrowed web-type expressions of placement or layout, the entire calculation runs on a dedicated thread. Not on the same thread that also needs to respond to touch / slide / drag events!
HTH.
Is it tough for Mozilla to prompt the user to do something similar with DRM stuff on first run? i.e. Telling them these are the features not supported by Mozilla in principle but are a) implemented to be in compliance with standards and b) required if you choose to use services like Netflix.
That way I would still have the option to run a DRM free browser (and voluntarily not use websites that require DRM).
The article is very moving and I can't imagine how difficult it is to watch a loved one go through such suffering.
And your story is a nice tribute to a faithful, loving being. It reminded me of my own friends from a while ago in my life. It's good to know your dog was loved. Good luck with the future.

A long time ago, a friend's mother was complaining to me that (high school) Math is a dry subject and she doesn't blame her otherwise intelligent son for not being able get interested and do well in it. I wish I knew of this book then - I know it cranked up my interest in Math ever since.

Sorry for being off-topic: can anyone please recommend a (legal/accepted) way for licensed use of Helvetica Neue on websites/apps without having to purchase it from expensive font vendors like Adobe or Myfonts?

One of the arguments I make with them is that if I have kids on my family plan who go off to school and pop their feature phone SIM card into their friends smartphone, I can't be expected to deal with that headache - and if AT&T isn't going to recognize that the person who pays the bill should have the final say in the matter, and they don't offer basic parental controls, I'll take my business elsewhere.
It's worked at least three times on three different lines off the top of my head.
It's important to develop a strong emotional instinct of conviction based on your own beliefs rather than the natural method of holding convictions viz. based on what is popular knowledge at that time.
(1) In most situations, you will have a smart, rational person you might be aware of in the layer that he/she reports into (though preferable, not necessarily her direct boss). Talk to them about what you see as problems.
Be prepared to back up your claims with documented, solid evidence of the behavior. Keep emotional, hyperbolic, prejudicial expressions or assertions to yourself - they will only work against you in such situations.
Be as paranoid as you can be about who you can trust to back you up in your peer group in case there has to be a discussion. Knowing people who're discontent like you helps only if you know they won't stab you in the back.
Avoid ultimatums. Express faith in the system and the ability for the person to change. Express willingness to change yourself. In other words, come off as the bigger person right from the beginning and at all times.
(2) Have an exit strategy if the situation turns on you. This could include escalation to several layers (CEO/Board) above the layers you're dealing with and looking out for a new job.
Is detection of copyright infringement through or from an IP address enough to get a warrant issued that allows searching of the devices belonging to the individual using that IP address (or happens to be connected to the internet through that IP address)?

iPhoto is not half bad. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphoto/id497786065?mt=8
Even if it's made the default photo sharing app in the next release for iOS 5+ users for whatever reason, and integrated deeper come iOS 6 this summer, they'd instantly have access to several times Instagram's userbase.
They could using this as a bargaining chip in their negotiations to integrate FB into iOS / iTunes. Because Facebook, a public company, cannot have a $1B acquisition become irrelevant in a couple of months.
