amir··on A Lament for Aperture
Neither provides a DAM though. Photomator's asset management features are basically what Photos provides, which is far inferior to Aperture's DAM features. Many who miss Aperture aren't just lamenting the editing tools, they miss library organisation features that Photos simply doesn't offer.
amir··on Firefox 115 Now Available with Intel GPU Video Decoding on Linux
Official release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/115.0/releasenotes/

Also of note is that this is the last major version of Firefox for Windows 7 and Windows 8, as well as macOS 10.12, 10.13, and 10.14.

20 of the poster's last 30 submissions have been LWN subscriber links.

amir··on Ask HN: Have you ever switched cloud?
We did, a few times. Only because many of them had generous credits for early stage startups. GCP, Azure, SoftLayer (now IBM Cloud), DigitalOcean. We weren't relying on any particular service except managed Kubernetes, but we were happy to set it up overselves if it wasn't on offer.
amir··on Some tiny personal programs I've written
to disable retweets on Twitter you can add "RT @" to the list of muted words
amir··on What software engineers should know about search (2017)
Not sure who needs to know this but scribe.rip is a relatively new alternative reader for Medium. The original article is at: https://medium.com/startup-grind/what-every-software-enginee...

HN's special treatment of medium.com links doesn't apply to scribe ones.

amir··on Dislike button would improve Spotify's recommendations
One reason to keep on pushing bad content despite knowing the user will not watch them is to hide the fact how small their catalogue is and shift the blame onto user's particular taste.
amir··on A catalog of wealth-creation mechanisms (2009)
It's answered in the article:

    the answer to the question I posed above about what the U.S. traded to China in the 19th century is "fur"
amir··on How the CIA Staged Sham Academic Conferences to Thwart Iran’s Nuclear Program
I stopped reading after

> To show his sincerity and goodwill, the agent put his hand over his heart. “Salam habibi,” he said.

Either the reporter, or the CIA hasn't done their research. Habibi is Arabic, and that's not how Iranian greet each other, especially if they want to show sincerity and goodwill.

amir··on Safari Should Display Favicons in Its Tabs
Safari should also stop restoring private windows upon reopening.
amir··on JDateTime - Iranian (Shamsi) Date for PHP
You know you can do this:

    $idf = new IntlDateFormatter('fa_IR@calendar=persian',
        IntlDateFormatter::FULL,
        IntlDateFormatter::FULL,"Asia/Tehran",
        IntlDateFormatter::TRADITIONAL);
right?

PHP has a wrapper for ICU.

Interesting that most of them are detected in 1997 (4 out of 6 specific ones).
amir··on On Why I Am Not Buying RubyMotion
Although updates to the last SDK version in a timely manner is a valid concern, but does one really rebuild his application with a new major iOS version after a week of the release?
amir··on Why did Objective-C never catch on? (Ask Slashdot, Aug 2000)
Not an organic growth though.
