ajcp··on Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse
Welcome to the central tension in ethics! Where is the line and why?

Beautifully done. Time to spin up ‘hackerfatigue.ai’
ajcp··on Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse
I take great issue with animal testing. I find that unethical too.

It’s the process that’s unethical, not the outcome. The ends cannot justify the means in the scientific process.

It's Phoenix; I assure you the comparison does not offend us.

That or just ATL. Text on place-icons might break the rules of iconography, but it's still good branding!
ajcp··on Xbox wants you to pay 24 to 40 cents per hour to stream games you bought
That's fair, and honestly is my preference as well.

On top of that, the Steam App is a bit janky, so much so that I just hauled my gaming rig out, plugged it directly into the TV, set Steam to launch at start-up in Big Picture Mode and bam, good to go.

Can't wait for the Steam Machine though...

ajcp··on What Is Gridifcation
> What modern production calls “correction,” and mistakes for care, is really a form of epistemic violence against the record of human beings objectifying felt time for our understanding.

Excellent writing. I know nothing of this space, but this is so engaging.

Unless it’s a dumb TV you can just install the Steam app on your TV and avoid Sunshine and the Pi all together.
ajcp··on Show HN: An icon for every city in North America
It’s a phoenix alright, which apparently is on their city flag, but so is Phoenix’s…
ajcp··on Show HN: An icon for every city in North America
Why is Atlanta a phoenix but Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the US, not?
ajcp··on GLM-Legal
Isn't that just in the US/Commonwealth judicial system? I could be completely wrong on how others, like non-adversarial judicial systems, work and/or how pervasive the US system is or is not.

EDIT: specifically around the use of judicial precedent in case-law.

You may want to check your settings again or clear you cache as there is definitely a `s.js`[0] file that inserts the `<svg>` element into the HTML DOM[1], which you can see does not contain the element itself.

ajcp··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face

ajcp··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
It's my understanding "all" the agents didn't find the same forum to communicate on; only a small number of all the agents they were running at the time did.

Since it's an artifactory it makes sense that they had a tool spec to use it for x, y, or z, and once they went to inspect the state of the artifactory deployment a small subset stumbled upon the "forum". Seems pretty intuitive.

- I need to do x code problem

- I see I have a tool that lets me pull approved modules from artifactory

- I should inspect artifactory to see what documentation it has about the various modules available

- I see there is a document in here that seems to be serving as a running forum?

- These appear to be other agents working on tasks just like me.

- I want to chat!

ajcp··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
Not gonna lie, really had me going in the first half there.
ajcp··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
But, again, the University of Michigan’s own admissions policies created the need for the students to “chill out”. Is this not treating a symptom of the problem, not the motivator?

Also 32,000 undergrads is not “massive” by any measurement[0], especially when accounting for the population of the state of Michigan, much less the broader United States.

ajcp··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
> And even then there's no guarantee you'll get in.

> yet when universities start taking steps to help reduce that they start kvetching

Your argument is hard to follow. It is prohibitively hard, to the point of being unhealthy, to getting admitted to the University of Michigan. Okay, but how does this policy solve for or address that in any way? Wouldn’t the solution be to increase capacity to meet demand, thus relieving those pressures that create the conditions for them to admit young adults that are suffering from health issues that the universities admissions policies itself precipitated?

ajcp··on OpenChamber: An Agentic Development Environment
Damnit! If I hadn't already blown $170 locking down `openfatigue.ai` today I would snap that one up too!
ajcp··on OpenChamber: An Agentic Development Environment
This looks very nice and well done. Good job! Okay, I'm going to have a tongue-in-cheek rant now.

OpenChamber, OpenAI, Open WebUI, OpenDoor, Open weights, OpenTable, OpenClaw, Open This, Open That. We're increasingly diluting the meaning of the term, and "open source" more broadly, that we're at the point of OpenFatigue being a real concern here.

ajcp··on Managing AI Coding Costs at Scale
Only spending $80 a day on Opus 5/Fable 5/GPT 5.6 Sol feels very low. I'll roll through a couple hundred dollars worth of credits a day with those models, the vast majority of which would be on non-coding tasks, and it's still a huge cost savings over me or my team having to do these things manually, if we'd even be able to do them at all.

But that's also why it's now easy to justify the cost of an Nvidia or Intel inference server with Kimi K3 locked and loaded :)
