alaq··on Making macOS Bearable
Looks great! Can it find Chrome tabs?
alaq··on Ex-WhatsApp cybersecurity head says Meta endangered billions of users
Messages are e2e and WA doesn't have access to them. We're talking about the metadata here.

From the article: > including contact information, IP addresses and profile photos

I can confirm this, I used to work at WhatsApp.

alaq··on Lynx: Open Source Native Cross Platform framework used in TikTok
I bet they mean LLMs don't know the syntax, and won't be helpful in writing code for it.
alaq··on Ask HN: Which RSS reader do you use?
Exactly the same. Haven't bothered with Reeder 5.
alaq··on Show HN: Bring-your-own-key browser extension for summarizing HN posts with LLMs
I'd love it if it could summarize the HN comments as well.
alaq··on Ask HN: What companies hire with upfront salary ranges?
Coinbase has a standardized comp structure based on role, level and location. It's not negotiable (besides a potential signing bonus). You can see what the structure is like on https://www.levels.fyi/company/Coinbase/salaries/
alaq··on Ask HN: Easiest way to build a CRUD app?
Project has moved to https://jasonelle.com/
alaq··on I went back to using a ThinkPad from 2012
> I had to drop my screen resolution to 720p

This is the deal breaker for me. Upgrading my trusty x250 to a M1 MacBook Air means I can use two external monitors comfortably again.

alaq··on Android in Docker without QEMU/emulator
Multi-device [1] which is now in beta lets you use WhatsApp on the web without the phone connection.

alaq··on Six Years of Professional Clojure
Looks like the remote situation is only temporary.

From their website [0]: "On returning to our office in Palo Alto, California At the moment, our employees are currently living and working all over the country. When it’s safe to gather again, we fully intend to return to the office."

alaq··on Six Years of Professional Clojure
This is great to hear that Clojure experience is not a requirement! Thank you for sharing. I am based in NY and not willing to relocate, so I will look into NY/remote companies :)
alaq··on Six Years of Professional Clojure
How did you make the switch? Were you already working for the same company? Did you already know Clojure, from open source, or side projects?
alaq··on Ask HN: Mobile phone addiction help?
Do you not use iMessage? How do you access that when you're using the flip phone?
alaq··on My reading stack with Miniflux/RSS and Pocket
I tried Wallabag [0] but it didn't feel as polished as Instapaper, or Pocket. Especially the mobile application.

alaq··on My reading stack with Miniflux/RSS and Pocket
I think what OP meant was why go the self-hosted route for the feed reader but not the read-later application.
alaq··on My reading stack with Miniflux/RSS and Pocket
This is basically what I do too.

I'm using Feedbin (paid, $5/month) as I find their Twitter integration superior to anything else I've seen (it shows threads as one entry, it retains some of the Twitter UI elements, and it fetches the content of links so I can read them there, I can just add people to a Twitter list and subscribe to that list in Feedbin). It also lets me add Twitter searches which lets me read people's replies.

One more source you can add is Reddit. I usually only go for the top posts, like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/coolgithubprojects/top/.rss

I then use Instapaper for deferred reading.

alaq··on WorkflowCI – IFTTT for developers
I am always interested on tools such as this one. I end up using a mix of IFTTT and Google Apps Script for this.

What integrations do you offer besides Slack

alaq··on Show HN: HomelabOS – Ansible scripts to deploy self hosted cloud services
Super interested in this, will try it out. Thank you for building it.

A couple of questions: - Can I deploy this to a Digital Ocean droplet or similar? (I am assuming it's the case, but just checking). - There's openvpn, and there is pi-hole. Can I assume that if I connect a device to the VPN, I'll also get ad blocking via pi-hole as a bonus, or do I have to edit my DNS servers on the device separately.

A couple of software suggestions: - I'd love to see Wireguard instead of openvpn. The setup/speed is just amazing. - I'd love to have Matrix (https://matrix.org/blog/home/) as a messaging option

alaq··on Show HN: Adios.ai – Stop email interruptions, receive emails 3 times a day
How did you achieve this with GAS? Did you stash incoming emails in a folder/tag and re-added them to the inbox on a schedule?
alaq··on Ask HN: How can I prepare for a coding interview in a week?
Coderust has been an invaluable resource to me. Yes, it won't give you what a CS degree gives you, but it's enough to make you feel confident in a week or less.

alaq··on Ask HN: Organizing company knowledge?
I second this. While it doesn't fit my own workflow (I am a heavy workflowy user). I think when you have to find a middle ground and a tool that everyone will have some pleasure using, Notion is a better one than most.
alaq··on Ask HN: What tools have most helped your day-to-day productivity?
I also use Workflowy for my notes/todos/journal. I connect it with complice.co where I set my intentions for the day every morning.
alaq··on Show HN: My first HTML Demo
Good times! I find out that my first one is still up: http://lacquemant.free.fr/
