alanpetrel··on Hacking Google ReCAPTCHA v3 Using Reinforcement Learning
So how do you stop bots from submitting fake data to sign up forms or trying to brute force password fields etc. on websites?
alanpetrel··on Italy’s austerity-fueled crisis is a warning to the Eurozone
Were austerity instructions handed down by the EU or did the individual member states decide to implement it themselves?
alanpetrel··on Alibaba founder defends overtime work culture as 'huge blessing'
Not to mention throwing litter and spitting on the street, vile people.
alanpetrel··on Alibaba founder defends overtime work culture as 'huge blessing'
Really? GDP says otherwise.
alanpetrel··on Alibaba founder defends overtime work culture as 'huge blessing'
Sounds exactly like Japan, when will these people learn that tired workers are unproductive and error prone workers?

One thing that really guts me about Brexit is that if the Tories get their way then 996 will become the norm here too.

alanpetrel··on Show HN: Tree of Reddit Sex Life
Tree of Reddit sex life? Isn’t that just a stump?
alanpetrel··on U.S. Readies $11B in Tariffs on E.U
And when did your friends become your enemy?
alanpetrel··on Technology Is Heroin
What an ignorant article, technology addiction is nothing like heroin or other drug addiction and does a disservice to those who are actually addicted to substances.

When was the last time someone died because of technology withdrawals? Please get a sense of perspective before posting such uninformed drivel.

alanpetrel··on Value Objects – DDD with TypeScript
Ugh, applying DDD to TypeScript/client-side code just seems like over-engineering. DDD makes server-side code horrendously complex and difficult to maintain, I can't see it being any better here.
alanpetrel··on CityBound – An open source city simulation game in Rust
Care to elaborate? Other than type safety I fail to see how TypeScript would improve the structure.
alanpetrel··on Computer Graphics from Scratch (2017)
"While their sets of features have considerable overlap, they aren’t identical, so this book covers their specific strenghts" - it should be "strengths".
alanpetrel··on Congestion Pricing: N.Y. Embraced It. Will Other Clogged Cities Follow?
London introduced a charge of £10 a day for cars if you drive into the congestion zone. If you live inside it you get a 90% discount though.

Considering the price of properties in congested areas, the fee is negligible.

alanpetrel··on A barber shop on wheels that you book via an app
I had to do a double take on that headline.

I live in Korea and I thought this was about prostitution. In Korea, barber shop poles are used to identify locations of brothels etc.

Anyway, I can see more and more use cases like this for certain segments of the population, e.g. elderly. Great idea!

alanpetrel··on The Adult Brain Does Grow New Neurons After All, Study Says
I think this conclusion was fairly obvious, the key point is that realising the neurons don't grow as quickly as they do in our early years.
