altern8··on 800k involved in nationwide protests in France over rising cost of living
You can still get a smaller apartment and lower your bills by using less energy. You don't have to build a nuclear plant to be more mindful of the electricity you use
altern8··on 800k involved in nationwide protests in France over rising cost of living
Well, food you don't buy $10 bags of chips. Utilities you use as little as possible, transport you buy a used car instead of going to debt and paying $1000/mo. for a brand new SUV.

I'm just saying, if people keep buying, why would companies lower prices..? They're there to make money and prices are based on offer and demand.

altern8··on Tell HN: Remember to migrate away from .name domain
I disagree, I bought the house legally, no reason to keep me out. Or at least it doesn't seem fair
altern8··on Tell HN: Remember to migrate away from .name domain
I see a domain name as property. Am I allowed to buy a house close to the border? Yes. If they change the law, I don't think it's fair to take the house away from me.
altern8··on 800k involved in nationwide protests in France over rising cost of living
I'm not from France but I see the same thing everywhere. We need to vote with out wallet. If a bag of chips is $10, don't buy it.
altern8··on Tell HN: Remember to migrate away from .name domain
When they got it, they were presumably citizens of a EU country
altern8··on Tiny Little Office
Way too complicated. Tiny Office is nice because it's minimalistic and intuitive. Bad comparison
altern8··on Where is all the new, good software?
Wait--it wasn't a joke..?
altern8··on Show HN: Guitoro, a virtual guitar you strum with your keyboard
This is incredibly satisfying. Nice work!
altern8··on AI is a tool and using it well takes skill
Is it intelligent, or is it a tool?
altern8··on Apple HomeView
WHY
altern8··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
I see, like how many cell phones are in the household and what brand
altern8··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
Can someone explain to me what kind of data it collects, and what value could that data have to advertisers or anyone else?
altern8··on LightPanda 1.0
The name will probably make it a hard sell with some managers
altern8··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
I guess that's why houses are so expensive, now
altern8··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
Feels like you don't know how bad Poland had it in the past...
altern8··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
Not to be that guy, but I'm pretty sure that "Polish" is capitalized. "polish oil" is what I use on my leather shoes
altern8··on European industry is doing better than you may think
Ah, that makes sense
altern8··on European industry is doing better than you may think
WOW, the want you to pay for articles like these? It's just a handful of paragraphs
altern8··on Plan mode is dead
I use plan mode for anything that touches more than 2-3 files because I want to know what code will be added beforehand.

I guess people don't even look at code anymore

altern8··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
I agree with that, in Italy the telephone lines, highways and trains were privatized the same way, but that's just because politicians are corrupt and they were able to convince people that public companies had to make money like they were private and operating at a loss was bad.
altern8··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
Does it need to be profitable without subsidies? Governments run a lot of stuff at a loss as a service to citizens. For instance highways, trains, post offices etc.

I see
altern8··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
MAYBE, but the bar is so low... It's not that it's good in any way
altern8··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
I used Opus 5.5 today for the first time hoping the writing would be more bearable and it SUCKS.

Why can't they fix that

altern8··on The Download: why AI's latest breakthroughs and fears may be more hype than rea
It's just a marketing stunt. I can't get Claude to align buttons properly most of the times, they're not going to conquer the world
altern8··on Claude Opus 5.5
Yes, it's unbearable. Hopefully they've actuallu lly fixed it.
altern8··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
I don't know if the destruction of many industries in the EU--including manufacturing--can be called an annoyance.

All the EU bureaucrats can do is regulate, that's why it's so difficult to do business in the EU and that's why there is so little innovation over here. If Microsoft and Apple were started in the EU they would've been shut down within a week because you can't operate from a garage.

I guess that every once in a while this might have a positive outcome for consumers, a broken clock is right twice a day.

altern8··on Show HN: Sigabrt.dev – cronjob monitor with an SSH TUI
Because OP is trying to promote his project and get feedback, and you post about a competing product, to me the message is: don't look at the project OP wants you to check out, I've been using this instead and and it's amazing!

Who cares what you're using, I see show HN posts to be about OP's project, seems like a dick move to me to diverge attention to some other project. I just don't understand the motivation

altern8··on Show HN: Sigabrt.dev – cronjob monitor with an SSH TUI
I'll never understand commenting to show HNs with a link to competing products.
