Is it due to GPUs for ai?
adhvaryu··on Microsoft removes documentation for switching to a local account in Windows 11
Did you assume op uses an iPhone?
adhvaryu··on A Man Who Saved the World by Doing Nothing
> During a visit to the United States for the filming of the documentary The Man Who Saved the World, Petrov toured the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in May 2007 and commented, "I would never have imagined being able to visit one of the enemy's securest sites."

That's actually really cool. Must've been really surreal.

adhvaryu··on Why is China producing so many export goods, anyway?
Helps to stock up on USD I bet
adhvaryu··on Ask HN: Why is HN becoming a DEAD link graveyard?
[dead]
adhvaryu··on Apple apologizes for iPad 'Crush' ad that 'missed the mark'
What an untasteful advert.
adhvaryu··on Apple removes WhatsApp and Threads from China store under pressure from Beijing
And you think there will be an alternative that'll be strict on those things?
adhvaryu··on Pokémon Hacker Arrested for Selling Modified Violet Monsters
5 years in jail for editing some Pokemon save files? This seems like a parody of sort.
adhvaryu··on Why is it so hard to build an airport?
I went digging out of curiosity, and it seems you are correct. According to this article [1], around 80 of the top 100 airports have rapid transit connections.

adhvaryu··on WhatsApp Messaging Interoperability
The option to disable auto download has been there since day 1.
adhvaryu··on India unlikely to solve Japan's labor shortage
Simply no reason for skilled labour to go to Japan and learn Japanese than to go towards the West with higher salaries, no language requirements other than English and easier immigration paths.

There is also the terrible image of the Japanese work culture which is not going away anytime soon.

adhvaryu··on One change could take India to the football World Cup
You still have to surrender your Indian passport within 3 months to avoid getting prosecuted.

This process also includes a visit to their embassy, giving them your original naturalisation certificate and photocopies of your new passport.

Takes about a month to receive a certificate from India for proof but definitely not as bad as what you described.

adhvaryu··on UK’s Rishi Sunak considers weakening key green policies
There is a conference at No. 10 scheduled at 16.30 BST to announce it, so it's not just a thought.
adhvaryu··on Japan Airlines is offering to check a big item off your packing list – clothing
Seems like an easy way of reducing CO2 emissions. Looking forward to the results on this - could get a lot of backpackers if they cheapen the tickets as well.
adhvaryu··on The Power of Prolog
We had it in my comp sci bachelor's just a few years ago. But it was a small component of the AI course instead of being a big part of it. Fun stuff regardless.
adhvaryu··on Samsung Says It Will Beat TSMC to 4nm Production in the U.S.
What went wrong?
adhvaryu··on Will India’s Name Go the Way of Turkey?
The .bharat Internationalized TLD is already available in 22 Indian languages [1]. It isn't available in English however.

I personally don't think .in is going away anytime soon. The question you pose is already being pondered upon, like here [2].

adhvaryu··on Coincidentally-identical waypoint names foxed UK air traffic control system
Imagine the dread if they find out who wrote the code.

Also to be honest, shouldn't this have been better unit tested? Considering aviation is a ~ £60 billion industry for the UK.

adhvaryu··on WhatsApp’s founder first pitch in the community
It was actually cool reading the history section on Wikipedia [1]. Especially the fact that one of the founders was ready to quit and look for a job!

adhvaryu··on Microsoft is unbundling Teams from Office in Europe to address regulator concern
Why do you think zoom got popular?
adhvaryu··on Youtube2Webpage: Create Websites with Text from Videos
That's a good website you posted.

I encountered the "need" for this functionality a few years ago to find the video of a YouTuber specifically saying something.

Back then I used a website that's actually specifically dedicated to the YouTuber (Northernlion): https://babypig.men/nlss-search?q=Basmati

I'm surprised the website is still live!

adhvaryu··on Ask HN: Australia job opportunities on Working Holiday Visa?
So you left the UK working a software engineer to work in the fields in Australia?
adhvaryu··on Ridiculous captcha at GitHub to reset your password
That doesn't seem that difficult, why would you need 3 people for it?

Although, having to do it >5 times is a bit much.

adhvaryu··on Railway Oriented Programming
Very gloomy weather in the United Kingdom today. Thanks for this!
adhvaryu··on Ask HN: How big of an engineering challenge is it to move Twitter over to x.com?
You either reroute traffic from twitter domains to the new X domain and it's subdomains.

Or you only use X for the front end and it just connects to the twitter domain in the backend.

The former will affect the existing product and the latter is just making changes to the new front end. I'd prefer the latter.

adhvaryu··on Bypassing YouTube video download throttling
I was speaking from anectodal evidence because I've been feeling my 1080p streams look worse than before the new option showed up.

But it seems I'm mistaken [1].

adhvaryu··on Bypassing YouTube video download throttling
I have to agree, it's an interesting topic with a bit of "hacking" masala and just very well written. Can't remember the last time I read a full article here.
adhvaryu··on Bypassing YouTube video download throttling
They already lowered bitrates for non premium members.
adhvaryu··on Why doesn't Gen Z want children?
What about your paternal instincts/need to progenate?

I'm gen z as well and I definitely want to be a father one day because to me, it is instinctual - something I need to do for fulfilment.

Monetary hurdles (and a terrible online dating environment) doesn't help of course and I'm assuming most people in my generation are in the same boat.

adhvaryu··on Ask HN: Who is your favourite living philosopher?
> You just broke my bias that no female can be a philosophist.

Uh, why is that?
