airza··on Google open-sources TorchTPU, a native PyTorch back end for TPUs
have you tried to purchase a device with RAM or a GPU in the last two years?
airza··on Qwen3-Coder writes less secure code when told it's for a US persona
the control shouldn't be against a model with ablated weights, it should be against a western model (Mistral?)
airza··on Google open-sources TorchTPU, a native PyTorch back end for TPUs
it doesn't seem like there's an abundance of shovels coming anytime soon
airza··on Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
The “obviously” here is puzzling. It is certainly obvious this would be better but it is not at all obvious how to do so.
airza··on "Just Ask Claude" Is a Rare and Valuable Skill
This many levels of irony and insincerity and condescension just seem... not very useful? Why did you want me to read this?
airza··on Reasons to Dislike AI Coding
It seems like a very lazy attempt to rebut the reasons. In particular:

"In this situation it isn’t the technology that takes the job, it’s the mode of production. And given that programming is intellectual work, the means of production is literally our heads, we ought to be able to seize those."

The word 'ought' is doing so much heavy lifting here...

airza··on Hackers obtain counterfeit TLS certificates for Google and other large services
The problem is that there is no out-of-band mechanism for update like other devices.

If your CA certs are bad on your mobile application, you can push an out-of-band update via the device's app store.

If your CA certs are bad on a website you access via your browser, the means of updating them is... the browser. You can't get new certs without using a TLS connection you didn't want to trust anyway.

airza··on Erm, does anyone still bother hiring in US/UK?
Didn’t we already do this with the outsourcing debacle 15 years ago?
airza··on OpenJev
I really hate the way that LLMS design websites.
airza··on I asked astra to make playable 4D chess
I think flipping the tiling between light and dark on the top left and the bottom right (or vice versa) would make more sense. Then bishops stay on one color and the knight always alternates between colors (like 2d chess)
airza··on A curmudgeon tries a language server
i have learned a lot of interesting facts about haskell and lisp from this post. those facts make me want to run screaming away from trying to use either of them to develop software. My time with Haskell made me a better programmer and I bet that LLMs made some of the documentation more intelligible, but...
airza··on Morioka Shoten
I would guess they are pricing them higher because the clientele are probably paying more.

What is the normal rent for a small room of that size in Ginza?

airza··on Waymo in Dallas
The finances of these metros rarely incorporate road costs; their accounting does not require them to incorporate the future liability for infrastructure maintenance and so everything looks good until they need to redo the roads.
airza··on Less Protein, Not More, May Lead to Healthier Aging
Size or strength both depend on a ton if protein. I don’t know what your objection is.
airza··on Google Search lets creators know more about their reach
I don’t think google should be held responsible for “breaking” this. It was crazy that one website got to see what i was doing on a second completely unrelated website.
airza··on If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know
I don’t know if you’ve tried to scrape or programmatically download a lot of websites recently! It’s not possible to repeat their data collection process anymore.
airza··on Cloudflare to cut about 20% of its workforce
I cannot imagine a company or managee that engages in these practices being honest about them
airza··on A Theory of Deep Learning
Are you on Windows? I patched the original tufte fonts to fix these crazy kerning issues, but i have indeed noticed them.
airza··on A Theory of Deep Learning
It is a modified version of ET_Book called ET_Bembo:

https://github.com/DavidBarts/ET_Bembo

airza··on A Theory of Deep Learning
A very fascinating read.

As a fellow tufte css enjoyer, Why is user select turned off on the sidenotes? I would like to be able to copy paste them quite badly.

airza··on Brussels launched an age checking app. Hackers took 2 minutes to break it
more precisely, it is synecdoche!
airza··on Why Japan has such good railways
Japan isn’t a federal government, so the decision can happen at the national level because prefectural and local governments zoning ability came from the national government.

I don’t think the federal government could de facto change this, though in practice they have levers available.

airza··on NASA Force
it chokes on my mac also
airza··on The future of everything is lies, I guess: Where do we go from here?
I agree with the general sentiment that the structure of society is going to change, but I don't know what the satisfying solution is. It's hard to imagine not participating will work, or even be financially viable for me, for long.
airza··on The Closing of the Frontier
if an 1800 word post is just too long I think you are cooked. This is the nicest thing I can say on the subject.
airza··on The Last Quiet Thing
Some of these fonts and transitions I like a lot, but sometimes it feels like there are a few too many fonts on screen.
airza··on Show HN: I Built Paul Graham's Intellectual Captcha Idea
I opened it, it told me it was impossible to build a house in california for less than 350K, i closed it
airza··on US economy beats expectations to add 178,000 jobs in March
There was a healthcare strike that ended this month which counts as added jobs iirc
airza··on Show HN: Apfel – The free AI already on your Mac
There is a CORS preflight check for POST requests that don't use form-encoding. It would be somewhat surprising if these weren't using JSON (though it wouldn't be that surprising if they were parsing submitted JSON instead of actually checking the MIME-type which would probably be bad anwyay)
airza··on EmDash – A spiritual successor to WordPress that solves plugin security
Sure, but if I want to host my static files on a website where they are easily cached... cloudflare also offers this product?
