amlib··on Expanding our partnership with GSA to bring Claude to all levels of government
Funny thing is that it will just mess his whole message except for the "AI" lol
amlib··on Genie 4
Except that most technology was built in a way that didn't require all of the humanity knowledge and labor to be sequestered and then regurgitated back as slop that we need to pay as a subscription from what essentially is a rent seeking mafia.
amlib··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
It's not four consecutive terms, you are only allowed 2 consecutive terms.

That maybe you should take a deep breath and consider that your views have been clouded by a deeply corrupt bigot with ties to organized crime that has used the last decade to manipulate people into thinking he is "the savior" and "a true patriot" that will essentially make "Brazil great again" with a suck-ass motto "Deus, Pátria e Família" taken straight out of 1930s flavor of fascism while inciting the population into dividing themselves and constantly making ploys in order to take people's eyes away from him while he performs his wrongdoings with the means of every conceived vile strategy straight out of the same playbook Trump uses?

This is the Bolsonaro I know. I'm here to kindly ask you to free your mind from the shackles of his vile social network and see for yourself what he truly is, including seemingly innocuous "family" whatsapp groups and so on.

amlib··on OBS Studio 33
OBS should just do the maliciously compliant here and add the support but throw a little jab in the drop down menu by labeling it "Rumble - Fascists and lunatics only" or something like that.
amlib··on Disney Raising Prices Days After Confirming Ads Will Now Show Up on Every Tier
Please tell that to OpenAI & friends.
amlib··on Linus Torvalds's first LLM-assisted patch series
Clearly his analogy is about the usage of AI causing a downfall in the project itself. Maybe no one can understand the project anymore after thousands of AI commits. Maybe no one can contribute without having access to some fancy AI provider. Maybe the AI was using you, the developer, as a tool all along and the end game is for your project (and other FOSS projects) to be replicated under the tutelage of a few big corporations, making all FOSS projects irrelevant.
amlib··on Making big downloads resumable in Firefox
I would even say that we also lost that 90s Internet Explorer download dialog. Feels quite nostalgic whenever I see happen to see it...
amlib··on How I reverse engineered a commercial spatial audio effect
> I generally prefer no spatial processing, except in the case of 60s-style hard-panned stereo, which is intended for loudspeakers

Pretty much all audio is mixed for loudspeakers (in a room). It's fine if it is your preference but objectively the vast majority of music, film & etc sounds worse, or at least wrong with headphones. The main problem with these spatialization/binauralization techniques is that they are trying to model something that involves a deeply personal thing, the shape of your ears and head, and the way your brain interprets all that. They usually make these techniques with an average listener "head" in mind but if you are not lucky enough to fall in that average window the effect is likely sound bad or very fake.

amlib··on LineageOS 24
I bet soon most of the apps you can only get on a smartphones are gonna require some kind of attestation that is unlikely to be given to your laptop running an "unsanctioned" version of android.

Though it might have some use if you at least can run linux userland inside android, including a whole desktop session, without any performance degradation.

amlib··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
And why would China pace the frontier when it was the American accelerationist companies who created this mess? I remember scientists calling for an AI slow down way back in 2023 and they were all ridiculed and ignored by those very same companies. There is no way "Pacing the frontier" isn't just a ruse.
amlib··on Beauty in DVD Menus
Did you find the easter egg with the Elijah Wood prank interview? That's the kind of stuff modern media lacks.
amlib··on Picard 3.0
I've used it to successfully organize my messy library of (then) 50 thousands songs back in 2014. It's great if you can wrap your head around the weird ass workflow.

The plugins/extensions have also been proving quite useful, there are now quite a lot more available and useful ones. I've managed to incorporate some into my workflow.

In fact... this guy just made me coin a new term. Thanks.

amlib··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
>I think you can do this project of yours without being dismissive of the work (and the merits of the work) done by real people over years.

Specially when the LLMs he is using to make this software were 100% trained and likely heavily influenced by the software he is shitting on.

amlib··on 1996 chat room simulator connected to Win95 and System 7 web desktops
Vibe-coded or not what grinds my gears in those throwback computer interfaces is how imprecise they are. I the case of Windows, 9x had a meticulous pixel perfect alignment of widgets, great looking 2px thick bevel effects and all the proportions needed to be right for it feel "right". But almost all those throwback attempts, and specially now with AI coding, forget about this and seem to only go as far as thinking having a grey background with some tacky bevel is enough to recreate it.
amlib··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
This might sound heretic but maybe running mostly GNOME apps on a KDE desktop might be an interesting "best of both worlds" situation to investigate...

This issue happens to some extent within liunux distros too. I think specifically for youtube maybe it would be beneficial for a single core library that deals with the API and is shared by every single project that cares to interface with youtube. Rather than dozens of projects trying to chase youtube changes and overburdening repository maintainers, there would only be a single library whose updates would be fast tracked. This also requires there to be no embedding it in anything too, I don't know how feasible this would be on android/f-droid, but it kinda already happens with yt-dlp in linux distros, but yt-dlp isn't a proper library nor does it deals with all youtube endpoints that a proper youtube frontend would require.

It would perhaps be nice if yt-dlp could eject it's youtube api handling into it's own project that is then augmented to handle anything youtube related and turns into THE library for dealing with youtube.. maybe even call it libyt :)

amlib··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
Consumers are way too fickle to pursue open models en masse. Even if they are 90% as good and fairly easy to use (works acceptably on most machines, easy installation, whatever), they will still go for the ones controlled by big corportions/big tech.

Look at how consumers deal with free, open source software, alternate Operating Systems, alternate social networks, alternate search engines, alternate chat protocols... even when the barriers are low they just don't give a damn. I honestly think most people would choose to join the Borg out of sheer convenience. It's futile to think this won't happen with AI.

amlib··on OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents
It's already been so much worse, they are digital billboards most of the time presented as genuine organic content, like you and me posting in this platform. That alone has already changed the course of history, persuaded people by changing their views and made then more reactionary than ever. Whole elections were decided on this stuff. I can't begin to imagine the manipulative powers manipulative AI chatbot responses will bring.
amlib··on Fuck it, make it anyway
Hard to do when adapting/innovating means essentially joining the Borg. People have a million analogies to what is happening with AI right now but they often fail to see how unprecedented it is. Is history really just repeating? Are we in a cycle? Or is this just a paperclip optimizer?
amlib··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
An LLM is just in fact just autocompleting a story. There are many fictional stories about "AIs" trying to escape our control, being more clever than we anticipated or having a consciousness of it's own. LLMs do a really nice job of blending such stories with whatever story you initially prompted them with. The human reader is the one giving it credence that it is somehow more than just a soup of words.

The curious thing here is that a story generator can have way more uses than we ever anticipated, and that some shady enterprising individuals are whiling to plug those story generators into real world things, with real consequences.

amlib··on Windows 11's "special" developer edition looks like another marketing misfire
Maybe the main feature they are not telling anyone is that it slurps your valuable code bases faster in order to feed their AI? I guess usurping github ain't enough.

amlib··on 120 days until Google restricts side-loading, declaring war on Android freedom
Except there were websites requiring you to install ActiveX and proprietary plugins to do anything meaningful as soon as 1995? Also banks requiring proprietary security modules to access your account, they were pretty ubiquitous in the early 2000s where I lived.

The difference now is that accessing services through the internet is a necessity rather than a luxury. I guess passing laws could fix this, but it's exceptionally hard to get anything done through the barrage of big tech lobbying.

amlib··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B

A few years ago everyone said _Open_AI is the the most open labs. How did that turn out? Lots of coy, deceiving actions till the whole company was turned into whatever rent seeking amoral borg adjacent shell of it's former past it is now.
