achr2··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Waterfox is the best browser I have ever used. Native tree style tabs, minimalist UI, built in ad blocking, Firefox extensions.
achr2··on Show HN: ReadKinetic – a free, local-first speed reader for your own books
I was just coming to ask about word frequency. I get that cadence being jumpy might be less enjoyable, but having a look ahead that validates if a “likely to be hard to one-shot” word is coming up and slightly ramps down the pace, might make this an even better tool! Love it!
achr2··on G# – A modern .NET language with Go, Kotlin, and Swift ergonomics
What is it bringing from those languages? The FAQ reads like it is just altered syntax for C#, no difference in semantics or function.
achr2··on Anthropic says Alibaba illicitly extracted Claude AI model capabilities
Ding. Ding. Ding. "Provided value to the content author". AI scrapping negatively impacts the content author with zero compensation. There is no mutual benefit.
achr2··on A few interesting modern pixel fonts
I am very fond of Gohu font. I have used it on a recent static blog formatting adventure http://dntbl.ink , converted to woff2. I couldn't be happier with how it renders and gives that VAX feel.
achr2··on I built my own hair electrolysis machine
This is so interesting, thanks for sharing!
achr2··on Easyduino: Open Source PCB Devboards for KiCad
I enjoyed your post - PCB routing is often an act of 'zen and the art of..' for me and I recently did a similar exercise for an esp32.
achr2··on Ask HN: Who is using OpenClaw?
Why not use Claude one single time to create a service that does this? I have this same question with 90% of the 'simple' use cases I see for these task runners, it always seems more efficient (not to mention consistent) to have it generate the service.
achr2··on Two pilots dead after plane and ground vehicle collide at LaGuardia
No the shortage goes back to Regan when their justified strike was busted. It ended the PATCO “union” and was a negative turning point for labour unions in general.
achr2··on Apple is fighting for TSMC capacity as Nvidia takes center stage
They didn't tweak their prompt styling request enough... The ChatGPT world is depressing.
achr2··on Show HN: An LLM-Powered Tool to Catch PCB Schematic Mistakes
>> Even if it only catches one small, it could save thousand of dollars down the line.

Or it could send a design team down thousands of dollars in false positives/false negatives. With zero benchmarks provided, it is very fair to question a product that could have material negative impacts on a hardware team.

achr2··on It's hard to build an oscillator
This is really great, both from a specific application perspective, but also the approach. Really enjoyed looking through the repo and was inspired by your work.
achr2··on .NET 10
C#/dotNet has Ahead of Time compilation that works very well with containerization. Obviously there are still overheads for the AoT runtime, but it is pruned.
achr2··on 10M people watched a YouTuber shim a lock; the lock company sued him – bad idea
I had an Abloy Protec2 malfunction while locked (PSA don't use them for key-only sashlocks) and the locksmith drilled it out in ~10 seconds. That is the last time I spend that kind of money on a lock!
achr2··on Getting DeepSeek-OCR working on an Nvidia Spark via brute force with Claude Code
My assumption is that there could be higher dimensional 'token' representations that can be used instead of vision tokens (though obviously not human interpretable). I wonder if there is an optimisation for compression that takes the vector space at a specific level in the network to provide the most context for minimal memory space.
achr2··on Apple Shelves Vision Headset Revamp to Prioritize Meta-Like AI Glasses
Well said, I would buy them in a heartbeat if it was from a moral company.
achr2··on Ask HN: What are good high-information density UIs (screenshots, apps, sites)?
This was build originally with WPF and C#, but with an in-house MVVM framework. I have been slowly moving it to Avalonia, which I highly recommend.
achr2··on Ask HN: What are good high-information density UIs (screenshots, apps, sites)?
This is my own software, but – as a project engineering data exploration tool – high information and functional density was a key goal:

achr2··on Piranesi's Perspective Trick (2019)
This is really interesting, I'd love to see this perspective incorporated into mapping software like google maps/streetview.
achr2··on Piranesi's Perspective Trick (2019)
They mean distorted, not squished for both.
achr2··on A love letter to the CSV format
It’s all a pros and cons.. the benefit of those characters are they are not used anywhere else, hence you never have to worry about escaping/quoting strings. But obviously most of my csv usage is automated in/out.
achr2··on A love letter to the CSV format
Using ascii 'US' Unit Separator and 'RS' Record Separator characters would be a far better implementation of a CSV file.
achr2··on De-smarting the Marshall Uxbridge
I bought one of these Marshall speakers to use as a practice amp, only to find that the dsp latency is unusably bad. Maybe this is an option…
achr2··on Async await: the worst thing to happen to programming?
The only real landmine for c# is the default thread synchronization. If it was inverted, the language would be much better off. I think they also made a mistake in removing the OOTB method for throwing away the sync context, but I guess there are many third party libs that provide it.
achr2··on Writing GUI apps for Windows is painful
A second recommendation for Avalonia. It deserves the acclaim.
achr2··on The Hearts of the Super Nintendo
Later SNES games also used a timing check for region locking to identify PAL vs NTSC clock frequencies. The mod I did, nearly three decades ago, was to add a toggle switch with a second crystal that would change the clock frequency and allow the PAL game to be played on an NTSC system. Wait a few seconds while the game booted up and then switch back and enjoy the unreleased in North America "Terranigma".
achr2··on SQL is syntactic sugar for relational algebra
You should look at LINQ in C#/.net . The SQL-like syntax always has a function-first equivalent, that gets across this point fairly eloquently.
achr2··on Google takes aim at SEO-optimized junk pages and spam with new search update
Try kagi.com and never look back.
achr2··on Sora: Creating video from text
Almost certainly troves of stock footage. The type of exaggerated motion seen in these examples is very reminiscent of stock footage. And it is heavily textually annotated for search.
achr2··on AvaloniaUI: Create Multi-Platform Apps with .NET
What is the ‘accepted’ view / model separation paradigm for Flutter? I do like the majority of Dart’s language choices.
