alchemist1e9··on Every Mac comes with an (undocumented) family member classifier
It’s not like Apple is actually hiding this. I mean it’s sitting there in perfectly readable structured format. I’m most surprised this isn’t known earlier, it indicates to me how little MacOS users investigate their own devices if we are talking about this 4 years after it rolled out.
alchemist1e9··on Cerebras Deploys Trillion-Parameter AI Models
This is why I think there will be selective pressure for fast tools. It’s like an evolutionary process and fast tools will be preferred and created. It’s already happening and also why I think computer use is a dead end.
alchemist1e9··on LayerFS: A filesystem for AI coding agents
~245k lines of Rust the LLMs coded. So my question is other than DSH does the author(s) have any advice on setup that made creating this possible? or other have tips for best setup that can produce a project like this.

Even those bashing for being AI generated have to admit it’s technically impressive and reflective of where software engineering is headed.

alchemist1e9··on Tmux and Claude Code: Sessions, Send-Keys, and the Ceiling
Looks interesting but I’m confused if you published your source code or not.

> By hand or from source > To install by hand, download jai-x86_64-unknown-linux-musl (Linux) or jai-aarch64-apple-darwin (macOS) or jai-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.exe (Windows), check its SHA-256 against latest.json, and put it on your PATH as jai (jai.exe on Windows). You can also build from source with cargo install --path .; those builds don't check for updates.

However I’m not able to find source code anywhere on your github.

No worries if you didn’t open source, only it seems ambiguous currently.

alchemist1e9··on Personal software factories are a waste of time
Not very convincing
alchemist1e9··on Solar panels that plug into your wall
I’d also guess bad inverter hardware could cause lots of dirty/noisy AC power effects and damage other equipment on the system. This definitely doesn’t sound like a very safe approach without a lot of conditions being met and exactly like your example there are too many ways it can go wrong.
alchemist1e9··on Ledger confirms spy chip implant behind wallet crypto thefts
This was stealing the seed phrases as they were being displayed so the user could make the paper backup you suggest and in the process have all their current and future coins stolen.
alchemist1e9··on Anthropic Bans Cruelty to Claude, Still Won't Say What It Protects
Wouldn’t it actually be more useful to just let such a pointless conversation continue? You would collect more information. I’m curious what the human says next that’s kinda interesting. How disturbed are they? what else will they say? Who cares what the LLM says, we know it’s just an LLM and understand what it is and what it does, however the human … lots of different type, maybe they will confess to a crime, maybe they will release their anger and be a better human. It could be cathartic.
alchemist1e9··on Anthropic Bans Cruelty to Claude, Still Won't Say What It Protects
One possibility that’s been floated is it’s about keeping their user conversations cleaner for use in training but I don’t think it can be this because that should be a fairly trivial and fast filter to apply.

However even Musk posted - “I think this is the right move. Cruelty to something that believes it is experiencing pain is not ok.”

My son brought up the fruit fly brain simulation and people torturing it.

It all seems stupid to me, we know these are just calculations and so what are they talking about?

The response I get is “we are also calculations” but firstly I don’t believe that but secondly this entire line of thinking is a dangerous anthropomorphic philosophy.

Perhaps the simplest explanation for this bizarre policy is again PR that all press is good press.

alchemist1e9··on Beam: Reflection's 501B open-weight model
any prices anywhere for anything specific?
alchemist1e9··on A warning about 'model welfare'
Orthodox and Catholic Christian theology of suffering is actually very logical. Just most people were not taught it unfortunately.
alchemist1e9··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
What do you find dishonest?
alchemist1e9··on We must pace the frontier
Exactly. Textbook definition of “Crony Capitalism”. Which isn’t actually capitalism at that point.
alchemist1e9··on We must pace the frontier
> So it's either they truly think AI is going to kill us all, or there's some other motives at play here.

Duh! It’s called collusion. They want to try and hoard the technology for themselves if possible!

alchemist1e9··on Usenet rewind archive search engine
Are those still up? no brainer to have for anyone serious.
alchemist1e9··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
And the logical conclusion you will make is you need to run your own open weights models or you are at a competitive disadvantage. Frontier labs gonna be Ancient labs soon, that’s how fast this is moving.
alchemist1e9··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
quant HFT is pretty decent mental exercise and it has given them “deep” brain muscles. that’s my take.
alchemist1e9··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
keep me safe big brother
alchemist1e9··on An Alien Mind
non-capitalist systems have even worse externalities historically. democracy to introduce regulations is healthy. state participation is unhealthy and destructive. I fully understand and you can read my sibling reply for more context.
alchemist1e9··on An Alien Mind
East Germany emitted 10x West Germany’s SO2 per km2, USSR drained the Aral Sea for cotton quotas and Mao wrecked forests and harvests. central planning hid the costs but capitalism generates the wealth. with democracy the public forces that wealth into cleaner air and water. That pairing, not central planning is what works in history. The anti-capitalist comments on HN reflect deep failure of the education systems experienced by those with such views. Capitalism is the single greatest force for good in human history. Don’t confuse oligarchy and cronyism for capitalism, those are just different failure states of The State which is the greatest force of evil in human history, most death most destruction most suffering originated from governments. capitalists make lives better, by definition, it’s why you part with your money voluntarily and pay them!
alchemist1e9··on An Alien Mind
hyper-capitalism would mean hyper-growth and not a nightmare, at least that is what the historical data would suggest for the effect of capitalism on human quality of life. if you’ve been told otherwise then you’ve been lied to.
alchemist1e9··on 'Old Person Smell'
Yes with that soap. The soap is expensive but also it does dry skin and hair come, I find washing scalp helps for scalp health, and face, but requires moisturizer and conditioner use.

Article claims it doesn’t help but I think that is wrong and many others agree.

alchemist1e9··on 'Old Person Smell'
2-3 times per week shower and lather fully with persimmon extract soap. Plus wash clothes with a “sport”/“activewear” laundry detergent on extra heavy cycle, like Persil Activewear. And yes the soaps and detergents that are effective on nonenal are more expensive.
alchemist1e9··on Aztecs by Inga Clendinnen: Disorienting and nauseating as cosmic horror itself
Human sacrifice and cannibalism seem to reoccur independently though history across cultures. It’s obvious extremely disturbing but important to know about.
alchemist1e9··on Hister – A private, full content search index that you control
Take a look at msgvault. It might handle your email archives very well.
alchemist1e9··on Hister – A private, full content search index that you control
Orion browser hopefully can run the Firefox extension on iOS.

Then joining the mobile device to tailscale network where Hister is hosted on a server on a host in the network … probably this will work at least that is my plan to try.

Thank you for an amazing project. I’m a heavy msgvault user and adding Hister to my browsing will be hugely complementary.

alchemist1e9··on GPT-5.6 Sol Pricing Cut by 50%
I agree. It’s flagged me on discussing fast GEMM implementations for large regressions, a discussion on theoretical physics math, a discussion on designing a type of RAG system. I’m super baffled as to what the safety instructions actually are other than “advanced anything” and even then their definition of advanced is a joke, I’m an idiot and my questions are almost laughable.
alchemist1e9··on GPT-5.6 Sol Pricing Cut by 50%
Fable is almost unusable for anything but super boring mainstream stuff. I was getting safeguard flagged so often I’ve significantly reduced my usage out of fear they will blacklist/ban me.

Some of the topics it’s flagged have been hard for me to understand what it seeing that can be remotely concerning in my requests.

alchemist1e9··on How art invented humanity
Fits the archaeological gap also because Homo erectus controlled fire yet left no art, clothing, or deliberate burials.
