aibottle··on Inside Facebook's plan to eat another $350B IT market
Well mostly because they don't rely on any legacy code base but they can write it all by themselves. Also Google has somewhat of an reputation for security other than Cisco.
aibottle··on The Body Is Not a Computer–Stop Thinking of It as One
Just skimmed the text and read the comments here TBH, but I can already see were this is going. Of course the brain is complex and we don't understand it and even if Elon might not succeed with Neuralink (in the decade to market plan) it is still worth exploring. So stop hating gizmodo.
aibottle··on Inside Facebook's plan to eat another $350B IT market
If I recall correctly Google built its own network gear long time ago. Completely makes sense. Looking at Cisco product with regard to security & the recent NSA leaks you really don't want your network gear from them.
aibottle··on Ask HN: Is Digital Ocean safe enough for production?
No, they cut your service when you get too much traffic!!!
aibottle··on Carbonated beverages induce increased food consumption in rats
Nonono there is so much wrong here.

Sample size: 20 people. (Okay what? Are you even trying guys? Releasing something about the the human metabolism with a sample size of 20? Shame on you!) Concluding a weight gain because Ghrelin levels are raised? What? Do you even science? Ghrelin in the first place only tells your brain to look for more food because it signals an empty stomach.

Studies on Nutrition don't get me started...

aibottle··on Nearly 1 in 3 drugs have a significant safety issue after FDA approval
And that's why only Doctors can hand out prescriptions and they are trained to evaluate the risk for you. So this system should actually work fine.
aibottle··on Google Cloud Prediction API End of Life
Doesn't matter. To general masses it just looks (and well you will have to change code) like they shut down another thing after short time people relied on. Bad move Google. Just stop offering it and keep in running in quiet for people who have it next time.
aibottle··on Chaos Communication Congress is moving to Leipzig
Make sure to visit the "Runde Ecke" in Leipzig to get a feel for what happens when we let the government create unlimited surveillance.
aibottle··on Artificial intelligence predicts when heart will fail
I really hope that more ML/AI research is directed into health care and scientific research. Don't waste your energy on selling ads guys!
aibottle··on F.B.I. Arrests Volkswagen Executive on Conspiracy Charges in Emissions Scandal
Exactly.
aibottle··on Venture capital is going to murder Medium
> It didn’t have to be this way. Ev could have RECONSIDERED. He surely had enough in the bank from previous exploits. Started slower. Not hired 150 people before there was a path to profitability, let alone sustainability. Maybe you will.

Well the Twitter folks is not known for clever business moves. Seriously though, how do you need 150 people for that website?!

aibottle··on Medium lays off 50 employees, shuts down New York and D.C. offices
No. They refocus.
aibottle··on Grumpy: Go running Python
This actually pretty great. Even if you will never run your code in grumpy, it underlines the status of Python. Having large corps investing in Python will help pulling in new talent into the Python environment also it strengthens the ecosystem of Python.
aibottle··on Things I learnt making a fast website
Its only good if you have good network conditions. For me, sitting in a hotel in Europe it takes 19 Secs to load. 49 Reqs/Page Load is just awfully much. Also the fastest website by far is blog.fefe.de, 2 reqs/pageload. Also written in C.
aibottle··on Things I learnt making a fast website
If you want to see a quick site: blog.fefe.de
aibottle··on Getting Rid of Comments on Vice.com
When I see comment sections, on YouTube or elsewhere, disabled it makes me really sad because in my opinion people should have the ability to share their opinion on stuff. The argument that those comments turn ugly is really nonsense (to me). If you don't like a comment just don't bother reading it again, just forget about it. However when a youtube video on 10 ways to keep me from being productive" has its comments disabled I can live with that. In the case of Vice it is a whole new dimension. Guys, you are journalists. The comment section often is a direct indicator on the quality of your stuff. These days there are so many BS-articles written even by you guys that I can't keep up and I really like how someone in the comment section can just point out wrong statements for everyone. I can read through the BS of trolls, just give the people a choice! If you want your comment section to be clean just implement a HN-like upvote system.
aibottle··on Backpropagation is a leaky abstraction
People complaining about having to implement backprop in a ML class? Nice one. Had to hand in this exact assignment last Friday. A valuable lesson, that's for sure. Generally I love how a proper lesson on Machine Learning really contradicts the "universal power weapon" narrative media put on machine learning in the last few years. Everything is not so magic anymore when it boils down to proper algorithm use.
aibottle··on How My 10-Year-Old Learned JavaScript
Everything. Including Brainfuck. JavaScript is a fking mess.
aibottle··on How My 10-Year-Old Learned JavaScript
There is no learning JavaScript. There is only the ability to use StackOverflow and Google Search. ;)
aibottle··on Maya – Python Datetimes for Humans
Great job, Mr. Reitz. I think I will use this in every project from now on. Thanks!
aibottle··on Deep Learning: What, Why and Applications
If you already know a bit about Machine Learning don't read this, you will gain nothing. If you don't already know about Machine Learning don't read this, you will not learn anything here. I have no idea how this can be trending. Over-simplified, generalized bs.
aibottle··on Deutsche Telekom says 900k fixed-line customers suffer outages
This is what you get for dumb and needless centralization of infrastructure inside a capitalistic system, which does not at all incentivize maintenance and providing security!
aibottle··on I don’t belong in tech
Reading the first paragraph of that "article" I only can respond to the title saying: True.
aibottle··on A Week with the New Macbook Pro with Touch Pad
So running JavaScript reduces battery life? Woa.
aibottle··on Skyscanner acquired by Ctrip for $1.7B
Not everyone criticising someone is a sad little man.
aibottle··on Show HN: Writing an HTTP server in Prolog
No! What are you doing?! Let that language die in peace!
aibottle··on Ask HN: Will the US electoral voting system ever change?
I'd like to add to the question: How could Trump gain more than 50% of the Electoral Votes given he had even less than 50% of the absolute votes? (According to: http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/president )
aibottle··on Ask HN: How do I protect my parents from the internet?
A friend of mine once explained to me, that in order to make the internet and computing environments safer we have to stop making things easier but educate the people (e.g. don't put the single-point-of-failure antiviruses on the computers teach people not to trust links/emails/usb/devices but to check the source and acutally think). I think you should educate them on the topic, and help them to learn it.
aibottle··on Unsplash – Beautiful photos free to use under the Unsplash License
I guess the Google Bot and Spammers around the globe appreciate the effort. :D
aibottle··on Pornhub Bypasses Ad Blockers with WebSockets
Well large sites don't really care if you click - of course that's better - but simply displaying the ad already counts towards the CPM count. Oh and nobody said something about a click having to be intentional. Anyone can click on them by accident, which is easier if they are natively looking embedded.

Also the adblock rates are already quite high [0]. I
